Rep Wasserman Schultz is a terrible Representative. She used every vote on illegal and legal immigration to vote against her fellow citizens and voted in favor of illegals and those that employ them. Numbersusa gives her a lifetime F rating on her voting record.
Immigration in the current huge numbers is a tax on the working poor. Millions are out of work yet she favors more and more immigration. 2010 THROW THE BUMS OUT!
I'm amazed nobody talks about the big elephant in the room. Debt is the issue. And as long as the US keeps spending so much money on the military, there is NO way out. The US needs to SLASH military spending.
At 9:52, Ms. Wasserman says this is a transparent bill. It was posted on the web site as a 'pdf" file instead of a the normal "text" file -- which meant that NO keyword searches could be done; that is NOT transparency -- it is obfucation. The $5 Billion train from LA to Las Vegas will not have an Environmental Impact Statement done for four years -- not exactly immediate stimulus. Add to it things like Honeybee Insurance and I fear we have a prescription for disaster.
Every PDF reader out there has a keyword search function. Quit being a ditto-head, and learn to think for yourself.
Here's a hint for you, Rush Limbaugh does not know what he's talking about. Crap like you tried to pull here, is why people don't take "conservatives" seriously.
I'm rapidly coming to the opinion that bipartisanship is just a waste of time at this point.
Republicans don't care about it, so why should anyone else?
Did they care about it when they were in control? NO!
So why give them the benefit of even a small consideration?
I say let them own their ultimate failure and just leave them totally out of the loop when it comes to setting policy for this country because all they want to do is divide it with more Rovian tactics.
The Democrats took control of Congress in 2006 on the premise that Republicans had overspent on the national budget. They promised America a lower, or no, deficit. Now they control the agenda. I don't understand why Democrats should be upset. They can take full credit for this program's success. The Republicans can take no credit for it's success -- that is unless someone is afraid it will fail, and they need political cover (but this is surely a moot issue since we know this will all work.)
Excuse me, RipVanWinkle, but were you perhaps alseep since 2006? You suggest that the democrats 'promised' to control the deficit, or to even lower it?
Now, I know that you may be into reading all of the Rovian revisionist history, but who just happened to be holding the all mighty veto pen in the white house since 06'?
Here's a hint that you may have missed: First name-George.
Ring any bells?
How does anyone change washington when everything they do is vetoed, genius?
Forget bipartisanship! The people have spoken: they want democrats! The only thing the democrats should do is use any good ideas that republicans might have, and forget about giving them any power.
No, the American people did with that bill. The last 8 years have shown the Democrats and Republicans continue to spend, empower the federal goverment, and screw over the taxpayer.
I agree, Obama is taking the most damaging aspects of the Bush administration (overspending) and pushing the gas pedal on it. No one wants to face the reality of what America will look like if this inflationary spending causes the dollar to lose its reserve currency status.
It is teice the amounty of the $300 Bush tax cut. Do the math. And more importantly it is based on sound economic policy. Did you know if you get a one time check you're more likely to pay off debt or save it? Only 15% of the Bush tax cut wnet back into the economy. Id you spead it out every weak it is more likely to be spent and go back into the economy. GET IT??? It STIMULATES the economy. Unless you want ot go back to the stupid Republican economic policies that got us in this mess.
Look it up - $275 Billion in Tax Cuts from the Democrats. It is amazing what you can do when stop spending $1 trillion in Iraq. Spend the money in America First!
Neither party has anything that would approximate a solution to the economic collapse. You are being sucked in again if you believe any of this bullshit. The USA is finished and you had better protect yourself. The economic downturn is just getting started and will go for at least 2009 and will be much worse in 2010. The mainstream media are not representing the problem accurately. The government is doing all the wrong things and Wall St. is doing all the wrong things.
Go, Debbie! Blast that bastard and his made-up, ass-backwards facts. I know GOP means Grand Old Party, but Grand Obstructionist Party seems to be the new meaning of GOP these days.
I never met a repubichair that I liked or had any brains. Disband the party. NOW !!! Death my slow torture to them all. Obama snap out of it and stop fucking with them. And I'd like to see you kick Unka Tom Michael Steele's ass. Beat the house nucca bullshit out of him. I'm black by the way so I can say that. It's what you get when you survive the African Holocaust. Oh yea have Bush hung by his tiny pink balls. And shake Biden. He's dead weight. Call Mike Gravel. He's old & carzy but cool. One.
Debbie nails it. If the Democrats are successful in repairing the damage done to the nation by the Republicans over the last ten years, the Repubicans are going to be swept off the political map in the next election cycle. What we know about Republicans as a minority party is they are only good at one thing, obstructionism. That's all they have left.
Rep. Bilbray is right about not getting forty-eight hours to read the completed bill. That was a rule that Democrats promoted when they took over Congress in 2006, and they've broken their own rule. Other broken 2006 Democratic promises: a five-day work week and pay-as-you-go rules. The Dems could run the Congress much better than they have.
Wasserman said best when she said, "join us". To 'Democrats bi-partisanship is Republicans "joining" them. Democrats and the President NEVER intended this to be a bi-partisan bill from the beginning. They never intended this to be an economic stimulus bill. It is a Democrat Spending Bill!
It depends on what you spend it on as to whether or not it creates real jobs. President OBama is expanding the size and cost of government which will cost each and every American more in the long run. I heard someone say that if you took the amount of this bill, and divided among every tax paying American, it would equal about $190, 000 each. Given us that kind of money and you will see unemployment go down.
