  • lol At one time when i was young my dad and I spotted roughly 8 funnels/tornadoes in and around great bend during a storm. My Dad is a licensed weather watcher. It was so cool! I lived in a mobile park and the landlords refused to open the shelter, so while the rest of the family stayed inside, we hung outside. lol

  • I remember that day. We was eating pizza at Pizza Hut and suddenly these loud sirens come on. We had to stay in the bathroom there for 2 hours. But I lost my first tooth during a tornado in Pizza Hut! How cooler can it get?

  • at 2:50 or so, it looks like it was dropping on top of CKMC. I think the St. Joseph campus was being remodeled at the time.

  • i love living in good ole GBK!

  • me and my frined were in great bend when that happend but we dont live in great bend

  • at 1:45 FS 2001 goes off

  • I was also heading to Wal-Mart when this storm got serious. I got to to parking lot and had an open view of the rotation. It was beautifuland terrifying.

  • I still don't understand why local governments can't have an arsonal of subnuclear missiles to fire into these things to break them up.

  • Yikes! That looks like was the western part of Great Bend. My God... that tornado formed almost right on top of you!

I grew up in GB. I recognize Stueder's AC and Plumbing at 2:00. And I see 10th Street is messed up as usual.

  • Yeah my birthday!!!!

  • hehe my b day too

  • Particularly impressive images around 1:00 and 1:50 to 2. The storm seemed to have gotten a bit "messy" with low clouds toward the end, but your presentation wasn't . Very crisp, clear images, by the way. Thanks for the "experience."

  • My birthdayy!

  • I Went Their For Vacation like 4 Days Before That o_o' wow...

  • Why would you vacation here?

  • oh wait, OPPS! This is KS.

XD i Went to the Grend Bed in Ontario

  • @nicky2800 I know I live in GB and that is an unsolved mystery to this town....

  • @nicky2800 The thunder storms... if you are like me you would understand xD

  • I was in Great end that nightstanding in the walm-art parking lot and watched the whole storm happen,It was pretty wild.

  • sirens and storms don't they go great together

    p.s. the siren sounds like a 2001

  • sure is, and I'm pretty sure you can see it from around 1:09 to 1:18

  • All i have to say is that Great Bend needs more watch when it comes to weatther. On the news they were saying that the sirens shouldnt of be going off in Great Bend that it was an accident ...when it comes to peoples life, i dont think they should allow accidents like that to happen...some people are getting paid to do this and they dont do there jobs right!! Thank God that somebody was paying attention when the tornadoe hit Greensburg, otherwise it would have been more of a disaster!

  • no the people of great bend were mad they didnt go off sooner i live there my neices house was damaged in this one

  • i was outside my house when dis happen by 23st and monroe

  • Don't really think there was an actual tornado touchdown in the City of Great Bend. If there was even for 10 or so seconds, the damage would be very extensive. But I do think the NWS was slow on getting warnings issued regardless. I was watching the storm on radar up to 30 minutes before it hit Barton County, and it was indicating minor rotation at that time even.

  • damn kansas has the most hardcore tornados. i'm glad i don't live there.lol

  • @bigstabby We're used to it more or less, but still scares me every time. lol

  • It was there....trust me. Don't believe that the tornado actually touched down in GB? Drive by Holy Family School...a teacher was inside the school when it hit; her husband and 2 kids running for cover from the car in the parking lot. Some of the family members had minor injuries. Doors blew out of the school. A tree was sucked up out of the ground. Fence around the playground was mangled. Yes, it was a minor tornado, but it was definitely NOT just a wall cloud. Our cleanup crew knows otherwise.

  • Towards the end of this video when they talk about seeing debris...that was Holy Family School. Their camera was pointed in the exact direction of the school....they really weren't far from it. And the light being red ("are you freaking kidding me?")...that's classic GB road construction on 10th. Long lights, one lane. It's a mess. Chasers being stuck in traffic...not fun.

  • in the last few minutes what is the guy say in the are you freaking kidding me

  • What the hell, I was on 10th and all I could see was rain. And not rain, ONLY rain. Thought it was rainwrapped???

What time was this, I must have been just a few minutes late.

