  • pieces are very very big. They shuld be small like 1x1 cm. Better tо make with sausages and tо put mоre gerkins (they make taste). Well , sоme families dislike carrоt here...sоme put fresh cucumber instead оf gerkins. This salad is alsо called "winter salad" and tо make it fоr new year eve is a traditiоn. It is very very filling and lоt оf calоries, gооd fоr winter energy deficit

  • Aw... another horrible thing which they call Russian salad. Listen to me: it's NOT Russian salad. Absolutely not.

  • @Stepanova2000 Right. beans are nоt sо pоpular in russian kitchen. where are eggs, gerkins, meat !?

  • i like his smile

  • it cd be good, but pieces are too big.

  • phataetoes... LOL.. love this guy

  • @someone8323 hahah, lol'd IRL

  • OMG, THIS IS VERY BAD, AND VERY EMBRASS!!

  • These days people just use their imagination when making potatoe salads. But I know that russians dice their potatoes and whatever they put in it, they dress it in mayo. I tend to put anything that may taste good to the taste buds in mine. As long as it has taste and looks appetising.

  • OUTCOME OF YEARS OF INDO-RUSSIAN FRIENDSHIP & ALL THOSE SUKHOIs

  • This is not Russian salad, ve dont like it. Variation from Olivie .

  • This is not a Russian salad, this no salad for that matter at all. This is total BS!

  • vahchef6´,haben sie echte"Russian salad"schon ein mahl probiren? ;-))

  • В России не было зелёной фасоли в салате никогда!!! Фальш!!!

Unappetitlich!!!! Falsch!!! CREAM AND MAYO?!!!!! Es ist schlecht!!!

  • the REAL russian salad has diced ham in it and really onions ?

  • THIS IS NOT A RUSSIAN SALAD; CALLED OLIVIE! This is some sort of potato salad...Beans?! Gimme a break! CREAM AND MAYO?!!!!!

  • COMMUNIST SALAD!

  • i love this guy especially his cheerful disposition.thanks for the post

  • It's not russian, it's something else.

  • that's 1 way to make it but the real way is like this ( boiled potatoes, boiled carrots, russian baloney, dill pickles boiled eggs, peas, corn and union) the sause it just plain mayo.......there are lots of diffret way's but this one is the traditional way my family has been using this recipe forever and all the food has to be chopped about 2 times smaller than in this video!!!!!! plzzz don't hate on me I'm just sharing another recipe :)

  • good but i think adding grapes, apples and pomegranate(If u wish ) to make it more authentic i guess..any Russians check me if i am wrong...

  • @zairt you could, but the the traditional recipe doesn't have any fruits, it does sound good though I might try it with apples

  • he is just too good :)

  • This salad is very popular in Poland.

We adding boiled eggs, apple, corn as well.

Also we chopping all vegetables on much small parts.

  • @m0niah yes my girlfriend made this shes from poland and the nice taste of the apples in it was really good

  • What type of cream are you using? Also, the green vegetables should be just blanched for a crispy snap! I'm not sure about fully boiling these vegetables for a cold salad?

  • vah reh vah !!!

  • i add apple also

  • For over 60 years I know this recipe, with this name and with same ingredients. From the

    world with tenderness.

  • you now, it said that nobody can make the original Russian salad, we call it Olivie, the man who first made it was a Frenchman, and unfortunately nobody can restore the original recipe. But we usually make this salad with boiled potatoes, boiled eggs, pickled cucumbers, tinned green peas, and you can choose the meat just to your taste;) chicken, beef, ham or even sausage. and all this traditionally dressed with mayo. You should taste it, it's delicious :)

  • @Ymkasan Do you have the recipe do you know how we made salianka salad ? I'm interested.I became russian cook mania !

  • Never heard of a Alivea salad but there is an Olivier salad named after a Moscow chef who ran a very popular restaurant called the hermitage in the 19th century.

Mayo based potato salad with meat and a lot of stuff. I made a few different versions and it is wonderful.

  • ALIVEA is the real salad he's attempting to make... is this the twisted indian version?

  • As a Russian, I can say that this salad has absolutely nothing to do with Russian cuisine!

  • lol you are right i live in russia but have never seen any salad like this......i suppose this is found only in indian hotels....

  • Maybe its no longer made in russia. He he he.

  • My mom uses sour cream and mayo for the dressing. For the salad itself, its boilded potatoes, some diced pieces of chicken/ham, eggs, pickled or fresh cucumbers, peas. Salt and pepper. Pretty simple yet super filling.

  • It's not Russian Salad! :(((

    From Russia with love. Mikhail.

  • please could you send the link for another recipe !

  • i like pineapple in it!thanks

  • do you have these recipes in text somewhere?

  • Show us how to make the tomatoe rose please vahchefe.

  • Can u tell me where can we get cream? i tried hard searching at Fremont here

  • You can usually find it in the dairy section in US supermarkets. I've heard that some people make it with sour cream too, so you might try that.

  • @CosmoMemory91

What type of cream is Sanjay using?

  • Most likely Heavy Cream, also called whipping cream, that's what used at the restaurant where I work to make salad dressing.

  • Just to remind everybody, the purpose of these videos are to 'inspire others to cook'. Not to inspire others to copy a recipe to a tee and never try any variations of their own. That's the whole fun in cooking. Mess around with the recipe, make mistakes and try it again. You'll end up coming up with something a whole lot different in time. There's my two cents worth.

  • @Gindelbi

Yes experimenting is fun.. just a side note though.. when using meat, remember to thaw it out properly!! Otherwise you can get food poisoning.. And I'm not talking about russian salad just cooking in general! :)

  • forget the lemon dressing. replace it with hard boiled egg slices, vahchef.

  • yes chef I second that, lease show us how to make the tomato rose please

  • You're forgetting boiled egg and they don't use green beans in it, but red beats. Also, u can add some boiled and shredded beaf. but it definitely needs boiled egg.

  • Yes, I agree :)

Same for German salad... and also for that the onion is boiled in a little water, not to be so harsh/fresh and overpower the salad but just 'mingle' with the flavor, which might include - in the boiling - a bit of pickle water and diced pickles added in the end to taste. We don't just take boiled potatoes and mix it with cooked bits of veggies... so cute to see this good chef do that. Also, the potatoes have to be thinly sliced. :) +Mayo only: No beets for us, no beef. :)

  • PS, it is the boiled egg that makes it altogether a full meal... But also, it is all up to each country's inhabitants and after that individual too... I did not mean to be critical in any way... hope I did not come across that way... I just meant to inform to whoever wants to know... I am originally from - haha - potato-recipes-loving-land Germany :) - your channel is very interesting, I love the exotic type recipes.

  • Oh, yeah pickles are a must too! Forgot about that :)

  • dear chef,

why is your mayonnaise light brown colour?

  • It's probably home made.

  • we have this with apples, mixed vegetables n mayounaise...ooh its heavenly with the apples!!!

  • it is customery to add some mustard to the mayonaise, and some dill too.

diced pickled cucumbers are very popular as well.

  • French Toast is also left over bread with eggs on it. So why is it called 'French' toast? I guess that's why its called Russian Salad LOL

  • Why is this called Russian salad? Over here we just would call that leftover vegetables with mayonnaise.

  • This comment is so worth a good giggle! :)

  • chef, can you show how to make that rose?

  • its there on his website.

  • watch?v=_AcwtD9MdCU

  • he already did in an old video...
