  • Its like Hip Hop looks down @ his younger Brother Rap & says "Come on bruh" "Step your game up" !!!

  • @AssyMcgeeKicksAce therein lies the problem.... Hot Boys were a popular "Rap" group. No one should consider them Hip Hop.

  • "ad space for liquor" very poetic, simple yet penetrating

  • I'm not one to use the phrase "epic" but in this case... This shit TOWERS over the trash that gets thrown at us nowadays.

  • thumbs up if you like Mos Def: Hip Hop - Black On Both Sides

  • @sexykatie90 Otherwise we wouldn't be here. Stop posting stupid bullshit dude!

  • Where can I post to all of Youtube to stop comparing these rappers to Lil Wayne? I could see if you compared someone who was similar to Lil Wayne to Lil Wayne, but when you compare 90's MC's to the artists of today it's laughable. Fucking retards man go talk about Lil Wayne on his videos or I'm going to start comparing Lil Wayne to Grandmaster Flash on his Vevo.

  • @HexLordMalacrass THE ETERNAL loss of soul and reflectivity is a self-inflicted crime. Lil' Wayne is a hip-hop fetish you decide to spread to weaker souls. Who's to blame. Who do you want the "True-Horse" Nation to follow you? Talk with purpose.

Do i like any of the mainstream artists YOU just mentioned? No

I got love for both New School & Old School rap/hip hop

From J. Cole, and Fashawn, to nas, and kool g rap to mos def & talib

Kanye, and common, Big KRIT & Kendrick Lamar to OutKast

    ITS ALL HIP HOP

  • @GoggleMan25 You just said the truth right there man!. Salute...

  • @diddisdiddat

lol, yeah i thought i had to say it, cuz its really annoying to see all of these comments hating on new school rap, the majority of the rappers they claim to be fans of were mainstream at one point, getting great songs on the charts, getting record sales in the millions, a lot still are mainstream but just arent as popular as they used to be

Black on Both Sides went certified Gold in a little under 4 months btw

  • illmatic!

  • Can yall shut the fuck up!!!!! Really who gives a fuck about your opinions. Listen to the music , love it or hate it. If you dont understand black ppl so what, if you dont understand white ppl , so what. Yall need to stop wasting time debating and just enjoy the music. If you can enjoy it, get yo ass off this page and go do sumthin else. Yall can argue forever and neva get no where. Non of yall hearing each otha , might as well keep opinions to urself if they aint positive.

  • @lasexzchika Suck a fat one . Mos def has negitive shit to say , Bet you wouldnt be up in his face when he saying it . Youd be some groupie on his nut-sack . "Hip hop is prosecution evidence , A out of court settlement " !

  • @aotearoastyle idiot of course he got negative shit to say, he aint a saint. WTF. The point is that it is meaningless to always get into these heated debates. For wat, i mean you think you getting a message out cuz if you are i think you need to explain it betta, cus i aint seeing ya point. Jus relax, you didnt even have to reply, Honestly i above and beyond this petiness. Be negative if you want, you only hurting urself. Have a great one!!

  • @lasexzchika what was that , you'll have to type it again i didn't read all that bullshit in the first place . My first comment still stands idiot . Try justifying yourself to me again so i can laugh at you

  • @aotearoastyle My comment still stands also loser, have a great one!!!

  • @lasexzchika lol i still havnt read your comment , who cares about your comments ?

  • hIP Hop is BLACK MUSIC/CULTURE. Non blacks call it "Universal Music" cause they wanna be down

  • @breezwonder spoken like a true nigger! You guys made up your own culture cuz your culture was lost, most of you dont know who you are or where you come from, seperated from your true culture, thats why yuo invented the hip hop culture, for something to cling to,you made up your own language just to have something you could call your own,it aint about being down,it aint about colour, its for anybody who loves the art form,it is music, self expression, black or white who gives a shit.I LOVE HIP HOP!