  • o thank god, looks like taco bell and wendys were saved

  • lol

  • i didn't think of that. thanks for the info!

  • I couldn't help but notice the tour of food places. Pizza Hut, Burger King, Sonic, Papa Murphy's, Taco Bell, Wendy's, and Arby's. Made me even more hungry.

  • lol.!!!

  • They should have some system in place where they don't have to worry about the motors burning up. Something more advanced. Peoples lives are at stake.

  • Those motors have a 15 minute duty cycle, that is more than enouugh time to warn people.

Besides the average siren timer is set to run for three minutes unless someone keeps reactivating it.

  • The Tae Kwon Do kicks should work well :)

  • Or it will send you flying 3 football fields to your death... just sayin.

  • Hey, It was should posed to be a joke and you killed it man. Damn it, I don't think your the type I would party with because you take things too seriously. Thanks for ruining it. The next joke I make, I'll make sure to let you know next time.

  • Thanks nerd, You ruined my joke. Damn it, thats twiced already. I can't party with geeks because they fuck everything up. Go back with your robot building and I'll make sure not to say jokes again.

  • You say I'm so serious, yet you can't view other peoples comments as jokes either? That was kinda what I was intending to get at, but I guess you think you know everything right?

  • No, I don't know everyting. I'm just like anyone else. If I knew everything I would have the congress kiss my ass..

  • I juz like tornadoes :)

  • Woah! Amazing... yet scary. I am scared of tornadoes, yet extremely fascinated! :))

  • there is a tornado every day

  • I did'nt see it

  • I don't care how many times I hear it but that siren just creeps me out and gives me goosebumps of the wrong kind.

Imagine the shock of some of those people in town!

I'm surprised the sirens didn't go off sooner.

  • It's not surprising they didn't go off sooner. They don't sound before a tornado happens. Defeating the purpose of a storm warning system is not the best way to utliize said system.

  • Yes.. But in this case it was pretty obvious to the naked eyes of the town and us that the sky didn't look right and was spinning coupled with strange looking clouds and sky.

Sometimes mother nature is quicker then the storm sirens and she can trick them sometimes. That town had a pretty good view of what was going on and it looked like the witnesses were in the thousands.

  • I see what you're attempting to say. However, NWS procedure generally being what it is, witnesses in whatever number don't have an effect, truly.

  • Well dispatch was late setting them off, BCSO Dep. Reed reported it soon enough. It was thrown around before they set them off.

  • I'm scared to death of tornadoes, but they are so interesting. I wouldn't mind being a storm chaser lol

  • Woah! This happened on my birthday! We had thunderstorms too.

  • WOW...scary stuff man

  • nicee

  • Damn. That siren got me thinking of Silent Hill and that looming dark cloud threatening to turn into a tornado. Now that is scary.

  • That siren should have been sounded long before it had been. By the time it went off, the tornado was already there.

  • they could have already sounded them....some sirens need a few minutes to keep from burning the motors up

  • Well that's dumb, peoples lives are at stake so they need to make sure that the sirens are sounding until it's safe.

  • well actually, the sirens don't all go off at once. they have them coordinated, so it doesn't rip out the town power grid. a lot of power has to go into those sirens. the ones that sound in the video are most likely the last to be let off. usually, they can get the first round of sirens going off within five minutes of knowing the storm is coming within range. just speaking from years of experience...

  • I 100% understand what you are saying, and that its the way it is, I just think that It could and should be better. Hopefully it will be in the future.

  • serpentisma your wrong its a county by county system every siren in the whole county gos off together trust mje

  • Exactly!! Besides, by the time I got out of Great Bend to head to my other home, Barton County still wasn't on the list of Tornado Warnings! As a matter of fact, The National Weather Service that night stated that it "Must be a mistake there is no indication of rotation within the vicinity of Great Bend." Truth is, you don't know, unless you're there. the fact that they caught this much on tape, oughta be enough evidence that the weather was bad enough, that it created tree topping funnels.

  • look liek a cloud of Death so sweet Epci

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Awesome Job!

  • shit!!!!

  • all i saw was clouds

  • Daaaayyyuuuum

  • OMG

  • wow
