What is happenning in Burma is a result of India and China's attempt to dominate the Burmese Economy. The crisis has roots in post colonial Burma whose economy was dominated by Indian and Chinese enterprises. Politically unconcious and unprepared Burma had to resort to nationalization under the millitery controle. Burma perhaps was not suitable for democracy when the entire economy was in the hand of the outsiders from India and China.

The fact that people could be talking about "letting this happen" while suffocating the country is just pure disgusting.
It is a very sad world when we can let this type of behaviour exist without intervention. If we can invade Iraq and Afganistan then we can sure as hell invade Burma and help these people. Let the Western world do something positive with its armies, use them for the right reason rather than what the West can get back in return.
Get in there George W, I bet you would if enough people told you Osama was hiding in Burma.
It is very sad. But it is really insane to use this disaster politically.
Some are yelling "invade Burma", "overthow Burma Junta" with this good timing. Of ocurse Burma Junta will not trust them and refuse aid workers from the same countries into Burma. Then Junta's refusal is again a good excuse for them to yell "invade Burma" Burma" and "overthow Junta".
Some aid workers from the real non-political organizations have been working in Burma for a long time, and they are allowed into Burma once the cyclone happended.
The Asian Tribal Ministries (ATM) is one of them, and one of its aid workers, Karenna Laklem, just returned from Burma and had an interview with Australia media. You may goole this interview from internet.
Unfortunately, the carnage is complete. Fortunately the Myanmar government has chosen to go it alone. The US is itching to get a toe-hold in their country so that a permanent base of operations could be set up. Again, the US government can care less about the Myanmar people. It is like oil; our government could care less about the Arab nations people. We want bases to launch the new world order and to make a grab for the golden resources. That is what the Myanmar government believes. It's true!!
I did not know much about Vietnam. I know now. Our government wanted a permanent base of operations for strategic purposes. Our government does nothing unless it is in the US government's national interests. I feel very saddened about the loss of life and I want nothing more than to come to aid them. It is not me but our stupid government. Your government does not want any assistance because they know our government has other strategic motives. Sure we would come, but would we ever leave?
i dont understand why these people ended up this way over the course of time from the beginning of their culture to now if from the beginning or their culture to now the Europeans only improved
This is extremely upsetting to see that the Junta won't open up it's borders because of its ridiculous philosophy, but this tradgedy might open up their eyes and make them realize that their regime needs to change!
I am very very very sorry for those people and for the chinese. I wish I can help. I ask Almighty Allah to stop these catastrophies. Those people don't deserve all this.
This catastrophe clearly shows the hypochrisy in this world. The Burmese people are living under a dicatorial miltaryregime. Where are all the statesmen who speak so highly of freedom and democracy as a human right? It seems it only counts when its combined with interests which are close to there countries and companies.
Isn't it strange that the US had a fleet nearby on a "training mission" to provide supplies and rescue ??
Kinda convienient... like NORAD was on a "training mission" when the Trade centers were hit ....
too many coincidences for me................
This also reminds me of Katrina. Why is the US pushing relief for Myanmar (not that I don't think we should help) when they didn't help people in their own country?
This video made me cry!I am half from Burma. This goverment doesnt want to let any other countries help. The poor Burmese people have to suffer. But slowly they are letting some aid helpers come in.And some say that a another cyclone might come.
We must try and help, even a a few dollars or cents or whatever would help! You shouldnt be shy to help.Even a few donations would make a family happy..
This is sad and unfortunate. Has their government allowed other countries to help yet? I know they ended up letting the United States help after a few days. It makes no sense to me that they're not accepting or weren't accepting help, when so many countries were/are there for them. I think their government wants to distribute everything themselves, so the population thinks it's just them helping. Am I right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
