  • Hey dude!

With regards to the filters - is the first cutoff knob controlling the cutoff of *both* filters here? I'm trying this on a soft synth with two filters but not getting the same effect. It works great on my Virus however - and is much more straightforward to set up - one of the reasons I love hardware so much! ;)

  • @subbadome hey man! im making hardstyle im about to buy a virus but is it REALLY difficult to make good leads with it.. i use Sylenth1 now and yeah i can make a good lead but is it really difficult or will u get used to it in a month or smthing

  • That made me so wet. o.o

  • These are really good videos!. I've got the virus classic so I'm able to pretty much copy out what you do so It's even better for learning to really use the Virus. How bout some trancy/drum n bass style pads?

  • epic

  • ur so awesome! :D

  • Thanks alot brother, one of the best tut vids i have seen.

  • So you're not using actual supersaw or clean saw, but square-saw sound? That way you can modulate the pulse with to make it bigger? I tried with supersaw plus a regular saw, but never got it good enough.

  • Thank you sooo much man! I build this on the Virus B - Its working there too.. but I had to adapt some stuff like "MIX" of effects.. thats a bit different in the Virus B... I love my Virus and I love how it sounds now! THX

  • hey I am thinking about getting one of these, I am used to roland gear, I assume Access will do what i want but I want to confirm that. Can I run like 2 midi channels into this at once to control a lead and bass at the same time (from a sequencer) I assume you can only control one sound a time on the unit. So is there a patch and performance mode?

  • @mordsgaudimachen Yes, the roland performance/patch function is similar to the Virus' Multi/Single mode :)

  • this Sounds EPIC!

  • People always say there is no difference anymore between hardware and software synths. But I actually do not know any softsynth wich such a crossfilter...

  • @Inmateshardstyle albino :P

  • i could use one of these

  • a blank & jones Lead, GREAT!

  • sounded awesome :D I love my Polar :)

  • BTW, this tutorial has been a huge help to me in the past to help me create my own patches on the virus ti2, and you go through the different areas of the Virus C very well. I actually heard the Virus C 'sounds' better than the Virus TI2... hmmm... i wonder :D

  • I'm soon buying an Virus to use with Ableton Live, but I need halp installing it, I have no idea, I need a converter right?

  • sounds nice and phat hey, I have the Ti and honestly think the C sounds rougher. I like it hey. The Ti also has its perks tho

  • My Virus TI2 sounds nothing like this =(

  • this lead is great for hardstyle to :) !

  • Is there like a college course, or university course which teaches you what your talking about? because i honestly have no idea what your talking about, and would like to learn :D

  • Haven't used my virus in a long time, almost forgot about it, thanks for reminding me to pull it out of the hardware room : )

  • allright i wanna buy a virus .. i make hardstyle and i SUCK at connecting cabels and stuff xD so TI or C? any advise please =D

  • @QTore i'd get a B - i just love the sound

  • @TheDLovas k:D

  • @TheDLovas The B and C sound the same. Infact to me personally they all sound near to identical the only difference I can tell has to do with the fidelity and the loudness of the outputs i.e. USB over the main outputs.

  • @QTore Ti it has a hypersaw oscillator....so it pretty much does most of the work for you.

  • @sacredgeometry k thanks for info :-)

  • Such a FAT sound! i want it too but i only got a usb connection -.-

  • Damn this synth sounds powerfull, I've been looking for a C for long time but haven't found a decent one yet. :) Seems like you wont need much external FX atleast for lead synths.

  • Hi mate! I produce hardstyle and ive recently bought the virus. It's perfect for leads and ive really improved the quality of my productions with it. However, i have a hard time creating some of the typical hardstyle "screeches", because im struggling with the pitch modulation. I can only control the pitch of OSC2 with the filter, and that gives me limited options. Should i rather try to use a slow lfo or something, or what do you suggest? Great tutorial man!

  • @CreepHardstyle What do you mean control the pitch with the filter?

  • Hey man, you really should do some indepth videos like this one, I have my C for a few years now, but I'm still learning the damn thing haha.. Great job man!

  • i recorded the tutorial with a cheap as camera.. the cheap mic probably makes it sound so compressed.

  • Do you have this going through compression the reverb tail sound sounds a lot closer to the volume of the original hit on yours

  • It sounds soooooooooooooooooo different on my virus b :l

  • damn ive been programming for hours and I just cant get the same sound from my TI.

