The only thing that makes this scene work is Christopher Lee. He's loving hamming it up so much that it's hilarious. But this is the most boring lightsaber duel ever. It makes the Death Star duel between old Ben and Vader look like a epic battle. While that duel was rich in substance, this felt what it was: a 35-year-old man banging sticks with an 80-year old man, and losing pathetically.
@themanclaw2 That's what I liked most about him; it seems like all Sith HAVE to look so evil, gross, or monsterous. Dooku is terrifying not because of the way he looks, but by the fact he looks like a frail old man, but whoops ass like someone years his minor.

It has a lot to do with the fact he's kind of fat (he has a double chin), how he dresses and his haircut. It's overall just too silly for a sith to sport that as well as sith/jedi sith are supposedto be physically healthy. Christopher Lee also played Sarumon. I would take him seriously if he dressed and wore his hair like sarumon, but maybe with a grey robe instead of white.

Obi-Wan lost couse Doku fight using Makashi technique which is the best in dueling but useless against blasters. Doku was almost untouchable during duels. I think only Macu Windu had change of Dooku.
I've read that he didn't advance enough in Palpatine's Sith training before he got in the duel with Obi-Wan on Mustafa. Even as the Darth Vader we all know, he would never be able to cast Sith Lightning because of the robotic bodyparts.
I honestly don't know why Lucas made Dooku this impossibly good duelist. Maul or Grievous could have (and basically did) filled that role. This is CHRISTOPHER LEE we're talking about. Just watch the latter portion, where Lee is illuminated only by the crimson blade of his saber. Evocative imagery. He could've rivaled Vader throughout the prequels had he been given more substance and presence, and fewer stunts and a digital doubles.

i always wondered why the lightsabers came in different styles and colors...like each jedi/sith has their own unique lightsaber. obviously red is the sith color but can anyone explain why they all look different?
@Chaldo1000 well, each jedi makes their own sabre, so its personal preference. Also they have different features such as weights, grips, adjusters for the intensity of the blade, eg u could make the sword nonlethal for training purposes. ontop of this different styles could fit different fighting techniques, eg Count Dooku was known (according to the books) to use a stype similar to fencing and presumably the curved handle helped with this in some way

Darth Maul is no march for Count Dooku sins Maul had trouble dealing with two Jedi and Dooku toyed with two Jedi and still had time to duel Yoda. It's clear that Maul wouldn't defeat ATOC Obi-Wan since he had trouble with him when he was a Padawan and Dooku pwned him without trying, even in ROTS when Obi-Wan was a Jedi Master.
@Rodan16 it has some amazing scenes, but christensen's incredibly poor acting just has it hanging on the bottom of the SW franchise for me. The whole anakin/padmé thing was so poorly acted that I have no words for it. It was a shame since the arena battle was definitely a highlight :/
@michelrpg I was about 11 when this film came out and saw it many times in the theaters, mainly because Portman was hot as hell and the lightsaber scenes were awesome, especially with Yoda. Seeing that in the theater was one of my top 10 experiences. Especially since this movie was in fact the first shot with a digital camera. As I watch it now, yes the acting does have flaws but I think the actors did fine with what they were presented by Lucas :)
@PadmeandtheWookiee if someone cuts off your arm your in shock or even unconcios and you dont feels the pain. If ur muscles get cut like that it hurts like hell. So yes I'd say Obi wan was in bigger pain at the time.
In the "last" part of Star Wars the imperator used these flashes as something special, it was a special weapon, but in this movie, it's just a simple trick which everybody can use.
The Jedis can even stop them with their lightswords or their hands, it nonsence because Luke must have done too, when the imperator attacked him with them!
Sure Luke could have. If he hadn't thrown his lightsaber away before hand. How was he to know about Force Lightning and that Palpatine was going to use it on him, eh? And only Sith and Dark Jedi use Force Lightning and only Dooku and Palpatine use it in the movies. It doesn't ruin anything, because it doesn't contradict anything.
No, you don't understand, and the fact that you decided to give me that lame ass line only proves how little you understand about the Force. Force Lightning was never a special weapon. It was simply one of the powers that Palpatine had at his disposal because he was powerful in the Dark side of the Force. And the EU took care of any "special" element about it long before this movie did.

