  • The exhaust pipe could do with a rain flap the same as they sell for tractors. With northern Europe getting about 1 metre of rain each year the wet gets everywhere. Another way is to put a jam jar or a coffee jar over the exhaust pipe (glass doesn't rust!). Nice old fashioned phut-phut sound and it should be very economical.

  • @techdavey1000 Hello :) Yes I have a jar over the pipe when the engine is stop :)

  • If you could get a start up video it'd be awesome, if not its no problem. I'll just have to wait 2 months for the sailing season

  • god i love the sound of those old 1 piston yanmars! we have on in our sailboat, except ours is a 78 yanmar 12hp.

  • What are the smallest true diesel engines ? I've seen them on garden tillers.

  • Hello. There is a lot of small diesel engines for model planes and cars.

Search for "diesel model engine" or

    small diesel engine maybee.

    Good luck!

  • that yanmar sounds nice cingle cylenders rock

  • ok, thank for the advise :D

  • is that good engine? im bying a boat wjit my friend and it has the same diesel motor

  • Hello. The engine is ok, but they are old now, so check for rust and leaks in the cooling system, cylinderhead, cylinder, silencer. Saltwater is terrible for all engines. Check the lub oil system to, pressure and leaks. Take the boat out for a trip and check the temperature and oilpressure when the engine has it´s working temp.

    Good luck.
