Where have all the good times gone?
Bernie Taupin wrote "Daniel" while inspired by the events of the Vietnam War. The lyrics describe a fictional veteran who was blinded as a result of the war ("your eyes have died"/"but you see more than I") and travels to Spain to escape those around him back home ("do you still feel the pain"/"of the scars that won't heal?"), including his brother, from whose point of view the story is told.
Religion is the evil of all faiths as people bend the rules to their advantange. In the name of religion many things pass & are left burried without any questioning. Who knows what's right and what's wrong and who wrote the rules in any given religion ? All simply believes what they do themselves is right !
Music has always be used for peace whereas religion has caused many wars.
Leave out religion and enjoy the music all you guys.
No one can fix the religion issues. Peace to all !
religion is to do with the mind....and is mainly left-brain. Religions have lots of rules and regulations...again...that's all about the mind.
Consciousness is what we all strive for...and consciousness does not do rules & regulations.
Music can appeal to the mind on some levels, but the emotional vibrations of music go far deeper into our being. just beautiful...music can be the language of consciessness.
If you knew a bit more about him, you would at least read the lyrics to his songs, inspired by the Bible, and his collaboration on Bob Dylans 100% gospel albums. But you just like accusing, so you better think about yourself, noone is strong enough not to do mistakes without God on his side. and your religion is nothing!! Faith is the key.
Bullshit, arhims, show me a proof of mark taking cox, you just blame people from your high trone - your "religion" says the ones who put them high will be the lowest. You think about it. Maybe some ppl tried it cause it was like everywhere, i dont have marks home webcam, but mark has never been a drug addict , and he didnt use that stuff to write songs like most of other hippie rockers.
Its too bad with beauty such as this people think religion is more important-------music, poetry and art have real saving power - think about it and teach your children please!
I agree! GOD is not in religion... I believe that GOD is in things like that... poetry, music, art, to love people, If God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. See "Rob Bell Rhythm Legendado".

Alright, first things first, I love music more than the average guy but honestly, I do not believe that it is more important than religon. All the people in this video have snorted cocaine at one point. They don't have soul. They treat their body like shit. Music isn't the reason why we are all here, religon is.
the reason why we are here has nothing to do with music or religion. I think that more people died and suffered because of religion than for music.
What is more important to you? Religion, fine. To me it is music that cheers me up and makes me happy. And yes some of the good musicians took drugs, but some great music came out of it, even music that you like (I bet).
Ahhh... Three of the best, most talented people in music get together to play one of the most supremely excellent songs in the history of the universe... TIMELESS CLASSIC!
this song represents an era, post vietnam,I was born in 66 song I remember this from my early childhood and have always liked the song alot. kinda gets you in the gut if you know what I mean. peace out. headin to spain.
Daniel is a vietnam vet who lost his eyesight and travels from America to Spain, it explains it more in the last verse that got cut out, its a made up story that Bernie came up with
What a simply gorgeous version of this song!! Wow!! Mark is beautiful, Elton is beautiful, Eric is beautiful!! Ahhhh... lovely... the sound is perfect!! Thanks for the post!!
there is no one like him...my favorites are Daniel,Sorry seeems to be...,Elton's song,We all fall in love sometimes, Chameleon,Sixty Years On and so many more
You know what, i actually like Elton's singing more now a days than when he was young. for one thing his voice is more mature and it seems like his voice has more jive and soul than back when he started.

I very much love the way he sings "waving goodbye" on 3:22 , back then he liked to improvise much more than he does now. Adds so much more to his songs

Sod the argument over religion and music, its irrelevant. I like to see great muscians jam together especially when Knopfler is involved.