here is the interesting thing. Dooku, who has far less power in his Electric Bolts, pretty well knocked Anakin out cold.
Luke on the other hand, took the full brunt of Darth Sidious and his Electric Bolts that were blinding because they were so powerful.
Luke, took a lot of it. But then quickly got up to check on his Father after his Father killed the Emperor.

i always wondered why the lightsabers came in different styles and colors...like each jedi/sith has their own unique lightsaber. obviously red is the sith color but can anyone explain why they all look different?

@Chaldo1000 well, each jedi makes their own sabre, so its personal preference. Also they have different features such as weights, grips, adjusters for the intensity of the blade, eg u could make the sword nonlethal for training purposes. ontop of this different styles could fit different fighting techniques, eg Count Dooku was known (according to the books) to use a stype similar to fencing and presumably the curved handle helped with this in some way

Jedi Guardians-Blue and focused on lightsaber combat
Jedi Consulars-Green and focused more on the force power
Jedi Sentinels-Yellow and focused on other skills
from Knights of the Old Republic.

@Josh0473 ture but lightsabre duel is a win in my book. Plus we had 1 half decent duel in this movie along with a medicore 1 so we cud have like 4 good-friggin awsome duels in the next movie

Darth Maul is no march for Count Dooku sins Maul had trouble dealing with two Jedi and Dooku toyed with two Jedi and still had time to duel Yoda. It's clear that Maul wouldn't defeat ATOC Obi-Wan since he had trouble with him when he was a Padawan and Dooku pwned him without trying, even in ROTS when Obi-Wan was a Jedi Master.

@Rodan16 it has some amazing scenes, but christensen's incredibly poor acting just has it hanging on the bottom of the SW franchise for me. The whole anakin/padmé thing was so poorly acted that I have no words for it. It was a shame since the arena battle was definitely a highlight :/

@michelrpg I was about 11 when this film came out and saw it many times in the theaters, mainly because Portman was hot as hell and the lightsaber scenes were awesome, especially with Yoda. Seeing that in the theater was one of my top 10 experiences. Especially since this movie was in fact the first shot with a digital camera. As I watch it now, yes the acting does have flaws but I think the actors did fine with what they were presented by Lucas :)

The battle ruins the other movies before.
In the "last" part of Star Wars the imperator used these flashes as something special, it was a special weapon, but in this movie, it's just a simple trick which everybody can use.
The Jedis can even stop them with their lightswords or their hands, it nonsence because Luke must have done too, when the imperator attacked him with them!

English is not my mother tongue, of course I have mistakes in my grammar.
In german we call this lightsabers also lightswords, I forget that it's only a german word, so I wrote "lightsword".
Of course I saw the film, everybody did. You are right "imperator" was wrong, it's emperor, the emperor used these flashes as something special.

Sure Luke could have. If he hadn't thrown his lightsaber away before hand. How was he to know about Force Lightning and that Palpatine was going to use it on him, eh? And only Sith and Dark Jedi use Force Lightning and only Dooku and Palpatine use it in the movies. It doesn't ruin anything, because it doesn't contradict anything.

No, you don't understand, and the fact that you decided to give me that lame ass line only proves how little you understand about the Force. Force Lightning was never a special weapon. It was simply one of the powers that Palpatine had at his disposal because he was powerful in the Dark side of the Force. And the EU took care of any "special" element about it long before this movie did.
If you didn't want to discuss you shouldn't have brought it up.

This always bugs me: why, at 1:27, is the sound of the saber igniting out-of-sync with the visual? Seriously, it's Star Wars. The guys at Skywalker Ranch couldn't fix a very simple syncing issue in a critical scene?
