This, like everything of Elizabeth's is just such good singing. Her technique was so solid and she obviously worked at her art, not just screaming out high notes like a lot of modern singers. She was a true exponent of the Bel Canto technique which is such a hard thing to do. Those who know her work regard her as one of the greats, and she deserves to be even better known. A real loss to those who understand what opera is about.
@RossiniSoprano yes she does.. it's a perfect technique, when you tend to swallow the tongue while singing, or you can't open your throat enough and your voice sounds tight.. ;)
cthramm !! surprise , surprise - anyone with a half as---
techique was better than Callas -as for Sutherland ,she
never sang she yodeled one sound was the same as another like falling into vat of goo.Every role sound was the same, only costume dress was different .But they
were more clever than most in recognizing their audience
was the same -ignorant of the art of singing and
of the music being sung -but long on "diva " worship .
Stunning! I have to say the best rendition I have heard, and the best Soprano voice I have heard, probably ever! She really has wonderful technique and range. I have a new goal to achieve now!
really good dinamics!!... Awesome!!! relly good acting!!! awesome 16th notes!!!!its just AMAZING!!! WOW!!!! CONGRATS!!! really goood job...(((theres no 10 stars,if not i would giv them to you)))
It's really sad to know that she is dead. And she sings very well. Though the quality of the voice is a little thin for my taste, the technique is amazingly controlled.
This was perfect, as I can see it....I have done it and I have never done it even half as well. Her variations are thrilling. How sad that she died. Does anybody know how old she was when she died? Was it Cancer? How terribly sad.dddddd
Although I love her singing, she does have some shakey notes. Sumi Jo and Dessay are pure professionals who look the part and are excellent actresses. I do admire Ms.Parcells singing, though. =)
WOW!!! What a glorious sound! I can't believe people are trying to compare this expert technical facility to the likes of Jo and Dessay. Thank you to the one who posted this; I received a fabulous voice lesson today from this video!
She is superb. I was lucky enough to see Ms. Parcells perform Olympia at MOT a few years back. It was unforgettable. She died way too young, she is truly missed.
No, you are wrong. We do have falsetto. I can mix my falsetto with my head voice, or I can sing it separately. When I mix it with my head voice, it is quite big, but I can't go as high. When I sing it pure, unmixed, I can sing up past double high C.
Women have falsettos. Men have whistle registers. They're voice registers - it has nothing to do with what you're carrying between your legs. In falsetto, your vocal cords are opened just as they are in chest voice, only the outside of the cords vibrate rather than the entire cord itself. Why wouldn't women be able to do that? And for men with whistles -- check out Adam Lopez, Tireh, and Nicola Sedda.
I was looking for Beverly Sills clips when I stumbled upon Elizabeth Parcells. This is absolutely flawless technique, and what a shining personality! I've been reading the posts for her other videos, & I have to say I'm shocked - comparing her to Callas? Apples to apples, folks. This is seamless, bright, "totally effortless," simply beautiful singing. Any vocal music lover, whether the preference is for the likes of Nilsson, Callas, or even Emma Kirkby, can't deny that this is a beautiful voice.
THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION! remember it is possible for more than one singer to be amazing. its not one or the other. and for anyone to put down callas, wow. also american sopranos include a lot of amazing singers, dont forget rosa ponselle.
Sutherland is NOT an american soprano thank you. And this woman is not better than them, well maybe better than Sills, but she holds no candle to Joan!
She is excellent, and her voice was perfect in her best
days. The angel has gone, but she should be kept in our hearts forever. She is A REAL ARTIST!Compared with her,Callas,Sutherland,Sills, etc were just a swarm of falsely, overly boosted roaring catamarans.

Interesting. What I realy liked was the "legato" between the last two notes, so that the last note was not forced. Nice.

robotic movements= a 'doll' she explains in the begining...
KTeKanawa 3 years ago
Beautiful, pure, no manierisme, a real loss to the world of music.
The perfection of the old days technic with today's sound. Not even Dessay can compete with that kind of beauty...
freespiritQC 3 years ago 12
Great voice but her movements intentionally robotic? Because if it is then it is really funny.
BluefalconJAR 3 years ago
Yes, because the character of Olymia *is* a robot.

She is actually a doll... hence the aria being known as the Doll Aria.
