I been watching your Top 10 Samples all week... great shows... I love your style... and you have lots of knowledge... thank you... and I will be watching your other videos too...
god i hope hip hop doesn't end up like disco with these new dumber and dumber artists. were running out of musical excuses hip hop. get real...again please
Other notables that sampled the Hihache drums were L.L. Cool J - Jingling Baby original mix and X Clan - Shaft's Big Score. Someone may have mentioned this already, but I'm just now viewing the video and haven't read all the comments.
Funk, I'd like to know what vinyls you have up on the wall to the right. It looks like you have a platinum 45 and a platinum record. I must be wrong, right?
@TheWaxMinister Those are both Gold records earned by my late aunt Carol Freund. If you wanted to you could see her on the DVD "Billy Joel: Last Play at Shea" where they briefly show her in the Home Run label lineup. She had dozens and left them to all her nieces and nephews. The 7" is for "My Life" a/k/a the original Bosom Buddies theme song and the album is The Stranger.
@funktuall Whoa, that's cool! Have you ever tryed playing 'em? If they're not too heavy for the platter that is.. I always wondered if they actually could be played.
I also thought the platinum and gold records were given to either the label, producer or the main artists, in this case, Billy Joel?
Hey Funktuall: Did you know that The Lafayette Afro Rock Band began in Long Island? They began in Central Islip, NY\, but recorded in France. I'm working on a comp of pure funk from all over Long Island.
@funktuall Yo your videos are absolutely insane!! Your energy and knowledge is unbelievable, I have been watching these since 08 and I have nothing negative to say you do an awesome job. Wondering tho......Who is you favorite Hip Hop producer not who you think is the best but who is your fav? Also what would it take for you to come to Winnipeg, Canada LOL
@funktuall The 3rd Bass sample in the Emotions track was only obvious to people who listened to 3rd Bass. Since it was in the Gas Face track one of their two most popular videos at the time you may be right.
Raekwon's a Curtis Mayfield fan too. He referred to the music before Hip Hop, and his DJ put a Curtis Mayfield song on. He even sang some words himself. This was a month ago when he was in Holland. It was awesome. This video's great as always. I like the Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuttin - drumbreak.
you hit the nail on the head........i've purchased many, many albums just to get songs that have featured on your show and ended up with hours and hours worth of great music. you always give other people credit for finding all this great music, but you need to take the credit for putting it all together in easy to manage packages. keep em coming!!
Clifford Brown. The best thing that came out of Wilmington, Delaware. I didn't know a guy raised a couple blocks away from my house had songs worth sampling. Such a hot lick.
Don't forget that Beastie Boys "Dedication" record off Hello Nasty. I just went to play it when you mentioned old school dedications, then realized that I left it in my old car's CD player when I bought a new one last week. Fuck.
Office Space. hellz yeah.
