Thanks I've followed your instructions. The drive I have installed is a Hitachi 250GB Travelstar. Unfortunately the write speed is in the region of kb/s not mb/s. How do I speed it up -- any ideas?
question ?? In order to upgrade the main HD ( C drive ) is their any formating that needs to be done or does the main OS stay on the computer and all i need to do is switch HD.. plug and play ??
I'm curious, if you move your single primary HD to the 2nd bay and install a new, bigger HD in the primary bay, would you need to ghost/image the data of your original drive into the new HD or can a dv9000 boot from the second HD bay?
I'm having to replace my primary drive. I bought a new one and system recovery dvds specific to my model of laptop; DV9820ea. is it just a case of replacing hard drives and booting up with recovery discs to have it up and running again?
if i replace the old harddrive will it still have my information and then put in the new harddrive but then use an external enclosure with the old harddrive if you understand all that please tell me asap
How do I know which kind of hard drive will my laptop need? I have a HP Pavilion Dv6000 series. I have 80 GB total. I want to get a higher one which is a 320 GB. Please answer anyone.
imma buy me one and add it to my hp pavilion dv 9910us and also did you know nvidia gefroce go 7150m 64 mb will run crysis at good frames at lowest settings
I have added a 2nd HD to the same model Laptop but the OS will not recognize it. I have dual 160GB SATA drives and will only see the primary and not the secondary. Setup screen is no help. Any ideas??
where did you purchase your extra hard dive...mine got the click of death and im having trouble finding the new hard drives that dosent have the pins...thanks -tj
hoi ik heb ook een hp dv9000 en een 2.5 samsung harde schijf maar waar kan ik zo een connector en case vinden in nederland ik heb er al dagen naar opzoek.......
It depends on the drive manufacturer. 500GB (2.5" 9.5mm-high) is the largest you can place in right now. With some 500GB drives, all you have to do is jumper the drive from 3.0Gb/s to 1.5Gb/s to make it work. On some, you have to use the new 500GB in the primary HDD bay as the boot drive.
cool, i actually live in canada, how much would this exact caddy(dv9000) cost including shipping to Calgary, AB? and do you have a recommended manufacturer 500gb hd for durability and reliability?
That one is probably empty. Did you ever hear of a partition? Anyways, I'll explain:
We have a 320gb hard drive, and we can partition that hard drive into 2 times 160. So the computer thinks there are 2 hard drives, but actually it is the same.
Or you can have an 80gb hard drive (or what ever you have) and of that, about 10gb for the recovery. That way the computer thinks there is an hard drive for recovery and an hard drive for user space. 70gb is then left for you. Hopefully helped you..
Get your vista disk, or burn one. Then, format your whole hard drive (this removes ALL data) and format it to NTFS or FAT32. When you choose FAT32 it is almost impossible to go back to NTFS. I would chose NTFS. Then, get a copy of Windows XP. Be sure to have a driver cd from hp for your laptop too.
put in the vista disk, and go too the boot setup. go too boot setup and place the dvd drive on 1st position. now restart.
now wait till the whole vista thing is loaded, and format your drives.
Fuck. Why the need for a harddrive caddy HP? Now I have to go out an buy a stupid caddy JUST so I can use my 2nd HD. Shame on you HP.

No idea why access is that slow. The controller should be able to support much faster than that.

What about grounding before opening your computer? Is that not important anymore? Guy never mentioned it.

Thanks Efi4ltis!
For most of the dv9000 series, you will have to slow a 3.0Gb/s SATA drive down to 1.5Gb/s.

DeAthZReApEr760 2 years ago
You can use and drive that is 2.5", SATA interface, with a height of 9.5mm
newmodeUS 2 years ago
@newmodeUS How do I know what that is?
DeAthZReApEr760 2 years ago
you will see it in the "specifications" of the drive when shopping for one.
Right now, all 2.5" SATA drives are 9.5mm. It's only the new 1TB and 750GB drives that are taller than 9.5mm and won't fit in your laptop

@newmodeUS. My laptop only says Pavilion tx2000, but HP's driver support page has 2000ed, 2000ez, 2000z & 2000CTO. Should I select CTO do you think?

If i buy a different harddrive to replace, then will it raise the ghz processor like for gaming??? please reply im very interested in the topic.

Hello DeerektorJ,
Replacing the hard drive won't increase the Processor ghz.
If you use a faster hard drive, you could increase access time.
newmodeUS 2 years ago
But what will increase my processor ghz?
DeerektorJ 2 years ago
get a new processor or overclock the existing one

Unless you order the laptop from HP with a 2nd hard drive, the 2nd hard drive bay is empty.

Isn't the second hard drive already filled with the HP recovery software? Or is that second bay empty?
