The trick consist of two type of sequenses. When he is filmed by cameraman he is clearly stepping on a solid surface. The trick is revealed when his feet are being shown by his own camera. You can easily see that now his feet only touch the water and does not touch any solid surface. That means during these sequenses he is suspended in the air by ropes and you can easily swim underneath. These parts, filmed in different times, are just edited to look like continuous film.
