  • Weirdest movie of all time

  • LOVE YOU SOOKIE STACKHOUSE

  • Just when I thought Jeff Daniels couldn't possibly be any dumber.... he goes and stars in a movie like this....AND TOTALLY REDEEMS HIMSELF!!

  • "I need some nights without you guys" that sounds familiar

  • his mom is jim carrey's wife in the truman show..

  • Semi-unfortunately, this is a very accurate portrayal of the typical Park Slope family.

  • @sasasa5ify well it was made in 2005, but it takes place in the 80's...

  • this is the better trailer by far, in the other one. it tries to portray the movie as a comedy, even though this is quite emotionally moving to those who have divorced parents. favorite movie

  • myah.. a picture with a squid humping a wheal, and they decided to name the movie the squid and the wheal.. clever! -.-"

  • Ever heard of the band Noah And The Whale, they named themselves after this film, instead of squid the put Noah after Noah Baumbach, cool eh?

  • This movie was absolute sh1t, sick crap, don't waste your time with this one

  • Frank is so ugly.....no wondering he pleasures himself. He can't get a girlfriend!

  • jesse is sexy as hell but i like his hair curly...

  • Jesse Eisenberg is my all time favorite actor! <3 He can fit any role because he is so average!!! i love him!

  • this movie was utter shit

  • I always like Pink Floyd but this movie made me love it... O.o

  • I absolutely loved this movie. The filming, screenplay and actors were impeccable.

  • I love this movie...

  • Anyone else find it really creepy that Anna Paquin and Jeff Daniels played father and daughter in Fly Away Home but in this they play lovers (kinda)...?

  • @ThePhantom135 ikr? I mean have you seen the shining trailers? They all suck and they make you think the shining is some sort of cheesy family movie... But that's the thing! The trailers dont make the movie (kinda the same as "dont judge a book by its cover")

  • anyone else think the best movies have the worst trailers and the worst movies have the best trailers? maybe because trailers like this one can't fully capture their respective films? thoughts?

  • trailers ruin flims

  • The Squid and the Whale....in other words, how two people who pride themselves on their intellect and big vocabularies are bigger monsters than the people they analyze in their writing...

  • Noah Baumbach deservedly received an Oscar nomination for his bittersweet tale of a dysfunctional family. One of the best films of 2005.

  • Jesse without curly hair omgomgomgomg! :L

  • "Your being a shit Walt."

    Has me laughing every time..

  • jesse eisenberg was a huge pimp in this movie

  • JESSE EISENBERG. my only reason for seein this movie

  • what the heck anna panquin in here tooo from fly away home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! weird

  • isnt he from fly away home?

  • i now realize the ocean isn't hundreds of miles deep but i normally don't think before i post.

  • i honestly went into watching this trailer expecting an epic battle between a squid and a whale somewhere hundreds of miles below the surface of the ocean. just goes to show what a huge kick in the balls the movie industry is. Now if you excuse me i'm off to redtube, all the videos there end the same but at least they're better than this bullshit.

  • nice - James likes this comment

  • Laura Linney is not a "whore" in this movie. She plays a wife and Mother who is made miserable by her condescending and self serving husband. Ultimately, she triumphs at the end. This movie is well worth the rental fee.

  • weird

  • Why does that Laura Linney always have to play a dumb whore?

  • Hey You is better in this trailer than it is on its own.

  • it's depressing and it's great!

  • i took one look at the comments and everyone is cursing each other out and i juss dont see the point over a movie trailer

  • look, is Mark Zuckerberg! lol. What happened to his curly hair?

  • @fede018 LOLOLOLOL JFDKDSFGKL. Jesse straightens it sometimes.

  • ITS A JUST A TRAILER!!! N hw does d person getting diabetes help u ?!! U sick little fucker!! If u didnt like d trailer , there was no need to leave ur stupid comments. Then gen ill give u d benefit of d doubt maybe ur fukking retarded, as a matter of fact ur an insult to retards!!!

  • This looks amazing

  • this movie made we wanna read

  • @101chowdhury Did it also make we wanna take some grammar lessons? =D

  • love this movie

  • this movie just looks so bad.. plot line is pretty dismal

  • well...that was depressing

  • looks booring

  • What word does Bernard use to describe the tennis instructor?

  • He has a heart attack but decides that he was tired.

  • pink floyd for life

  • Slit my wrists now please

  • I love the use of Hey You in this it's perfect

  • Elegant. Elegant. Fillet.

  • This track makes the film seem unnaturally melodramatic.

  • When i see this I see my life, from the fathers perspective, and I fear for my children and what we have done. It isn't what I wanted for them and It was not what I wanted for me. Im so sorry.

