I wonder how long ago it was people saved before they felt they deserved to buy something. Now, everybody lives month to month like slaves to bankers to live in a home they share ownership with, to drive cars they share ownership with and the list goes on. I personally am scared shitless that people think it is a good thing to promote this way of life. We've gone from 80% self employed to 10%, that in my mind is the slavery ratio of the country increasing fast, at the same time debt climbs.hmmmm
Websters Communism: a theory advocating elimination of private property. Its advocating community owned/funded property being loaned to certain people. Selling 1 lot/house takes 1 off the private market, converts it to community owned. Def B: a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed. Even if a "community" of donors arent' on the title as lender/owner there is imminent domain, available as needed. You have free will to buy a h4h home?Nope.
Maybe you could help to curb poverty, by NOT taking peoples tax money that is given to you through "grants" or whatever bullshit name used. You do realize that if those people donated their money/time straight to the poor person who bought a home built by an efficient PROFESSIONAL home builder they would wind up with twice the value of home. And it won't fall apart like Habitat homes do. Habitat is a disgusting program meant to actually promote poverty through socialism/communism.
"leed platinum" is just a sticker you pay to get. All houses built today could be as efficient as leed platinum, but you wouldnt' know it until somebody pissed away hundreds of dollars for a "label". Chrony-Capitalists are trying to take this industy over. Building "bunk science" Corporation is trying to profit, Habitat wants to grow because the people that run it make damn good money doing it. Want volunteers to build your car? Airplane? Why homes for the poor...they can't afford lawyers.
I am guessing that 175,000 doesn't include labor and the like. If you were to 'BUY' a house like this (I mean, as on the regular market, not through habitat which has greatly reduced costs through labor and donations) it would be at least 250,000. Additionally there is no garage (as is the case with most habitat houses), and most people want a garage, usually 2 car, so again that ups the cost. Still things keep moving in the right direction at least.
Corporation doing something to be good? LOLOLOOLOLOL Do you think we are idiots? That home will be unhealthy to live in w/in 6 months, don't worry though, you are only killing poor people.
@dragonamt When people just get together and do this stuff, it's in the right direction. When you need some "nonprofit" crooked orginization like Habitat for Humanity, teamed up with the federal gubment, and a building "tard science" corporation, you get poor people becoming guinea pigs and test dummies for home designs that were laughed away 50 years ago. HforH and BSC are Chrony Capitalists, working together to promote govt funded, govt built homes. Thanks you fucking communists!
@HomeEnergyNow Dude, your either trolling or a misinformed conspiracy theorist. I've volunteered with my local Habitat for humanity, they are great. Besides being tax exempt, as it stands Habitat receives absolutely nothing from the federal government. The 'poor people' actually BUY the house with BOTH sweat equity and REAL MONEY, only labor is free by volunteers and others in the program (well partly, a few parts of the building process have to be done by contractors).
@HomeEnergyNow The costs to the home buyer are only the non-donated materials and the small amount of work that had to be contracted out without donation (in this case, yes, that cost might include the LEED certification). The house is 'purchased' before construction so it does not harm houses on the market. Home-buyers have a 0 interest mortgage and must take home care and maintenance classes weekly during the build.
@HomeEnergyNow The Habitat program locally (to me) now only builds energy star certified homes because the houses are designed for lifetime cost, and with this in mind all are built handicap accessible or ready by code. Also 'rehab' projects are preferred for their lower cost to the home owner and lower environmental and land use impact. The few habitat employees are paid usually through local donations and local grants.
@dragonamt grants are "gubment" checks. It is international, I doubt there is only local "gubment" involvment. "voluteers" build a house.....do you think it will hold "market" value? Or de-value everything around it? "energy star" is a scam, the federal govt. bought energy star, it has zero value, when tested by the fbi they placed their energy star stamp on a deisel powered alarm clock.... I know habitat employees, they left private hard working construction to get paid better for doing less.