  • @DaAlphaOmega Spoken like a true Wigger. Always trying to call Hip Hop "Universal" "It aint about color" Blah Blah Blah. Dont wanna hear it Hip Hop is Black Music/Culture

  • @breezwonder i don't wanna hear your niggers are the best shit then, white rappers seem to have better fuckin flow and rhymes and themes

  • @jewses White Rappers don't have the best flow in nothing. Their just rip offs from black rappers. The great white hype Eminem is overated cause he's white. If he was black he would'nt even sell half the records he does.

  • @breezwonder I think your forgetting how wack it was to be a white rapper after vanilla ice. It was a handicap to be white in hip hop.

  • @Freshhhhh1982 Yeah thats true. I do give Vanilla credit because he hung in there despite what anyone had to say

  • @breezwonder Im white myself but I never liked white rappers. It just looks wrong to me.

  • @Freshhhhh1982 Yeah I know. Only ones i really like is Beastie Boys and Kid Rock

  • @breezwonder i aint saying there aint black rappers that arn't fuckin good, i've just listened to more white rappers that i appreciate more than black rappers. i don't even like eminem that much!! i dont know why your bitching about him? is that your only argument or something? and please don't give me this blacks should be the only ones that rap bullshit man. if thats the case, why are black people driving cars? using technology that white people invented? it works two ways brutha

  • @jewses "whyare black people driving cars?" How can you put a neccessity in the same category as a Musical genre? man that is weak

  • @breezwonder thats not my point bro, i dont care what it is, that was just an example. (who says a car is a necessity anyway?) in fact i would say music is more of a necessity but ANYWAY, my point is, it doesnt matter what race " invented" whatever, it's there for everyone to enjoy and be a part of whether you like it or not.

  • @jewses False. Non Blacks made for "Everyone to enjoy" Hip Hop was created by Africa Bambatta and Kool Herc to give Black voice in America

  • @breezwonder and hip hop was inspired and fuelled by pre existing music, made for different reasons. who cares. im appreciating some good music, that's all. if you cant do that then what you doin on this video.

  • @jewses white rappers suck generally and i bety the only white rapper u know is eminem u cracker fag.go listen 2 white lady gaga crap and leave this 2 the men

  • @LilBlitz116 excuse me dickwad, kindly go to the top of your page, and type in one of these names, knowmads, classified, atmosphere, macklemore, common market, blue scholars, mike boyd, redrama, brother ali...all AMAZING white rappers who shit on eminem. how long do i need to go on for. i fuckin HATE mainstream music these days it's all terrible, so FUCK you kid, stop talkin shit, you don't know anything. peace

  • @jewses Word=) Ali is in my opinion best freestyler that ever lived...and he's albino.

+ I find it sort of funny how today's mainstream "rappers" only get compared to rappers who were mainstream back in the day. If people searched for music instead of waiting for everything to be brought to them on a platter and meanwhile complaining about how bad today's hiphop is, that's their bad.

  • @LilBlitz116 dont forget about atmosphere, brother ali, vinnie paz and a couple more...

  • @breezwonder i aint white and im still sayin it,we all need to unite or we are all doomed, music has brought alot of people together,no matter what it is,rock to hip hop,it dont matter, hip hop was made so we could have a voice and speak out about greater issues and create awareness educating the youth with facts and not bullshit like there teachers do,im native,we are all brothers from another mother in the same struggle, its us against the government not eachother, change your attitude.

  • @DaAlphaOmega Well said but i notice everytime Black people create something and all it Black it always gets taken from others and called something else i.e "Universal" "Slang" "Urban" etc. why do other culltures get to have things labled for them accept Blacks? why is it Asian Music, Arabic Music? how come non blacks gotta call each other Niggas?

