  • STEVE VAI is a MUCH BETTER guitarist than this stinky assholed, pretentious bitch.

  • She sounds like an excellent teacher for classical. I really like how clearly she communicates

  • She began the Guitar department at Julliard.

  • Trippy video.... great guitar work

  • doesnt she teach at juliard?

  • Great artist. Too bad the video is so bad you can't see what she's doing. What a waste of this great interview. I have several of her albums and she's the best.

  • what is the piece played in the credits?

  • AMAZING AND FLAWLESS. THANK YOU SHARON

  • what is the name of the piece she starts playing at 0.29?

  • @asturia55 Vals no#4 by Agustin Barrios Mangore

  • @samirhossain Thanks.......It is an absolutely beautiful piece.......and Sharon is a great artist........T

  • Not only is she an amazing guitarist, but listen to how well she speaks. An art in it's own right that rarely is mastered.

  • what's the piece at the very beginning? i've heard it before...

  • @tysondigital

Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Francisco Tárrega

  • Publicity for Aspen Music Festival, publicity for Sharon's Dreams CD.

Otherwise, only what any reasonable teacher would teach!

  • She's so Bella and Virtuosa! ;)

  • My favorite classical guitarist! particularly her performance of Rodrigo!

  • A helpful lesson. I think Ms. Isbin is reaching a lot of people who may have given up.

She has changed the world of classical guitar in a huge way, and yet is generous in sharing what is her path. Thank you for sharing this interesting video.

  • that gorilla grip is one of the most genius things i've ever seen. i have "hitch hiker's thumb" and so i've always had trouble properly positioning it. she fixed it for me

  • There will ALWAYS be someone better than you, whether due to better dedication, musculature, teaching, innate talent... it's not always quantifiable. Martial Arts are similar, but cultivate calm and acceptance of one's limitations while still tying to improve as best one can. Be like Steven Seagal.

I understand that it's frustrating for some people to be better than you (or be perceived as better) when you put so much time and effort into your craft. Sometimes that's just the way of it.

  • shes hot

  • One thing that wasn't mention in the video and I notice, was the angle of the guitar to the body, which seems to be an a 45 degree, looking straight ahead. Is that important? Great video Sharon...

  • Where have I been, under a stone? I never have heard of Sharon, but looking in Wiki, her bio reads like an "All World" Person and a 1st Lady of Classical (Guitar) music.

I have never heard or seen such beautiful sounds from a beautiful women too!

  • Skills a) Where is “to put this together”? It ends up with that elemental bluegrass-like and “her infinite possibilities” Let me explain this to you: You play Torre Bermeja and how. May be you get a Bachelor in Guitar If she does, I would like to watch it. But she talks like PhD You listen Ernesto Bitetti’s version and learn about skills. Instead, you get “Asturias at the white house”(another elemental piece) It appears that her skills are good for being very well connected to influential people

  • “Obviously”only for you. I see no producers’script. Do you? Nor request for verbal/video resume.Only 2 questions1) Typical things with students, Good and bad habits she says Only the bad ones are described. No a word for good habits That shows a very insecurity personality I.e. supported by others’ flaws 2) She was asked about nails She extends the answer to her whole “Me and Me” again and again. AND THE STUDENTS? Oh! Her CD “Dreams of a World” has a lot to do with it. Skills: Next

  • she's paid the cost to be the boss...........

  • Sharon does not have "Tone Flaws." The tones that are a bit harder are just a part of her expression. Just look at how she does everything. She's an artist and the subtleties of how she plays would be an extension of her personality. Why can't you artistically ignorant snobs understand this? Is she too aggressive in her attack? I don't think so. I think it all depends on how much of a pussy you are.

  • Haters? No haters here. It seems a pretty insecure and defensive position. Career is a working trajectory that is developed over the years on a specific field or subject. It is going bad or good depending upon AUTHENTIC ACHIEVEMENTS and not by influent connections. Understand that music is very competitive but the principle remains the same. Only great good achievers are important enough to get haters. This comment sounds like from herself

  • I deleted my compliments upon Recuerdos de la Alhambra after watched this video: Ok, she plays fine like any many other classic performers. Nothing beyond average. typical things she works on? she stresses on obvious beginners flaws. It shows insecurity and has reasons for that. What I see is ME, ME, and ME. Actually no one care to whom you played or studied with nor where or whom you are connected to. What it counts is the performance AT THE GUITAR. Nothing else. Less talk and more playing

  • @lacanciondelacolita - you do realize that was [obviously] scripted by the producers to have her put out her credentials. This is very standard in any sort of tutorial, to give your background. It's a verbal/video resume'. As to your 'assessment' of her skills, a) she again was asked to put this together, and b) it appears that many, many influential people in the industry disagree quite strongly with you, including folks like Segovia...good luck with that!

  • @neuromandw Skills b)10 hours a week-training as “INTENSIVE”? Segovia will consider that a joke. You learn this: To play seriously you must study and practice at least 5 hours A DAY. It appears that your influential industry people are in the “Oops I did it again” business. Now you learn this: To understand what I am teaching you; you seriously learn to play classic guitar…Good luck with that.