@HomeEnergyNow Well, I'd like to know what exactly in the world you think is not a scam, because it sounds like you think just about everything is (except probably whatever it is you are selling). And yes, the houses hold market value and are some of the nicest houses in the city. THINK ABOUT IT. All the houses still have to pass the exact same inspections as any other house, and I know from experience sometimes stuff does have to be fixed to pass inspection.
@HomeEnergyNow There is also no race affiliation, I have on houses for people of several different races. NONE of the houses I worked on were for unemployed people who's only income was welfare. Also, although a Christian organisation there are no rules about religious practice. I am atheist and at no point was I asked about any religious beliefs or was I ask to take part in any prayers or anything of the sort. I think that pretty much covers every myth bout habitat, all of which are false.
@dragonamt Who ever said anything about race or religion? Nobody offers a 0% mortgage, somebody is paying somebody, and I would bet banks are behid this whole scam. I know the good people that put the nails in, but I have yet to meet somebody with brains working for habitat. LEED, Energy Star, Building Science corporation are all using this program to promote themselves as if a non-leed/estar/bsc house can't be 10 times better (many are). They are building too tight, risking poor peoples health
@HomeEnergyNow I don't disagree that LEED itself is controversial, but so is just about everything (to someone), nor can I vouch for the ethics every habitat affiliate. But when you start throwing around words like communism your comments lose credibility in my view, nobody forces anyone to use LEED Certification or forces people to purchase Habitat for Humanity homes, it is free will, not communism. Whatever, you can think what you want, it is a free country, but you sounded misinformed.
@dragonamt The federal govt forces LEED accreditation on all federally funded const jobs I have seen here. Habitat forces energy star I believe, which just uses the existing HERS rating system and converts it for "the lame person" to 5 stars. Codes have become spend a dollar to save a dime, and e-star starts at <10% overall savings vs. a home to 2006 code. hasn't become real popular in residental const. for a reason. Same with the spray foams they run on promotion/govt, not substance or demand
@dragonamt Maybe you could help them save money and buy a house like the rest of us? If you all spent that time extra at your day jobs you could give them that money and the poor recipient would end up with more value. Why involve habitat at all? If you can't round up that kind of money around your town w/out them then there is a problem, what exactly makes people choose habitat over just doing it themselves and cutting out a sketchy middle man organization?
@dragonamt And obviously you don't know much about construction of homes, or you would know how sub-par habitat quality is. No greater disrespect to an industry with some very very talented people than to come it and say "a bunch of office jocky voluteers can do that!" LOL No you can't, and no you shouldnt. Here is the scam, somebody somewhere is borrowing from a bank, the house will fall apart, the bank is guaranteed money through habitat, behind most big gubment involved scams is banks
@dragonamt The home won't just fall apart because of lack of experience, (almost every part of building a home is an art, and only ignorant rookies would think otherwise) but also because why do you think those families are poor? 1/100 may have just had bad luck, 99/100 trash everything they own, including houses. Yay for banks, because I guarantee somebody like our govt. is insuring those loans. Want to do good deeds w/out ANY risk of scam, just DO THEM WITHOUT BEING LED LIKE A DOG!!!
How many barrels of oil were used in the creation of all that foam? Its great the way people spend a dollar to save a dime in energy, especially when you are using other peoples money.......isn't that right Habitat for Humanity? 175k for what 450 sqft? LEED, BPI, Energy Star(HERS)are just a bunch of gubment check milking companies, I would know I am one. One motor breaks, no fresh air, that house becomes dangerous.....way to go....save energy screw health.
I still don't get the insulation on the inside of the basement concept. Where is the thermal break between the chilled basement walls and Warm upper walls and floors???
no comments, lol. i saw a cool video called build it bigger, rebuilding Greensgurg. Now that was cool, all the buildings were greeen and they built allot of LEED Platinum buildings. i missed the first episode tho, and i cant find the dvd. but i suggest to everyone to watch it : )

What did you use to attach the 2" foam with, and did you tape each layer or just the exterior?