  • jesse eisenberg doesn't look good with straight hair, he looks so much better with his curly afro of awesomeness

  • the dad in the movie is brilliant; i wonder if he got any awards for it

  • This movie illustrates what happens with the kids of intellectual parents....basically their lives are somewhat miserable a great part of the time...

  • This movie is basically my childhood made into a movie.

While I was watching it I felt like I was reminiscing about my past, then I got depressed......

  • one of 100 best movies of the decade

  • the title sucks

  • This is one of my favorite movies! I wish I owned it..

  • Interesting movie, it's a good watch

  • the band noah and the whale were really inspired by this movie.

i cant wait to see it!

  • this was a great movie! :D

  • worst trailer EVER? Maybe so, but i think ill watch it since its on tv tonight (in sweden) and it got like 5 stars... yeah whatever ;p

  • i like it when he claims to have written hey you. "well i feel i could have written it." haha i really like this movie a lot.

  • ITS STILL MY NIGHT DAMNIT!!!

  • What is the meaning of the title?

  • Cool I'm From park slope

  • What does the little boy throw up when he is drinking and his dad never picked him up & his mom was out with Ivan?

  • in the beginning of the movie he puts a cashew up his nose. his mom tells him to take it out but he doesnt.

  • ahhh...that makes sense! thanks for clearing that up :) such a good movie.

  • i think it was his puke since he was drinking allot... but he was also am ... masturbating so it could have been something disgusting

  • I have seen the film but i don't understand the end. what happens with the father? why did the son go to the museum again?

  • He went back to the museum because he wanted to overcome his fear of looking at the squid in the whale. As a child he was terrified by it. And I also think he was trying to prove to himself that he wasn't as emotional as his Dad said he was when he was visiting him in the hospital.

  • the film was okay but REALLY random

  • how was it random?

  • I just saw this movie today; It was only .99 for a rental on iTunes, and I thought I'd watch it. I'm so glad I did. This movie is excellent. I can't wait to find a copy of it soon. I couldn't stop laughing at the masturbation scene.

  • It's been much too long since I last saw this film.

  • Does anyone know what the song at the end of the movie is called where Walt runs to see the exhibit?

  • "street hassle" by lou reed.

  • I loved this film! hey you~

  • i felt the masterbation scene where essential in showing how detached and delusional the youngest son was becoming. oddly enough, i guess none of you got that :)

  • having Pink floyd as the background score. classic man, classic

  • beer.

  • yeah this film was good. but the weird the masturbation scenes were a bit too much.

  • This is a great trailer. Hey you is a great song!

  • This movie is spectacular and show's what divorce is like amongst disfunctional people. I was impressed other than the fucking weird masturbation scenes of course

  • I like when Owen Kline is in Library!!

  • A very pretentious and disfunctional film made about disfunctional people to be appreciated by a disfunctional audience.

  • it's a dark comedy

  • thank god i read this before i watched the whole thing

  • Comment removed

  • @ff7reborn dude. relax. discuss yer anger issues at your next therapy session and dont take it out on the world. we're talkin bout movies here, right?

  • @zaprudermacphee LOOOOOOL!!!!!!

  • @ff7reborn i guess i would bitch about things if i were ugly too.

  • @ff7reborn ohhhhh nooo. i wish i read this before i watched that. i agree. and i never seen this movie. but i still have high expectations. fuckkkk

  • @ff7reborn I hope you made the guy cry I really do

  • @ff7reborn after you said "you fucking ruined the movie for anyone who never watched it before" you just sort of go down hill into an malicious rant

  • @ff7reborn I suggest xanax, or valium. or something that doesn't make you seem like a helpless hopeless human.

  • @ff7reborn harsh much?

  • @ff7reborn

You are my hero. Please have my babies.

  • @ff7reborn Hey douche bag, don't say that shit about diabetics.

  • @whgwcd lol i hope you are on your way to get your arm cut off because you had one too many ice cream sandwiches. fucking grow up

  • @ff7reborn I hope you die of something slow and painful. You are truly not worthy of life.

  • @ff7reborn you sir, are a cunt. and its just a fucking trailer! ha idiot!

  • @ff7reborn you spineless fuck shit talking ppl over the internet (ironic huh?) that is way over the line to go as far as wishing he has diabetes and having his feet cut off and being bed ridden...cause if he had no feet and had to lay in bed...hed have bed sores...and nobody wants that...do you want to jerk off with bob dylan in my backseat...cherry cherry gum disease...black people like harrison ford...ballistically; i dont know what that means...so please help me find my pony...thank you sir

  • @nosferatuband0 Only this guy is worthy of throwing insults at me

  • Fuck this trailer gets awesome more and more every time I watch it.

