this match really amazing,,,i can't forget that fall...2005....that fall my sweet kim and roger all are the champions!!!!amazing match!i miss elena!lol
luv lindsay groundstrokes wonder what she says at 2:14 ..... im gana go with "good shot elena" 2005 cuda been her year....plz tell me linds ddn hav match point at 12:41 fred stolle is an awseome commentator the other one is dumb hack
I know Davenport is the purest striker of the ball men or women of the modern game. Safin and Nalbandian come a distant second, and of course Agassi could see and hit the ball earlier.
@awesomekidddo I did watch Highlights or her match against Sharapova and watched most of her quarterfinal match at Wimby. She's superbly talented and has a phenomenal serve, and great groundies, and her net game is very promising. I love her commitment of coming into the net as well. Nonetheless, she's not that a natural ball striker like Lindsay, even this match in 2005 isn't quite Davenport at her best ball striking display. Perhaps you have not watched Davenport at her best.
Whats that question about? Hitting with ease does not make you a ball striker. Roger is the modern player that probably hits with the most ease, but does that make him a ball striker? Don't think so, he like Kvitova, Henin and the likes who are able to generate amazing racket head speed are shot makers. By the way yes I watch and play tennis and probably for much longer than you have.
Okay we obviously use different tennis dictionaries, my definition of ball striker is a player that strikes a clean ball time and time again from all parts of the court. Examples, Agassi, Nalbandian, Safin (but he's a shot maker as well), Davenport and Seles however Seles is a peculiar ball striker.
What makes you so knowledgeable? Are you a USTA coach? Tennis coach? 5.0 or higher level player? I never said I was an expert, I was simply stating a known fact, Davenport is a pure ball striker, ask any follower of the game and they will not disagree. By the way if Kvitova were such a great ball striker why is she not doing so well during the US olympus series?
See there is where your theory completely shatters, a great ball striker does not need to have perfect rhythm all the time or much rhythm, that's what makes them ball strikers, their clean ball striking ability overcomes off days and lack of rhythm. Something which as talented and a great player Kvitova does not possess. I've been watching tennis since 1989, and following the game since '87.
Never seen Davenport in so difficulties in rallies,except her 2005 Wimbledon final against Venus ( one of the best matches GC final in this last year) Dementieva was amazing in that match and I miss her sooo much!!
Absolutely true, i wasn't really stating opinion. Look at the radar gun and power index stat the WTA tour keeps. Elena's backhand isn't as strong as Venus or Maria but her forehand is statistically the fastest shot in women's tennis behind Serena's forehand. One of her US Open matches it was clocked in at 94mph, that's harder then some men.
When Lindsay lays into a ball she is the most powerful player in the history of women's tennis. She's just ALL offense, NO defense. But Elena is excellent equally on offense and defense. And people don't realize how hard she hits the ball. She's harder than Maria and Venus and just short of Serena and Lindsay... Plus she has sensational movement and defense!
@iloveakeys01 not really true. Elena can hit hard, but that's because she was great at absorbing the opponent's power and return it with interest, rather than create her own pace like for example, Davenport. She was indeed so good defensively but she couldnt hit harder than Venus or Maria, they are still out of her league. I think she could've won a slam, had her serve been better and had she been mentally stronger
@Iadyjaja Exactly,when you watch her strokes,you said to yourself that tennis is easy but not,i think the other ones who can hit nearly at her is roger federer and david nalbandian.

@luirot9 Kvitova is better.

@awesomekidddo
Better ball striker than Davenport? Not in 20 years. She's a great player, with amazing talent, but no where near the ball striker that Davenport is.

@luirot9 Clearly you haven't seen Kvitova play lately.

@luirot9 Furthermore, in my opinion Kvitova is more of shot maker than a natural ball striker.

@luirot9 I'm sorry but do you watch tennis? Kvitova hits the ball with such ease...she was hitting winners against Maria unintentionally.

@luirot9 I watch a lot of tennis okay? Do you watch any? To be a great ball striker you need rhythm and Kvitova is lacking that right now.