  • @breezwonder In my opinion, its all just people,i think it should all be open for anybody to enjoy, natives call eachother niggas to make themselves feel apart of it all, some black people dont like other races in the hip hop culture so we make oursleves apart of it and do it regardless, its an art form, besides Aero Smith was given credit for hip hop long ago by run DMC,its rhyming words together, how can you put a colour to it? it seems stupid to me,we need to unite not be seperated.

  • @DaAlphaOmega I dont understand. Why do oher races call themselves Niggas? Why do they emulate Black culture so much? I hear Hispanics calling each other "Esses" but know one Imitates that. My beef is, Why is everything Blacks create its always taken and called something else?

  • @breezwonder look at DR ZEUS tho bro,hes rhyming, its poetry,i dont get how black people take credit for that, everything is everything, many cultures have their own variations of the same things just slightly different from eachother, ancient tribes did graffitti long before "BBOYS" or Hip hop culture existed, its like blacks stamped it as their own taking credit for it,it aint nothing new, slaves came up with a martial art that looks like a dance to break out of the slave camp, this is like breaking.

  • @DaAlphaOmega there is no such thing as nigga or nigger really, its what you call an ignorant person in my opinion, anybody can be a nigga or nigger, its all in the context of how its used, just cuz your black dont make you a nigger,it was a durogatory term used by the white man,i dont get why blacks refer to themselves as niggers, callin eachother niggers,i know sometimes you beat them to the punch and they have nothing left but still.I dont like being called indian,im native.

  • @breezwonder check out some real conscious hip hop from my boy Athiest Rapper,Greydon Square,he has tape over his mouth in the pic,hes a true intellect, one of the best out there spittin crazy knowledge and all of it true.

  • There's the hum... young man where you from? Montreal numba 1 Native son,Je parle dans ma langue natal...Yeah hip hop is da ish...wack mos def track doesn't exist like good song from the mainstream and sorry for my english im french :D

  • 2 words for you kids...., REAL MUSIC!!!

  • @ECWIWCW I'm 18 and I definitely agree with you on this one.

  • @Rileyfree lol im younger and i prefer this music over Lil Wayne

  • ohh my god!! the improvisation behind the beat is sick!! why haven't i been listening to this earlier!!!

  • My restlessness is my nemesis, It's hard to really chill and sit still, Committed to page, Sometimes I write a rhyme and won't finish for days!

  • one of my inspirations....THE MIGHTY MOS!!!!!!!

  • grande tema :->

  • klasyk!

  • mos def is one of the greatest MCs to hold the mic

  • greaaaaaaaat shit

  • Speech is my hammer, bang the world into shape

    Now let it fall...Hungh!!

  • A true MC

  • @OVENFRESHPASTRY sick line from the best hip hop song ever

  • Mind you, that isn't to say that all mainstream rap is bad, personally though, Mos Def is my favorite.

  • Songs from those mixtapes that will get played on the radio are then picked purely for that reason, and put onto albums that are actually advertised and released in stores. It devalues the songs themselves when all the artist has to do is go in and rap about something, and usually that performance and topic is perfunctory at best, and it devalues the experience of listening to, and writing music for an album itself.

  • I honestly think that some of the stuff in the mainstream is pretty cool. However, a large part of the problem in that scene is that the record companies are acting more like factories, churning out songs as fast as possible, and that is facilitated by the fact that many producers, paid and unpaid hobbiests, send beats into companies, where they are picked up, rapped over, then put onto mixtapes which are released for a profit.

  • I honestly don't mind some of the mainstream stuff. 50 cent has honestly done some really sick stuff, so has jay-z, and def ludacris. The problem I have with that scene is that a lot of stuff that comes out is the product of the record companies becoming song factories, with artists producing ridiculous amounts of songs cause they dont have to worry about producing beats, which is done by paid producers and by hobbiests, and they can make mix tapes to pick and choose songs from.

