@Tylzen It would seem that you have the unfortunate misunderstanding that anarchism is anti-organization. Not the case, and organizing to defend yourselves from a groups intent on subjugating you is certainly an anarchistic principal. In fact, revolution in an anarchist sense can quite accurately be seen as self defence against the existing state. Preventing new states would simply be a continuation of that project. Peace! :)
As an "anarchist", I take the term at face value with appeal to its etymology - lit. "no rulers", a thoroughly "horizontal" society.
This is the historical root of "anarchism" as a series of political movements, which were "social" in orientation (or with an understanding of "individualism" rooted in society.)
The perception of anarchism as "magical individualism" unable/unwilling to account for society is a later phenomenon - ex. "anti-state capitalism."
@OuTofJoY I am fully aware of that, and if I were in a debate with someone, I would ask them to clarify what they meant about the fundemental terms, and how they define them.
Part of the problem with discussing "anarchism" (and to lesser degrees, politics in general) is that it degenerates into "semantics hell" very easily. Terms like "capitalism", "socialism", "the state" and "anarchy" are used so differently by people that half of the time people are talking past each other.
I used to be an anarchist, now I am a democratic socialism. The only viable method for an anarchist society I could see working would be similar to Leon Trotsky's idea of permanent revolution. If an anarchist revolution did occur I would risk my life for it because I like the ideal even if it fails. Besides, to quote Johnny Hobo, "I do my own dishes now and I'll do my own dishes then. You know its always the ones who don't who ask that fuckin' question."
Wouldn't it be much more logical and expedient to simply euthanize certain criminal elements? I never understood why we insist on keeping serial rapists and murderers behind bars for 40 years and turning them loose for a "life sentence" to strike again, if you're going to cage them like feral beasts you may as well euthanize them as such.
Silly bleeding heart liberals, the criminals would suffer less if you humanely euthanized them.
Anarchism isn't about abolishing organization. Anarchism (from my capitalist perspective) is about ending monopoly and instituting private property in place of state fiat. Can't watch the whole video at the moment, but I will finish it later and probably respond.
@HeyRuka@Tylzen I am not talking about monopoly in the sense of "oh noes one big firm!", but that of a legal grant of privilege. The state is a violently enforced monopoly, so asking a monopoly to end monopolies is kind of silly.
@t3hsauce "not talking about monopoly in the sense of "oh noes one big firm!", but that of a legal grant of privilege. The state is a violently enforced monopoly"
why wont a private monopoly use violence?
the state is a monopoly only to an extent. the legal grant of privilege is only temporarily allocated for a pre determined time, has limited scope, and is subject to performance review in the form of elections.
where are the in built mechanisms of balance for a monopoly within anarchy?
