I mean, I love FiM to no end, but honestly, G3 is your only enemy. If Lauren Faust wanted you to hate G1 she wouldn't have made FiM one giant homage to G1.
Obviously not, else you wouldn't lump it in with G3. G1 was pretty amazing, and I'd even go so far as to say that Rescue at Midnight Castle was (for it's time) even better than Friendship is Magic is now.

And yes, A Very Minty Christmas IS awesome, but I prefer Dancing in the Clouds and Friends are Never Far Away simply because they strike me as a continuation of the MLPTales episode "Up Up and Away", one of my top five faves from MLP Tales.
I definitely prefer MLP:FiM because the characterization of the main cast makes the characters more unique and have more identifiable traits, I don't have that feeling from the old one as much (I have only seen a few episodes though). But none the less I think the old show was actually pretty good with a good bunch of its stories.
Great editing and lip-synching--especially for the spoken lines and chorus with the Sea Ponies!! Man, I forgot I'd even seen this as a kid until I watched your video! MLP had very memorable/creative villains (whenever the ponies were in distress there was always a weight to their helplessness; probably because they had those big clunky bodies that it seemed could realistically suffer under duress)... Is it bad I want a grimdark reboot, just for the lulz of completely contrasting FiM?
@FruitsBasketCast Sort of! The first two pilots ('Escape from Midnight Castle' and 'Escape from Catrina' the second being the one in this PMV) at least were animated by a Japanese animation group. You probably know their anime works, namely being Detective Conan/Case Closed, or maybe Romeo x Juliet. Those are the only two I can remember off of the top of my head.

The original cartoon had some great episodes like the two specials and the stories written by Michael Reaves among others. However, it also had its fair share of cringe-worthy episodes like "The Glass Princess." The new series has yet to produce a truly terrible episode which I must applaud Lauren Faust and her staff for.
@Al1701 While I respect your opinion. I'll have to disagree with the idea that FiM has no truly terrible episodes. With the exception of 'The Stare Master" and "Sisterhooves social' I really think that the majority of episodes featuring the 'Cutie Mark Crusaders' are terrible. The reason for this is that they are mostly about the CMC being impatient about getting their cutie marks and getting into trouble while doing that.
@Al1701 (continuing from last post) These CMC episodes always end with the lesson that the CMCs should be patient and wait for their cutie mark to come. They always forget this lesson and then they repeat the same mistake they did before without ever learning anything. I can barely watch CMC episodes.
@Jerepasaurus I grew up with the old MLPs, I was obsessed with them, but I agree with TheRealEricLester. These old cartoons are pretty awful compared to the new series. They have nostalgic value, yeah, but the animation/voices/etc were just shocking. The new series is funny/clever, and put together a lot better.

Lets be fair now: Friendship is Magic IS a superior series.
HOWEVER the original will STILL be what I think of when I hear My Little Pony.
I respect the original ponies for their nostalgia value, but I tried rewatching them and it really is just a bad show. There are some childrens shows and movies that came out of the 80's that aged well, and that we can still appreciate as adults.... My Little Pony just... isn't.

Rainbow Dash is Firefly, the personality and pegasus of her, and then Fluttershy is Posy, Pinkie Pie is Surprise, etc. She adored the original series which is why she wanted to bring the series to a wider audience.
She did enjoy the toys more, but she's remarked several times on the nostalgia the old series brings her.

You did awesome especially considering that you had about a 20 minute epiosde to work with. This song really makes sense for Catrina and Rep. I can so see their relationship like this. I loved it!! and the seaponies singing along was just genius.
