@RollOnToVictory Yeah...actually all the lame and pointless sequels that were direct to video were ones created by DisneyToon studios...but yeah there should be a law saying that only Walt Disney Animation Studios should do their own sequels and only if the found it necessary...or an amendment either way. 8)
@WorgenWOWlife Its natural for your eyes to tear up at insane wind speeds like that. Which is why Skydivers generally wear eye protection. The more you know. Also an example of the move makers to have shown their work.
I hadn't seen this movie since I was a little girl! My grandmother recorded it on VHS for me and I watched it all the time! Until my brother decided to use it to record stuff. I went to FYE just last week and found the Gold Collection edition! Watching it brought back sooooo many fond memories <3 I still love Bianca so much!
Sorry but this film was stupid. Golden eagles do not exist in Australia, and they don't have a 30 foot wingspan. And it's funny how the kid had an American accent. Americans love to have everything from 'outside' all fantasized and packaged to them in a way that they can understand it better.
@drazen86 Yeah because Australia has such a rich history of making animated films. Until then I hope a dingo doesn't eat your baby. (It's all in good fun)
This movie has a lot of nostalgic value for me, but it's also the reason I was sorely disappointed when I saw my first real eagle in a zoo. I was expecting it to be that huge xD
While its sad that movies like Great Mouse Detective and Rescuer's Down Under are relatively obscure compared to the other Disney films, at least obscurity prevented the creation of crappy sequels based off these classics.
This is one of the all-time great movie scenes. A majestic and breathtaking opening to a great adventure. When I saw this on the big screen as a six year old I had goosepimples from head to toe. The sight of that giant eagle and that boy astride her flying over these vistas and through wisping clouds and then that steep waterfall... oh just amazing.
Nostalgia Critic wasn't kiddin' when he said this movie was WAAAAY, WAY, WAY (not enough "ways" memorized") UNDER RATED. I mean, this scene is just killer! So epic and awesome!
This is the scene I like to show to anime fanboys who complain about lack luster american animation. The truth is, there is more magic and better animation in this one scene than in any single Hayao Miyazaki film ever made. That's a fact.
@laserwolf65 As much as I can appreciate your admiration for this wonderful scene I have to disagree. Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Kiki's Delivery Service are all magical experiences and contain loads of cinema dazzle in every frame. You're doing a disservice to a master filmmaker.
@cartoonkingforeever Oh, I wasn't talking about animation quality. I was talking about basic storytelling and character development. Miyazaki is a master when it comes to crafting beautiful stories. As much as I love the animation style in The Rescuers Down Under, the story is very routine.
@RedBandMagic02 i think the storyline was very well developed and the characters too ,Miyazaki is a great storyteller but there's something about disney classic animation that makes me love it more than Miyazaki movies
@CeruleanFilms The animation team talked in interviews about Miyazaki's work being a major inspiration behind the film, and in particular, this scene.
this movie is the best. this scene specifically always filled me with awe when i was a kid. i thought forever that golden eagles were giant like that haha. but anyways, great movie, great scene, awesome music.
That's only true for small birds, birds of prey will fly off (if they can) with there kills. Normal golden eagles can take something about 8lbs, now this bird is MUCH bigger. There was a giant prehistoric eagle called the Hasst, it was about the same size as the eagle in the film; they could easily fly off with a human. However those birds were more likely to eat humans than take them on a fun filled ride, but that wouldn't really be very Disney.
This scene manages to be both epic and beautiful. It truly captures the simulation of flight and the music is just amazing!!!! Thank you very much for posting this!!! This is definitely my favorite scene from the movie.
@LastEarthBender it wasn't a subliminal message, just a part in the background. they didn't realize the impact video was going to have causing people to re watch over and over until they caught it. and Nudity is not perverted.
When I was little and to this day this part is my favorite! I wanted a bird like that to ride. I especially love the shot with it flying with all the smaller birds. <3
@Guyverman01 What about Pixar? They are Awesome! But they didn't become well known until 5 years later , Toy Story. They had been around since 1986 , but only with shorts like ``Tin Toy'' , & ``The Adventures of Wally B.'' and little moments in ``Oliver and Company'' e.g. the Syke's car , and ``The Little Mermaid'' Ariel running down the staircase. This film has great memories , i remember being 3 years old on our black leather sofa at our apartment watching this film in my pajamas.
@Retrofanatic10 I HAD a black leather sofa tooo ! ! ! ! ! And I was watching Lion King, Toy Story and The Rescuers on it when I was like 8, in the room where we had also piano and the first PC. Today I'm in collage in a different city, and this room is out of use. Mom puts there various stuff that she doesn't need anymore, and the room stays dark and forgotten.... And I went through so many adventures of Disney's films in this room when I was a child... I miss my childhood badly...
@familyguyfangirl Kill you? I could KISS you for saying that! Figuratively of course. Note that this, a sequel, is INFINITELY better than most of the stuff Disney keeps giving us these days. :/ Of course, this was one of those rare sequels that nearly equaled its original. <3 Brilliant film, still an inspiration in my life.
I loved this movie to death as a child, but I remember how weird it was that you don't even see the rescuers until about half an hour into the movie, lol.
2:24 is the most beautiful scene in all disney movies, period. Well, that and the Nala and Simba scene when 'Can you feel the love tonight?' is playing :D
i like how unrealistic this is. i enjoyed this movie as a kid but now that i see it all i think about is how that eagle would probably have just eaten the kid after he set him free.
@mrpickles478 I know, huh? Not only is there a giant golden eagle that would likely eat the kid, but also animals that talk and sometimes socially interact with humans! All this surrealism... what gives??
That eagle joins the ranks of "endangered species" in films; a very majestic one if I do say so myself. Lots of great shots that are very engaging so far. A very 4 star scene right here; a break from the plot but very entertaining & exciting.

I remember thinking that all eagles were that size. My mom says that when I was little, I used to ask why all the eagles we ever saw were baby eagles, because none of the eagles were that HUGE.

Still, this movie was, and still is today, the best sequel Disney ever made. <3 I always loved Joanna the creepy and demented lizard thingy McLeach had.
Ooooh, I haven't seen this movie for so many years! I think it was one of my first Disney movies, haven't ever seen the first one either. The scene is beautiful; I always loved Marahute. Thanks for posting!

I'd be scared shitless if that happened to me.
Still, this movie was, and still is today, the best sequel Disney ever made. <3 I always loved Joanna the creepy and demented lizard thingy McLeach had.

One of the most epic sequences ever. Every shot is simply amazing and you can just feel the weight in the animation. It's kind of breathtaking.

What Happened!?
Did Palbucks get suspended or something and his videos remove because i can't find him or the "Scene From Rescuers Down Under". Thank god you've put this up on here. Nevertheless, i'm going to download it while i still can.
It'll also go in my favourites.