  • @RemovdSande11 apparently the FM algorythm of the ti is different to the c's.. try something around the 70s, that might help :)

  • @subbadome

Yes my ears told me that also, but damn props for you man ^^ I still can't it to get to sound even close to this.. my OSCS sound like a vst compared to your Virus C O_O

  • @RemovdSande11 its probably volume, are you using usb audio? If you are, don't! Its stupid use the jacks on the pack into your desk or sound card....or straight into your monitors. It will be louder and there for sound less "like a vst"

  • @RemovdSande11 back*

  • @RemovdSande11 p.s. ill try it on my ti2 tomorrow and post a reply if i get it sounding right.

  • @subbadome

dilemma here.. most people on the Acces forum say that the C and the TI sound identical. One of my mates says he liked the C way better above the TI, like you said also. Shall I sell my virus TI (which I bought for the price of a C) and get a Virus C ? it gets me 400-500 bucks of winnings also.

  • @RemovdSande11 the algorythm of the virus c is much rougher and it therefore sounds a bit dirtier, while the ti has that clean sound. they are definitely NOT the same, you'll hear it when you play the sounds a/b.

Don't buy a c if you don't have the right equipment for it. remember you need more than a usb plug for it.. the quality of your outboard equipment will significantly impact your sound. also the total integration saves you a LOT of time when working on projects... stick with the ti :)

  • @subbadome

thanks for yout time replying ; ) I will get audio cables for the Virus TI to replace the shitty USB cable, got to count for something.

I will keep the TI (getting some sick sounds out of it now) and first save up for all the outboard equipment. In the mean time I can crank up my synthesis with the TI :)

  • @subbadome What did you mean about needing more than a usb cable ? other than the midi keyboard what else would i need ? i was about to purchase one and then i ran across your comment so i wanted to see what you were talking about before i bought it . Thanks

  • @Flipjunkie1 he means to get the synth into your setup. whatever it consists of. Im guessing with the TI all you need is a USB because with Viruscontrol you can use it all from your computer including sounds.

  • @RemovdSande11 Buying a Virus C isn't gonna get you better sounds straight out the box, its the way you program the synth, but yes each synth has its own sound!!

If you use it with your midi and audio outputs instead of the USB, the sound quality is better in my opinion, you get a nicer and warmer sound, most folk say its just because its louder through the outputs than it is through the USB, but I will always stand by my opinion that it has a better quality of sound through the outputs!! :)

  • @SJRUKTRANCE so u recommend its better to buy a hardware than using vst's? i mean i always produce my own sounds with ableton's operator but the sound ist like... Clean at all so what sould you recommend to me? cheers =)

  • @subbadome right the sound pre effects sounds identical, but for some reasons the reverb doesnt sound the same, ill keep working on it but its defiintely possible.

  • You do a great job of explaining, thanks for knowing what you are talking about. I don't have a virus, but this still helps me:)

  • is it possible that you give the midi/soundfile for this? since im trying to recreate but it sounds quite different on my TI, from the beginning off my init.

  • Comment removed

  • I love you! No homo =)

  • @newzealanddude92 He can make a Blue Oyster bar sound for you in the next video :D

  • What do you think is best Kamui?

    Virus C or the TI2? :)

  • @xHardstyle123 the c is my baby.

    ;)

  • @subbadome and you can connect it to like fl studio, cubase etc. and use it also as a vst-plugin?

  • sounds so fucking good!

  • I have a question, I'm into getting a synth, probably one from access to make trance but I want to know what the heck that machine is, I mean it doesn't have a keyboard so is it just to make the sounds and then convert them onto a keyboard? Can someone please help a novice.

  • @MathinkysMusiq Just connect the midi controller. Cheapest ones cost around 100-150 dollars

  • @MathinkysMusiq No offence, but if you don't know what hardware you want to buy to produe, you should try shopping for software synthesizers and DAW software; it'll save you several grand.

  • @MathinkysMusiq Yeah if you buy a tabletop model you need a midikeyboard, but those are pretty cheap and if you want to do trance Access Virus Ti 2 tabletop model would be a nice bet and then buy a midikeyboard for it. And if you are lower on budget go for the Access Virus Ti tabletop and if you are even lower than that, the Virus C still kicks ass. But I would do the mistake to buy a to expensive synth and miss out on the rest of the stuff you need, maybe a microphone, monitors, a good souncard

  • @M3sslah Also for soundcard I can recommend a focusrite Saffire pro 24, for monitors I would check out KRK RP8 Rokits G2, for a midikeyboard maybe go for a M-audio Axiom 61 keys, and if you want to maybe play some music in the future and want something really nice go for a fatar VWK-188+. And then maybe an ok condenser mic, studio projects B1 is an ok to get you started. You might want to sample stuff, your own voice, hitting pans and pots in the kitchen, who knows a mic is important to have.