  • "swallow my words, taste my thoughts. and if its too nasty, spit it back at me!"

    weezy's words for the haters

  • @mj23j3tt the main issue that people who love hip hop have with the mainstream is that it lacks the variety it once had. its very one sided these days, all the same shit! hip hop has many faces and its all about taste, fair enough! but only one of those faces seems to be getting global recognition right now.

its a sign of the times that this particular face just happens to be one that expresses materialism over substance! so you cant really blame wayne for that.

  • @ILLER121 cant help but to agree with this....

  • people really have to stop complaining about mainstream this that

if you dont like whats on the radio, dont listen to it. i dont

and quit hating on lil wayne, hes not as sick as mos def but hes sick, thats for sure

"swallow my words, taste my thoughts. and if its too nasty, spit it back at me!"

    weezy's words for the haters

  • If only this was in the mainstream......

  • From the sovereign state of the have-nots

Where farmers have trouble with cash crops (woooo)

As all city life fades too

Hip Hop will simply amaze you

    Praise you, pay you

    Do whatever you say do

But black, it can't save you

    --Goddamn!

  • @KRpr0ductions its "all city like PHASE 2" referring to the legendary godfather of graffiti Phase 2 from the 70's. just wanna point that out. peace.

  • Man, I wish the mainstream radio was riddled with hot shit like this. I've been addicted to old Mos Def, Common, old Nas, Wu-Tang, Raekwon, GZA, DangerDoom, Dr. Octagon and A Tribe Called Quest lately. These guys are the true representatives of hip-hop.

The shit on the radio now makes me sad.

  • soooooo true. black on both sides is amazing, as for new mos def, casa bey is a sick song. i enjoyed the ecstatic for the most part.

  • black star is supposed to make a new cd

  • @docMalicious

you just summed up everything perfectly. I listen to the same, and it just makes me sad how kids now-a-days are supporting the whackest rappers just so they have something to listen to, but now dumb cats are blownin up and dont deserve it, when the Real Men are going as hard as they can selling their albums on every block, not getting some bitch ass manger to get it out to all the hipsters to put on their ipod... thanks doc, we need more smart people like yourself. stay up playa

  • yea most underground rappers today are really good but labels will not pick them up because they dont use auto tune

  • listen to boot camp clik and all of the groups they branch off into (Heltah Skeltah, OGC, Black Moon, Smif N Wessun) and Sean Price has made quite a name for himself solo. Check out Show and AG, Erick Sermon solo EPMD and Def Squad (Jamal aka Mally G, Redman, Keith Murray) and PMD, Leaders of the New School, Das EFX, Fu- Schnickens, Onyx, Brand Nubian, Slum Village, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Gravediggaz, Da Bush Babees, Tha Alkaholiks and Tash solo, funkdoobiest, Camp Lo, KMD, DITC, etc

  • @docMalicious so true man i wish someone made a radio station only playing the true face of hip hop if anyone knows of one plz tell me and tell the truth the old jay z is good just not his recent stuff

  • @docMalicious

    fucking Tpain :[

  • @docMalicious I don't know if you have but I suggest listening to Immortal Technique it will change your perspective on rap forever for real

  • @docMalicious get sirius satellite radio, they have a really good station called backspin where they only play old ll cool j, run dmc, 2pac, nas, de la soul. Radio today thats controlled by the labels is dead.

  • @docMalicious lol dr octagon

  • @docMalicious they own the radio, so positive music isn't played

  • Comment removed

  • @docMalicious Not just DangerDoom, MF DOOM.

  • @docMalicious Can't agree with you more man.

  • @docMalicious man i thought i was alone man hip hop is not the same

  • @docMalicious Nice selection. Look up the Nas demo tape if you want more Illmatic level beats:). Scientifik - Criminal is another underrated nineties gem.

  • Made, that's O.C. from "Time's Up."

  • yea top 5... I can see why.... mos def is definitely one of the coolest people alive

  • mos def is in my top 5 alive .. top 10 of all time

  • Comment removed

  • can someone help me out wit this sample:"the more emotion i put into it,the harder i rock" i cant remember the name of the song or artist
