  • it's actually iggy pop solo in 1977...anyway amazing video. i don't know why this works because most of it seems totally unrelated to the song, but it does! eg im trying to work out what what rimbaud and baudelaire are doing in it. but as i said, somehow it works. loved it. really inventive

  • Mágnifica edicion... estremecedora. muy buen trabajo

  • on a different note, I occasionally feel like I could die when I listen to this song

  • Where the fuck did all these clips come from

  • @TitanTheManic Well, I did all the fucking animations myself if that's what you mean.

  • @negativeEclipse

No, I meant the individual images the clips like at 1:29

It's a great video for one of my favourite songs, I'm just wondering where it all came from

  • @negativeEclipse Good effort bud, they're good!

  • song is perfection.

  • i had a bar room argument with a guy over whether this song is about a chinese girl iggy knew or about china white, the particularly pure form of heroin iggy used throughout the 70's. i think im still right.

  • @GoinDownToJunkieTown this song is obviously about having your mind warped by drugs, not a love song about a Chinese girl

  • @GoinDownToJunkieTown I think you're right

  • punk rock version of this song!

  • Such an understated song, yet so frightening.

  • That's one of the songs I listen to at top volume when driving over the speed limit in the city.

    Awesome

  • The last two minutes are the best. Oh how I love the electric guitar. For he this is the holy instrument.

  • arrogant

  • He doesn't have to. He rules anyway.

  • It's not about the singing. It's about the way the emotion is shown through a combination of the lyrics and music.

  • Just Perfect, a 5 stars song !!!

  • when iggy sings "it's in the white of our eyes" my hair just stands on air....it's magic

  • its the attraction of the shadow shine on you black

    diamonds

  • @cleon777 same for me!!

  • Ta wersja jest lepsza niż wersja Davida Bowie.

  • visions of schawsticas in my head and plans for everyone. its in the wiiiiild of my eyes!

  • i think your talking a load of bollocks about repression of speech its about fucking your girlfriend

  • supernatural jobs

  • Boy this song is dark

  • if u like this check out "max kd drive"

  • Sorry about all of that. It rocks. Don't beat me up too bad.

  • I feel the line "She says Shhh" is about repression of speech and art in both the East and West. Stand up and tell the truth in a house full of lies, Jim, as his China Girl knows too well, and your end will be at hand.

Oh, and it rocks like a motherfucker.

  • Yes - it's a metaphor n China girl is not an individual but another world & way of life. Bowie was always pretty progressive with his political nuances n asides & Iggy really grasped the anarchistic fascism that was in the air at the time.. not meant 2 b read literally but more of a statement about Western arrogance over something they know nothing about.. i think the 'shhh' n how it is conveyed is the very essence of the song 2 (they're both thespians at the end of the day!) X

  • I thank you. A voice like yours makes this venue tolerable, if such a thing is possible.

  • Or is it the sheer horror of the song's theme? Make no mistake, these writers peered unblinking into the abyss and lived to tell the tale. "Wake up mornings, there's no China girl." A clear gob in the face of the callow political and economic Western world and the insane price we pay for it.

  • What gives a song as brave and bleak as this the cold iron architecture of art?

Is it in the resignation of lines like "...I'll ruin everything you are." and the warbled, downward cadence of the delivery of that line, in the incredible context it establishes in half of the first line "I could escape this feeling..." in the repeated agony of the descending guitar figure in the outro, in its reference to the political and geographic hubris of the genetic superiority of blue eyes?

  • I love it when he screams!

  • I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!Iggy pop rocks!

  • The Igster and Mister B are best pals and both very talented gentlemen, and they both do this song very nicely.

  • Excellent video, my friend! I'll be posting this around the internets!

  • Cheers for the Iggy upload. The Prickly Bowie lot deny this is an Iggy Song. Which it most definitely is. The first two Stooges LP's, The Idiot and Lust For Life are proof of Jimmy's individuality and influence.

  • Heck the only reason Bowie recorded his own version of China Girl was to help Iggy enjoy some financial success for his music.

  • Another reason was maybe it was a good song!!

  • very nice video man, cool editing

  • i like a lot both of them, it's just a great song

  • Always preferred this superior version.

  • It is davids version he produced it, you can tell bowie co wrote it too. This is my favourite version thou

  • it's better than david's version

  • no problem bro

  • I gotta Find the Demos from the Idiot :D

  • My bad.

  • It's all good: to be fair, it's kind of nitpicking on part.

  • This version (the original) is so far superior to the emasculated crap version Bowie did 6 years later. Of note is that the rythym section for both "The Idiot" and "Lust For Life" is Hunt and Tony Sales (Soupy's kids) who later went on to play with Bowie's Tin Machine.

  • Not to dis the video, but it's just Iggy Pop. No Stooges to be found on this song.

  • amazing song

  • This was iggy when he was solo, not with the stooges

  • i almost committed suicide to this back in 2004

    Great Song!

  • It's already been done. Go ask Ian Curtis.

  • well, one more china girl suicide wouldnt do no bad.

  • glad you're still here

  • Iggy and Bowie Wrote it together, Bowie later did his version down the road, because Iggy was broke, and had been in and out of rehab, so he did it because he knew he could make a friend some money.

  • iggy till i die!

  • Its not about herion is about cocain

  • what do you mean?

  • It's probably about Heroin. China white

  • Yup

  • I read the Iggy biography, and supposedly it is a love song for a girl from China who spoke hardly any English. They met in Berlin (or something, don't take my word for the city) and they had a brief, passionate relationship before they realized they could never stay together. After getting drunk, Iggy her how much he loved her and he was so jittery that she put her finger to his mouth and she said "Shhh."

  • oh cool

  • This was actually just Iggy solo

  • Iggy was a fucking musical genious people laughed when he said he got inspiration from blenders and shavers but he invented the new wave of rock

  • aah memories of younger years- most moving

  • what great song..its inpossible to compare iggys/bowies version..they made two different songs out it with bowie making it his his ws more restrained and more polished.iggys is great as he adds his style to it and it turns out great..i love em both

  • Just to add something to the Iggy/David debate, if memory serves correctly, they wrote the song together. However, although I love Bowie, Iggy's version definitely rocks better and harder.

  • I would say that the Bowie version is one over polished turd. The original Iggy Pop version is just godly.

  • This is not Iggy & The Stooges song, _ Stooges dont play on this - it's an orginal recording by Iggy Pop on his solo album from 1977 !!

  • o my good, china girl

    CHINA GIRL!!!!

    i want heroin now

  • Focking brilliant!

  • I'm a long time bowie fan, but now i'm torn by the fact that i may well prefer the orignal ... very cool video also

  • I always thought this was Bowie's original...wow...

  • well actually it sort of is because he co-wrote the song for Iggy's 1977 album which he produced

  • Really enjoyable it was. This was a new rendition of China Girl for me and the images fit really well to the music I thought as well.

    Well done!

    Adel

  • Incredible use of film and music. This is a talent which should be harnessed and captured with the view of making something even more incredible. Truly unique in every way. Beautiful stuff.
