@bernardberkhout Although it's true that Goodman didn't deviate much from the melody on this tune, that's only because this was his closing theme. Having said that, I've always thought Eddie Daniels had more Shaw than Goodman in his style. He isn't just showing off. It's called improvisation, and it's what jazz is all about.
Benny was economic and all taste. Sometimes didn't improvise at all. And his solos were always balanced, spontaneous and void of showing off. In this piece he just played the tune...
then plz dosend me ur video dear i am always i search of good music iam also a musician i am , a insian classical , semiclassical , light, singer and musisian , i am a precurssionist aswell so plz do send me ur video ill definately listen to it
..........im not that good lol this guy is insane on how long he can hold his breathe wish i can play like him err i squeek and mess up do u still want me to do it
Very poor!! Can't Eddie tune that clarinet--very sharp, indeed all the way through!! Anyway, to be fair I have the CD with Gary Burton and it is simply to die for--spectaular music!
comon, can't you tell its the recording? (Video poster's fault) Gary Burton's vibes are also out of tune, its just very poor audio quality that's all, you well know that Eddie has impeccable tone.
I do hear the poor audio quality, in deference to the poster I'm glad he posted this work still. And, I don't hear the vibes as out of tune--what I hear is the sharpness of the clarinet TO the vibes. Also, just for clarification--there is no direct relationship between tone and intonation--though the words are alike.Tone is more of a quality of sound. Intonation is either sharp, flat, or in tune--no other choice. I don't take issue with Eddie's tone--it is fantastic--I love it to death!.
erm.. are you stupid... obviously you tune a clarinet
and whether it is the vibes or the clarinet that is out of tune there aint a whole lot you can do with so it would be up to the clarinet to tune to it anyway...

Eddie plays beautiful as always, I agree. It's a pity he wants to show off too much.
Eddie is exceptional, but Goodman is of a different wiorld. It took me years to find out how incredible he was. Check him.

The sound (and the pitch) is not Eddie's fault, nor the poster's. That's the way it sounded when it was broadcast.
I have the whole show on VHS, and by the end of the tape everything sounds like it's under water.

My all time favourite from Eddie Daniels, even if it is not his song. Simply beautiful. I heard it so many times and still I keep listening to it.

Just noticed Marc Johnson is playing bass. Has to be Bill Evan's former sideman. Great playing.
