Movie is pure SF but not viable as when it was written, the idea of tectonic plates were not taken into account somehow..so the earth breaking into two...highly improbable.
I love this film, it has everything a B movie feature should have.
destination moon is another incredible film, it looks cheap and clumsy nowadays but it was filmed in 1950 before man went into space so all the science dialogue parts were all a best guess about what to expect on a journey to the moon.
Plus its in that insane technicolor which always looks trippy if your a stoner anyway.
Oh brother; "Life imitating art" as CO2 sequestration ‘splodes in Saskatchewan as CO2 bubbles to the surface killing cows and pets (per story 1-11-2011 in the Winnipeg Free Press titled: "Carbon injected underground now leaking, Saskatchewan farmer's study says")!
Listening to the scientific jargon including caps, shafts and so forth along with total abandonment to logic because of money, I hope the BP incident in the Gulf of Mexico does not have a similar conclusion as this movie! If you look under Google videos, you can see the entire movie.
And just a thought for some earlier posts, why don't you other wackos put your political ramblings on a political website and leave these pages for people who enjoy movies and have real questions and coments. I tire of the nonsense, stupidity, and vitriol.
Oh, and by the way. When cursing at me for pointing out your inanity, please censor yourself. Anyone can get their point across without vulgarity. Besides my children and many others have access to these pages
Doesn't this movie end in the creation of another moon orbiting the Earth? I seem to remember that watching this film as a little kid. Of course, it seems like it's been 100 years since viewing it, so my memory may be off. But I vaguely recall this weird shot of the surviving humans looking up through a chasm somewhere to see the second moon forming in the smokey sky. If that's accurate, and not just a dream I had, that's a pretty dramatic ending.
FOR REAL!?!?! I hope you're telling the truth, because I've been wanting to get a decent copy of this for ages. I think they (hopefully PARAMOUNT) is probably doing this to cash in on "2012". But, wow!! I first saw it on TV back in '69 (I was 6!!), and have seen it all thru the '70s--then they stopped airing it. "Crack In The World"--DVD....finally.
I went on Amazon to verify it, and its on TUESDAY, JULY 27. I forgot the company's name (it's NOT Paramount itself--shame), but a couple of pre-reviewers say that the quality is decent. Man, I'm gonna hound my local FYE for this DVD. (Hell, "Navy VS. The Night Monsters" too, while I'm at it.). WOW. 4 weeks away. C'mon, July 27th!
Amazing! I didn't realise how long Americans have been obsessed with cataclysmic destruction, and end of the world scenarios. Truly a psychotic collective obsession the Americans have with disaster. The list of films they've made with disasters and end of the world scenarios is endless!.
@alpidistra, and how a great many voted obama into piwer precisely becase they think him the anti-christ, and would thus bring to pass the end of the world... and their oh so convenient invention "rapture".. wherein they would be saved before the end of the world with plagues and disasters,
"Suppose the Macedo trench splits open under the ocean? A crack a thousand miles long, bringing superheated magma in contact with the ocean... Earthquakes, tidal waves, mass destruction on an apocalyptic scale! "
Haha I lolled at the actual crack on the map they had drawn. "The oceans will fall into the crack and the steam will tear the Earth apart". Lmao, people in the 60's were really retarded.
"A man, his wife, and the man she used to love" living together underground. What could possibly go wrong?

So the world is ending. Get over it. Man up. Grow a pair sissy pants. I bet Dana Andrews was thinking "There not paying me enough for this".

The original Deepwater Horizon. Whoever made this trailer wasn't thinking very hard, it's a spoiler for the entire movie.

In the late 60s, ABC televised this whenever they had nothing better to show, which was often.
