Finding the files on the net should be a piece of cake though. Google "download Touhou games" ---without the quotation marks--- and see what you find.

It won't take more than a year if you do what I did:

Start playing a fairly text-based game in Japanese (I played the Gyakuten Saiban series on DS). Use WWWJDIC to look up words/kanjis. At first it's slow to the point of awkwardness, but if you attempt to read at full speed whenever possible your reading speed should approximately triple by the end of the game.

Then, start reading a VN like 信天翁航海録 and that website will become a joke. Oh, and use rikaichan.

Hard to say, as EoSD doesn't really keep records of it. I have around 450 encounters for Eternal Meek and 300 for Scarlet Gensokyo, but the game doesn't count encounters if you restart/quit halfway, which I usually do. So the actual numbers are far higher, no doubt in the thousands.