  • @MathinkysMusiq So with all that in mind maybe you are best of with a cheaper Access Virus, and suddenly you might feel, damn I want to sound like Daft Punk then you need a talkbox, then check out Rocktron Banshee 2 talkbox. I'm just saying, to many buy one thing and think they are set, but you are never set. If your budget is 2000 euro I would go for an Access Virus C like the one he is using in the vid, then all the stuff I mentioned. Then you are good to go without hickups, good luck man.

  • @MathinkysMusiq Another thing you need is a DAW, a sequenserprogram that you create the music in. Are you a windows user I would go for either Cubase or Ableton Live, there is also fruityloops you can check out. After you get those and the other gear you will maybe feel a lack of drums, that's why you need to get some samplepacks, Vengeance essential Clubsounds 1, 2 and 3 is a good start. The rest you need is pretty much inside the DAW you get, and FL is the cheapest of those I mentioned to buy.

  • sexy studio !

  • good things from virus... has a fat loud and thick sound and knobs galore!!! these things me us easier to edit sound compare other synths.

  • Wow, you made that look so easy. :-)

Well done, and thanks for the tut!

  • good job man :D

  • I don't have a virus, but this video was really good. You should talk about what was sequencing it though--nice one

  • @willmasahiro If you mean the part near the end of the video, he was using the Virus' Arpeggiator, which automatically plays whatever keys are held down in a certain sequence (depending on the Arp's settings).

  • @kevin12567 OH, thats cool. The Virus must have a really nice Arp section on it--I thought it was a proper sequence. Rock on.

  • THE BEST

  • just tried it on TI, i was not so precise so the sound is a bit different, but still interesting

    thank you!

  • I have a noob question..it is easy to conact the Virus with reson4??and how it works in Reason

  • @BadTwin25 the virus is not compatible with reason. owned.

unless you use reason's external midi controlling capabilities, ie tell a midi channel in reason to play via Midi Out into the Virus (running in multi mode).

hopefully they (access and propellerheads) will incorporate this, but propellerheads made a big mistake ruling out VSTs.

  • Comment removed

  • @sacredgeometry

Reason does not send MIDI. You can't sequence external gear with it.

  • @dusp2k no way! im sure it used to have midi out thats shocking! another reason its useless for my production.

  • @sacredgeometry

I use Pro tools as my main DAW and rewire Reason to it. This way I get best of both worlds. Using Reason in combination with external gear.

As far as I know, Reason never had MIDI-out capabilities.

  • @dusp2k well its been a while since i looked at it for more than just a passing glance, version 2 or 2.5 if i remember right. I couldn't tell you why i have that memory. That really shocking. who considers this a functional DAW? its pathetic :(

    peace

    Brian

  • Dood that is the best sounding trance lead I've heard in a long time. You're amazing!

  • CRAZZZYYYYYY!!!

  • Kamui is supposed to be German yea?

    lol, he sounds Australian

  • cool ass hel <3

  • Dang... I see those monitors on the right everywhere. Can someone tell me the name of those beauties?

  • Chh, Korg's come prepackaged with these crappy overused trance leads! Take that Access!

  • i have it over a couple of day's and i go try to make thad lead!!

    wonderful!!!!

  • wow, you have fast hands

  • Is the new "Access Virus TI2 Desktop Synthesizer" better than the version in the vid?

  • @InnerflamesUnLtd

    ...Yes

  • @InnerflamesUnLtd it has a higher polyphony count and more synthesis modes (hypersaw, formant, grain (both use wavetable)) more distortion types and so on. The C doesn't disappoint, anyway.

  • really nice lead - Thor in Reason 4 (as a rewire) can create similar sounds and programmes almos identically - this sounds awsome though! Thanks

  • one of kamui tracks is on pure trance 7. it sounds badass

  • Man you should do a DVD or online tutorials on dance/Lead sounds..

I'd pay to see that :)

  • Do you make the kicks on virus?

  • Really love sounds from kamui, they are just great, everytime they create this awesome sounds, just love it!!!!

  • hey - is theres a way of doing this with software instead of hardware?

  • @relentlessGB Yes. Definitely. This is called "subtractive" synthesis, and its easy to find software that models this. Look at the Arturia products, and there are even some free ones out there.

  • The closest you will get to the real thing (and reasonable price) is the TC Powercore1 PCI DSP card. You get 14 "hardware" plugins that run of the DSP card, and can get additional plugins/effects such as the Access Virus, V-Station etc.

  • Damn you're good. Thanks for this post. *Runs to Virus*

  • Nicely done! Such a sharp percussive "blast". It's got a good crack to it when the filter's open. I've got some great soft synths but I don't know if they will do that as well. thx

  • great job!

You don't waste your time, it's nice continue on other gnice sounds :)

People are interesting by sound design and analogue synth can read "Programming Analogue Synths.pdf" by Howard Scarr

  • I love how this is a tutorial video, and at the end he just totally goes nuts and changes all of the settings and doesn't explain anything, lol.

