I tried this recipe this weekend. it was very close but there was to much of something. I dont know if it was the ginger or 5 spice. Something really stood out to much. Thanks though.
@jima5150 Too much ginger or five spice won't kill it. Some recipes use a bit less rice wine may take the edge off. Some add more miso. Certainly a personalized recipe however, this one is an authentic one as I went direct to source for it. cheers! KtC
@mehquig Ideally used for marinade, then basting and at serving, for dipping. Use as any BBQ sauce. It is often used in variable Chinese type dishes too such as a Char Siu pork stir-fry.
Very yum and a must to try. You can buy it prepared but better homemade. cheers Andy!
That looks incredible! I have almost none of the ingredients on hand, but that can be changed. I suspect it could be near lethal as a baste on a slow grilled pork butt.
@anmoose Hi Moosie! I just enjoyed the sauce on a pork shoulder on the fire. I refuelled the coals once but just had it the foil thingy at the side. I was enjoying the sauce most of last week. Big Yum!
@papercuts777 I got everything at that T&T out on Riverside. I have seen the paste though at Food Basics. The recipe does make a large batch so there is enough for next time too. Thanks cuts! KtC
@ArynneVengeance Hi Arynne! You could substitute the rice wine with a dry sherry, white wine or gin. If your concern is with alcohol then use white grape juice or apple juice. Rice wine vinegar can also be used. cheers, KtC
@psychodelicdragon I suppose other than an airplane ride you will have to make some for yourself lol However, if you decide on the airplane ride I will pick you up at the airport and crank up the BBQ right away. cheers! KtC
@KasCooks The bowl was looking lonely up in the cupboard so I asked him to join us for the finale. Thank you Kas! Have a great day and keep kooking! KtC
@escafallen lol yep, I thought two vids were required for this this combo. Such a favourite sauce of mine I could just film char siu BBQ all the time. enjoy! KtC
@fezan84 I really enjoy it. Took some time to get a correct recipe though as too many screw around with food colouring (yuk). Direct from the source htis one. Thank you and cheers, KtC