  • @lacanciondelacolita I think they mean, if you want to be a world class player, but then how many of those are there?

  • @1940manny Respectfully, she does not say that at all. How many? More than we can image. YouTube now makes possible to expose many (and counting) great players who are unknown due to a lack of contacts, money, etc. Now, anyone can be a mediocre player (like she is) as long as it is shown as a mediocre. The problem is when mediocrity is displayed and promoted as “excellence” like she does; only because she’s having influential contacts.

  • @lacanciondelacolita Just to point out....she's talking about a training course, NOT daily practice.....

  • @musicbeyondall CRUCIAL POINT: What students need to learn, understand, and assimilate (in training courses) is the acquisition of the HABIT of practicing EVERY DAY and IN HOURS. So, a training course necessarily means exactly that. This is the nature of the instrument. You can follow as she said. BUT it is quite far for being serious and intensive as she claims. Anyways, and just to point out… This interview is not about students AT ALL. IT IS ABOUT HER AND ONLY HER

  • Dear Sharon Isbin:

I would love to listen from you Torre Bermeja. Do you have a version of it?

  • most of the time sharon isbin produces pretty musical and decent interpretations. but sorry, i dont think she should be giving tone tips. not really her forte, especially first string.

  • I'm sorry, but, do you really think that she is even in the top 20 classical guitar greats? I don't! She's got some chops, but no attractive tone, and no individuality. She sounds neutral. She's more of a classical guitar celeb for I don't know what reason.

  • Yo...HACK...gignut, you need to stay with Jay Z and not listen to real music...whoa.

I think you said that just to get comments.

he he he...so I am suckered in...but hey...you don't know what a guitar is supposed to do. I saw her...she is no Jay Z (thank the gods)

  • I'm tired of clowns defending this hack! As if winning a grammy means anything these days. Jay Z won a grammy too.I wouldn't consider him anything more than garden mulch! There are many artists out there with much more talent than her, but can't get a break for many reasons(I'm sure you can think of many obvious ones, but we're not allowed to say them.)Oh oh, I better make sure I'm not being investigated by the police.

  • @gigwalnutz1 This "hack" as you call her has concertized around the world...recorded several albums.

I'm a hack...you're probably a hack. But Sharon is a consummate PERFORMING professional.

  • @gigwalnutz1 Finally, someone who knows and understand the guitar universe. I understand that police is to “serve and protect” Most probably they will protect your words for sure.

  • what the name of the first song she plays its amazing

  • I remember seeing Sharon in concert many years ago, and she absolutely blew me out of my seat.

  • Totally! I've heard her play in Paris years ago and also attended her master class the previous day (as a spectator). She is amazing! Her playing is so perfect, and she is also an excellent teacher, who manages to take the student to new heights.

    I completely disagree with

    gigwalnutz1... :-(

  • for the haters... fill us in how YOUR career is working out for YOU?

  • @41jimmyp My guitar teacher with a Doctorate from Eastman can't stand the way she plays. I'm pretty sure his masterclasses and international performances are serving him well. So its not just ignorant and uneducated people that don't like her playing. Its also respected Master players.

  • @peppy6078 youre such a faggot. In a world where very few people appreciate real music and even fewer actually dedicate themselves to learning the art you should not be so high and mighty you pretentious piece of shit.

  • @SuperShredder89 Well in fact I am currently working on my upper division for a bachelors in Music Education...So I would be one of those dedicated few. How about you read the comment I was responding to. Also I was only giving an example that even professionals disagree with other professional interpretations. I would recommend that you fully understand something before you "pretentiously" release judgement and anger over nothing.

  • hahahahaha so true

  • I hear she started a guitar Dept. at Juliard where there was none.

  • i have had the pleasure of hearing sharon in Aspen.

and of having her over for dinner twice and sharing a home made dinner with her parents once there who were visiting from Minnesota.

in concert, she is SUBLIME !

  • i have had the pleasure of having sharon visit for two dinners at my house in Woody Creek, Colorado. she is fantastic as you can imagine.

also i had the great pleasure once of a homemade dinner with her parents visiting from Minnesota. she is very REAL.

    and in concert.

    SUBLIME............truly.

  • Exactly! She is superb!

  • Interesting - thanks for posting.

  • Those kind of comments come from a person who doesn't truly understand, or just wants to hear others fight. They'll come around just give them some time.

  • What is with the classical guitar community??!! They have to be catiest group of people I have ever seen. What drives people to make comments like "She is over-rated" and "she is not talented". What BS! And what purpose does it serve?

Sorry you're having problems getting your Carcassi studies to sound like anything but you don't have to take it out on one of the great artists of the world.

  • They're just mad cuz they know she'd stick them with her assistant.

  • @ralpheym

She would never head a guitar dep in Europe. Imagine! lol

  • Why is that?

  • I agree

  • @ralpheym yea i agree. so many classical guitar fans are pretentious cocksuckers

  • Funny, after all that relaxed-play preach, at 8:37 her left hand goes out and gets tense when she changes position....

  • Get real . . .

  • I guess you told me :)

  • You bet! LOL

  • Tell me that again when you've won a grammy for your classical guitar album and teach at Julliard's guitar department.

  • @radiologist301 true true.