  • This is a really nice video :)

but i really wanna buy a Virus TI.

But i dont know if i have to by both the synthesizer and the desktop? cause im afraid if i just use my money and then its just waste ? :/ Please if anyone know about this

    thx :)

  • fascinating

i can't program, so this is helpful

  • What kind of hardware do people use when it comes to kicks(f;example: Hardstyle kicks), snares, claps percussion and that stuff?

And is getting a Virus a good start of synth-programming?

  • you can make a kick with the virus. Many hardstyle producers use the virus

  • thanks for reply!!""

  • if your looking for a hardstyle synth, go for the virus, a jp8080 (or the jp8000 if you want the keyboarded, less featured version.

  • I believe you only need two simple envelopes and one oscillator to make a kick, maybe also some noise... You can do that with any synth.

Spending +1000 on a virus to learn programming is a very stupid idea. Start with cheap second hand stuff that's forgotten and not hyped like the virus or with a softsynth and a controller.

  • for the absolute best kicks, snares, cymbals I would highly recommend Vengeance essential clubsounds 2 and 3.

as soon as you run through the sample collection you instantaneously get the feeling that your using the industry standard

    not a bad feeling :D

  • I got the VEC2 pack, but I was thinking about learning how to make the beat sounds myself! :-)

    Thanks anyways!

  • and thats how you end up with boring and generic sounding music :P

  • thats subjective,

if your making dance music what other samples are you gonna use?

the ones that come with the DAW, which always suck,

hmm loud generic sounding bassdrums or wimpy cardboard box bassdrums...

Ill take the ones made by vengeance, I mean they run a mastering studio, they know what theyre doin and it shows lol

  • how about this......get a microphone and take a stick....and bang it on some things you will be surprised at the diverse and incredible sounds you get...you will rarely use packed samples ever again...at least you wont want to except for laziness.

  • I have done thet and I did get a range of diverse sounds, none that I would want in my dance productions however, or at least not in replace of packed samples.

look you can produce your music with a microphone and sticks and ill produce mine with packed samples

I mean have you ever ran through one of the essential clubsounds library?

    theyre pretty damn good.

  • i have every (i think) vengeance pack and yes they are good but they do unless heavily modified create a horribly generic sound.

by no means was i trying to convince you otherwise :) i was just stating something from my experience. Most artists that have their own sound don't use packaged samples alot.

unless you/they are trying to achieve that default cooky cutter sound and don't get me wrong theres nothing wrong with that its stylised....but not innovative.

  • This is true they can sound overly-generic but as far as dance music goes, (and I definently produce other styles as well) I would only really use the vengeance packs for drum sounds.

and also I dont think its the samples that make the music generic its more the person making it, so as you long as you keep it original its all good.

But they do make it easy to make it generic with all the drum loops, if you use those then your music is guarenteed to sound generic lol.

  • oh :) have you got any work online i would love to hear you music :D

    peace

    brian

  • And no I dont have any work posted online yet but I might sometime in the future

  • awesome :) if you remember please let me know.

    peace

    Brian

  • THEY ARE KAMUI !!!

  • sorry?

  • urgh sorry about the punctuation :)

  • oh and if you are running a daw i take it you have synths? you can make as punchy a kick as you could ever need on most synths and and a little compression ...most of the time you dont even need compression.

  • super powerful punchy and leady trancesound....

you know how to use your virus :D

  • great tut dude!

  • can i also get this sounds as a software? and not a hardware

  • no :)

  • After having watched houndreds of youtube videos with the same theme as this, i was in doubt clicking on this one. But damn; this is actually a lead. A real nice and fat one too. Access should thank you for convincing me to use money on a Virus! Great stuff!

  • nice

  • Alesis M1 active MK2 ftw!!!! :D

  • that's great

  • very interesting!

i'm not really into producing but it's nice to see how you create a certain sound :)

  • thanx!!! alot of producers hold out on showing ppl this like a-lusion when i asked him what effects he adds 2 his leads at QDANCE!

  • Comment removed

  • great tips - i'll be trying the filter stuff on my Virus tonight.

  • sick tutorial

  • whoa, i cant believe you have to go through all those buttons to produce some sick beats!

  • I think probably not even half of all the steps to get to the final result are shown in this vid! Nevertheless, really cool vid with some fantastic tips. It sure shows how much time goes into a track :) (plus this video as well).

    Rock on guys!

  • You are a legend!!

  • LOVE YOU GUYS!@!!

  • Very Very nice video man!!!

    Keep em coming

  • excellent tut dominik :)

    very in depth

    thank you man :)
