when you get a engine change why dont you change the tach with a new one so it reads 0?

You use the engine logs to determine how many hours on the engine. You dont have to replace the tach when you replace the engine.
question. does this mean the airframe has 2000 hours or the engine??
@revowild The airframe is now 2000 hours old since the tach is original. It reads a little slow but also is in tach time which isnt really a linear time. The engine was changed at around 1850.
@reichec so how do you tell how many hours is on the engine. and also do you replace the tachmeter when an overhaul is done?
