God I wish I was alive at that time and part of the scene. I devoured the books and movie and the Shocumentary (which used to be on youtube) I am just enthralled by the lifestyle and the people. I wish it was still around today. Can you find Mavis video or pictures anywhere?

The mythology is better than the actuality. Most of these 'club kids' lived marginal lives during the week working as waiters, burger slingers, janitors, etc and sought refuge from their boring weekly lives at the clubs. I worked with a bunch of these "kids". 90% were male homosexuals who suffered from very low self esteem and were desperate for attention and recognition. Dressing up and going to clubs was the only way they could get it. The whole scene was very shallow and pointless

I'm taking that as sarcasm. I'm not condemning the lifestyle. In fact, I'm all for flouting conventions and the pretense of so-called normal ppl. The lame thing about the club kids, however, was that they wound up resembling the very people whom they originally claimed to despise. The whole scene devolved into a greed driven struggle for popularity/"fabulous". A once creative group of people who welcomed outcasts and authentic individuality grew into a petty and intolerant cult/clique .

Definatly the late 80's Micheal's gear was pretty extravagant by 1992, we were all in the thick of it by 92, platform addidas and all, and look at Lady Bunny definatly the late 80's, I knew these people. Freeze wasn't in the scene til 1994.