I am crying right now because I know I will never be able to have your babies because I am a man.

    You are a god.

  • Excellent trailer MAI FRIEND. The official trailer makes it look like a shitty quirky comedy or something.

Using "Hey You - Pink Floyd" was a master stroke.

  • I think this trailer is better than the official one, it captures the real essence of the plot. This is a very interesting movie.

  • Well, the characters were annoying in their own way, but the movie was good. We laughed about the Pink Floyd song. Walt could have wrote it...LOL!

  • Squid and the whale is my favorite movie. i love the realistic feel the movie has, thanks to the use of handheld 16 mm cameras instead of professional mounted 32mm cameras. and the converstaion used. Noah Baumbach is my favorite director. his dialogue is great. he understands how to make conversations and characters feel real. great movie.

  • "kafkaesque"

  • I loved that movie.

  • I Love Bernard.

  • Is this a good movie?

I saw it at big lots yesterday for 3$. but i decided to buy mozart and the whale and foxfire instead.

So would you recommend this movie?

  • The dialogs are very strong and well written, and the movie has an amazing realistic aura throughout it. I highly recommend it.

  • Yeah man. I got it at best buy 2 days ago. Way worth it.

The other guy went into greater detail, but

  • Well, that deppends. If you want to watch some stupid retard common Hollywood movie don't watch it

  • i got the DVD from big lots! :)

  • "suck my dick assman" classic

  • That was a really good movie but does any one think the older brother looks like Thurston moore of the sonic youth?

  • can u explain to me the end of he movie...like is the name of the move a metaphor? i dont get it.

  • there's a display of a squid and a whale fighting at the museum of natural history which was mentioned and visited in the movie. that's where the title comes from.

  • The squid and the whale display was something that the older brother always had a hard time looking at when he would visit the museum - it frightened him. I would say that it represents his struggle with facing the fact that his parents are going to divorce.

  • I believe that the fight scene of the squid against the whale represents his parents and their problems and quarrels which eminently lead to the divorce. For years he didn't want to accept that both of them caused the conflict, he always took his father's side. At the end he perceives both as causers and victims of their divorce and then he is able to see the big picture without taking sides or judging.

  • i got this and 'mozart and the whale' mixed up haha, was quite the hilarious misunderstanding

  • What kind of car does Bertrand drive?

  • that was an awesome movie

  • Great movie

  • MIKE KOHLBECKER

  • Wow, looks like an amazing movie! My kind of movie...Cant wait to see it.

  • what's up brother

  • it was black humor.

    good, though.

  • depressing movie

  • it's a comedy. a "dark" comedy yes, but still a comedy

  • great great movie.

  • That Noah Baumbach is knows how to make some depressing movies.

  • whats the pink floyd song in this movie?

  • hey you

  • the girl friend is one of my friends!!!! i am so proud!

  • wow depressing, but good

  • The best best part is when frank gets a new desk.

  • it's a lefty desk!

  • Great job.

  • one of the best movies ever.

  • Kafka-esque.

  • your comment is fasure

  • "Whats up my brotha?"

  • Can someone please post the whole movie?

Or however many parts it takes, one person can do one part to make up the whole movie. :)

  • Sorry I meant one part each to make up the whole movie

  • What's the song they sing at the end?

  • the swimming song by Loudon Wainwright III

  • Thanks

  • It's well there singing (Pink Floyd-Hey You.)

  • The song at the end in the museum is called street hassle, by lou reed

  • What's the youngest guys name? The one at 0:41?

  • youngest is owen kline

son of kevin kline and phoebe cates

  • Ohh ok thanks

Owen is sooooooo hot...now that I know his name

  • marvel film, marvel song (hey you)!

  • great movie

  • what was the word they used quite a bit for a person not interested in intellectual material or whatever it is..?

  • what are you trying to say . .?

  • Philistine.

  • I don´t think the squid and the whale represent anything in particular, its just that the guy is so fed up with his parents that he can only go to the museum to see that, just to forget about his family for a while. It´s his refuge.....

  • watch the movie try again..dont try 2 hard to find your philosophical answer either

  • mmm you can always make your own interpretation...besides, as far as I remember, the main character throws a line in that sense....nevertheless, it's not only about the divorce of his parents. It's also about how intellectual people completely disregard their children, and happen to think that they will keep them content by talking to them about books.

  • it doesn't have to be books. it's how society views what they consider "important" and then they view someone else who doesn't agree with them and then passing it on to their children. that's part of it

  • you have this obsession with the books

  • the squid and the whale ultimately represent him facing his fear. you cant live scared as a child forever and he acknowledges that.
