I just wanted to say thanks again for posting this. It is absolutely wonderful & has become my favorite version of this song. It amazes me what some people can get up & do with just a guitar. I love music, but if I tried this I might as well play with my feet (it wouldn't make a difference). Brilliant performance!
I think the heart to ground is a reference listening w/your heart. Growing up I learned in school that Native Americans would put their ears to the ground to hear the buffalo heard moving. Or that you could put your ear on the train track to hear if the train was coming, basically being able to hear something a long ways off. So I think it's a reference to listening to hear something very quiet or subtle. IMHO.
^Thats interesting, however I always thought of it as making yourself vulnerable. When you put your heart on the ground in front of someone you are trusting them not to stomp all over it. Its like saying "I love you and I trust you, Im putting my heart on the ground, dont hurt me."