So about a thou in tax cuts per person, adn the rest is infrastructure adn other stuff.
Even if only 2/3 of americans pay taxes, it's about a 4 grand debt per tax payer.
Please try to do basic division before you listen to what people spout.
It's expensive, however the national debt went from 5 tril to 10 tril in 7 years. Sudenly the republicans are screaming about 150 billion more? We spent that in iraq in 17 months?
I did not say that I had done the math or look at the numbers myself. The cost of the bill is now, with interest, over a trillion dollars. I do not know the exact number of tax payers, but I am sure it is not 2/3s. However you have missed the point.
If the Democrats want to spend this kind of money, that is fine. They have the votes to do it. Just don't call it an economic stimulus bill. They have loaded this thing with off-budget spending which has nothing to do with "saving jobs".
I am not implying anything. What she is saying is that if you don't change your position, screw you, because we are in the majority. Democrats think bipartisanship is when YOU agree with them.
Its the dems that listened to the repubs and put in tax cuts they never wanted. Are you going to deny that tax cuts were put in that the dems didnt originally want? They are even talking now of working the bill heavily in the senate to gain 3 votes.
It is not a question of being happy. It is a question of pure deception on the part of the Democrats. This is NOT an economic stimulus bill. It is nothing more than a Democrat spending bill. This spin is already beginning with this "jobs saved" nonsense. No one can prove a job was saved by this bill because it wasn't lost in the first place.
The bill ALWAYS included tax cuts. President OBama said there would be "targeted tax cuts". They did not give the Republicans anything. Democrats KNOW there had to be tax cuts if this bill was going create any real jobs.
They could have written a bill with absolutely no tax cuts at all and passed it without a single Republican vote. They did not do that because they know it would not stimulate the economy. Government spending will not fix this problem.
Oh, like I am going to believe what a Democrat says! Look, the bottom line is this. This is NOT a stimulus bill. It is a Democrat spending bill. They add a few tax cuts to make you believe that they care, and to hopefully give them some cover for their outrageous spend.
If government spending were the key, we would not be in a recession because we are spending more now than ever before.
Republicans are becoming increasingly isolated from the rest of the country. They are devolving into a regional party from the South. Most of the "red states" are states which receive more in federal aid than they give out in federal tax dollars.
If they don't want money from the federal government, then they should be forced to not accept it.
Debbie Wasserman-schultz is my favorite Congress member. She doesn't take any crap and is quite intelligent. Maxine Waters is great too. They actually care about the people instead of playing politics. She is right when saying Rep. who voted no voted against funding and jobs for their state.
you deny that the bill is online at the site provided?
Even before its passing?
He admits he may not have seen 5-10% of the bill but even that was most likely gone over as the repubs were admitting a week ago that they were thrilled to be talking with Obama about the bill they now say they were never talked to about.
what i dont understand is why did republican senator Isaakson from Georgia whine to get a home tax credit attached to the bil.... get his way... and then vote AGAINST the bill?
if that doesn't prove republicans are just about defying the president i dont know what is!
The R's are still playing politics but the country has finally moved on. People are looking more critically now for solutions not rhetoric or whining. If the R's just say NO to anything D, they will be wiped out in 2010.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Bilbray didn't sound bad. And being that he doesn't have the last 8 years attached to him it makes him harder to attack. Which means you have to attack his argument and not George bush.
Obama met with republicans many times while the bill was being crafted and they did know about the large majority of it before voting.
Even if that werent the case, hes lucky to not be attacked too close to the repubs who have been shunning the dems for the first 6 years of bush and being obstructionists for the last 2, yet now acting like the dems should stop playing the repubs game they played during their term.
And when the bill was still in the house, before the vote, there was a meeting to go over the entire bill, line by line, with the republicans in the meeting, offering their amendments, some were adopted, also some suggestions were taken out per their request. What these dim wits don't know it was on CSPAN and the nation could watch it anytime they want via their video archives!!
"Not be the party of no"?!? I am feeling sick. The Republicans are not the party of NO. They are the party of psichopaths who think all the problems of the country can be solved with a tax cut for the rich and more deregulation! I hear them and I feel like throwing up.
mr. mathews voice is annoying. Why would someone like that be the person they choose to talk about important topics? Are there any intelligent people who want to be newscasters? Geez. I'm so glad I cancelled my cable. Nothing but junk.
OMG you and me both. This is all i can handle. I liked Rachael Maddow until she got her own show now she is just too cheesy and condescending like Fox. So i just get bits and pieces on youtube and Fora,TV. Cspan. M A Y B E Cnn but they are getting bad now too.

spending is stimulus, no matter who spends it.
Just hearn a wall street analyst just explicitly say it too.
It creates jobs to spend money, and with unemployment soaring, thats what we need right now.
You really would prefer for unemployment to go past 25%? I hope your laid off then dont find a job for months so you can know what it feels like.
We need job creation and only the gov can spend enough to do it.
Spending within the country specifically, not bushes out of country spending.

That's why I only watch MSM on Youtube in small, tolerable chunks.
Other than that, I'm a C-SPAN man. No commentary necessary.

OMG you and me both. This is all i can handle. I liked Rachael Maddow until she got her own show now she is just too cheesy and condescending like Fox. So i just get bits and pieces on youtube and Fora,TV. Cspan. M A Y B E Cnn but they are getting bad now too.
