To all the stupid people commenting about lack of space and whatnot - thats a tarantula icu - probably the best thing anyone can do for a t suffering from dks.
@jen1302 The exact same thing happened to my Brazilian Black. He/she started exhibiting the behavior and molted a few weeks later. Where did you get yours and when? I've read around and can't find a precise answer as to what causes DKS.
What an outstanding little girl. Did this illness cause her alot of pain? It almost looked like her joints were locking. Very sad indeed. I hope my Grammostola Rosea stays happy and healthy, What was the temprement of your Chaco? x
@TheHellonheart could not of said it better myself. If your going to have ANY animal please check what it needs in terms of room. That tub sir is WAY WAY WAY to small x
@PureOakley01 if you get really sick, the docs would put you in an ICU. its not a large room with lots of space. its pretty much a bed thats covered. think of this tub like that. Tarantula ICUs look just like this, its not its home...its the best means of attempting to heal the spider. but i guess you would just let it suffer and die from this horrible syndrom "hey, atleast it died painfully in a big home" is that your answer?
this guy suks man!!!!!! do u like to live in smal spaces?were u cant move!!!!!!!!!! guive her some space and good substract!!!!!!!! grrrrrrrrrr if u dont know how to keep a animal dont have one!!!!!!!!!!!!! :/
@GRoseaHelpMe Dyskinetic syndrome appears to happen rather frequently with The Grammostola Aureostriata. I have had a specimen of this particular species that died because of this illness. Mine died shortly before she was about to molt. Not that much is known about dyskinetic syndrome, but it does tend to appear rather with very exotic species. Grammostola Roseas for example have much less genetic affinity to get it.

i have heard that putting the tarantula in a humid bathroom with the shower running or somthing has been known to help but usually the result is death :(
herd a story awhile back guy had like 17 T's walked into his room one day with some new cologne within a couple days almost all 17 had DKS not many lived and that was the end of it the moral is be very aware of what goes near your T my hat is off to all who have experienced this Lucara07 im so sorry for your lose
someone said it can also be attributed to some brands of cigarettes, because the main ingredient in the manufacture of many cigarettes especially mentholated, is used in insecticide....
words of many wise and long-lived individuals:
SMOKE MARIJUANA INSTEAD... my tarantulas have never been healthier... they even get the munchies
@LXDNG you shouldnt smoke anything near them just a bit of friendly advice all smoke can be insecticides due to the fact that there so small it restrics there oxygen to much
@Marilyn22 there are some major breakthroughs with this my g. rosea lived with the syndrome for 9 months give r take i tryed everything and only was prolonging her life finaly someone told me get her out of potting soil(the little white nutrient pebbles are very poisonous)and bam she got better almost instantly been 3 months no signs of DKS another thing thats been directly linked is febreze(people think its safe cause it says it is BUT T's ARE NOT your average pet)and other perfumes& aerosols
No. That thing is called an "ICU" and it's a rescue enclosure for T's. It has high humidity and water readily avaliable. Supposed to be put dark and in a somewhat warmer area to give the T a chance to regain moist. Although I don't think I've ever heard of a T recovering from DS.
I am glad you have posted this video as my T just died and she had exactally the same symptoms. I think you have diagnosed it for me. Sorry to hear your's died too,
hi was it a salmon pink bird eater .. what a crackin spider shame she died ive been told lowering the temp of the inclosure by 3 - 5 degrees can help get them through it havnt had any expereince dont know if it works ...
It was to video document it. Theres not much known about dyskinetic syndrome in tarantulas. She was extremely well taken care of and the jewel of my collection. Trust me, I did nothing to harm her.

what's a Dyskinetic Syndrome ?
divinegod123 2 years ago
to divinegod123:
Tardive dyskinesia is a mostly irreversible neurological disorder of involuntary movements. In spiders it is a 100% death sign.
I have lost a few spiders from it in the past.
No one really knows how it happens, or what causes it.
it is really sad, and worst undetectable until it starts.
See it like a brain tumor with extreme spasms that kills in 1 week.
Sorry to see your Tarantula like that mate.
I know how you feel
Marilyn22 2 years ago
oh man thats really sad :(
divinegod123 2 years ago
did someone not say it was to do with aerosols /perfumes?
utterbeastage 2 years ago
yes... this is possible and also depends on the chemical compounds specific to a range of aerosols... even aerosol lubricants like WD40

No, thats not her normal enclosure, like Spinelesstheif said, it was an ICU container. Sort of a last hope remedy type of a thing.
