I heard Al Martino sing this months before he died - and he sang it as good as this version.  he sat on a stool and sang to his audience - it was superb - a magicla moment thta will live with me. Wonderful Mr. Martino - the small statured man with the gentlest of smiles, modest bearing and large magnificent voice. So sad he is not here anymore.

This song is an adaptation of an old Neapolitan love song called "MARENARIELLO" which is much more beautiful than the English written for the movie. The translation of the Italian words in the song is "Near the sea lets make love heart to heart we pass the time. I am a sailor

and I pull the nets for the love of you I start to die." A great rendition can be found by Patrizio Buanne. This was my grandfathers favorite song. I'm glad it survives.
