  • i used to play this game on NES till street fighter 2 came out on super famicom/super nes. i made believe white was ryu and red was ken. this is a GREAT NES game if you play to make fun of it. it also is a peaceful game. i used to actually play 2 players and just by myself so i could practice moves and go through the stage backgrounds and just relax while eating lunch after school at home.

  • Awful games, SUX, those guys have no taste, this is a CLASSIC, not the new modern shit of today that lack soul and commitment!

  • I wonder if you reviewed this back in the day, would still say the same thing lol

  • 2:35 Notice the "RED" Guy is Fail

  • The bull in the bonus stages has had another appearance in Fighter's history Dynamite.

  • this game sucked so bad but i played the shit out of it

  • Can i see your Sentai vs Rangers video?

  • My little brother got this game for Christmas one year. God it sucked so bad.

  • The NES version was horrid!!! The judge says "boing" instead of "point", LMAO!!!

  • Sounds like Data East isn't too good with making adaptations. However, I do like what they did with Shadowrun, though I wish they could have made the sequel Drake promised in the end, and he should have been the final boss instead of that last matrix system run.

  • Dude dont agree at all. Karate champ was awesome. Now the platform game was sucky but the big arcade game was awesome. Backward round house!

  • @gothamgrafix No I'm not trying to be anybody. When I review bad games, I become an exaggerated form of my real personality.

  • @AllieRX87 play the xbox one

  • @gothamgrafix

    lol troll shutup

    you fucking bitch kid

    drop yo balls

  • @gothamgrafix stop sucking on the AVGN DICK u homo! Not everybody thats reviewing bad games are tryin to copy AVGN.

  • @gothamgrafix Hes not a Angry Video Game Nerd rip-off and hes not a kid.

    HES LIKE 30.

  • @nightbane2 I'm 24.

  • @AllieRX87 what games do you hate instead of mka and karate champ?

  • @MrPs2masters Any specific type of games I hate? Because if you're talking games in general, there's quite a lot to go with the games I love. But my MOST hated games are Mortal Kombat Advance, Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (GBA), Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, Mario's Time Machine, Transformers: Convoy no Nazo, Kinnikuman: Dirty Challenger, Pit Fighter (SNES), and Fire Pro Wrestling for the Xbox 360.

  • @gothamgrafix Learn English before for start trolling thx

  • I can't believe that victory dance passed quality control.

    Wow.....just wow.

  • Were you on facebook?

  • @sonicrulz101 No. I didn't have a Facebook at the time.

  • I had the C64 version as a kid, it was pretty much the same as the arcade version

  • Might want to try and edit out the facebook messenger noise and the awful ear bleeding white noise when you shout like a spoilt kid.

  • I'm searching for next classic arcade game which you could play by inserting coins in a public place.

The game was as next:you could play it alone or together with two in 1 team and you had different levels.

It was a sort of streetfight but not against one opponent but group people(gangs).

You could pick up baseball bats and stuff... ,and you could use elevators to go to next level.

I was really crazy of that game and played it very much in my youth.. ,that's why i want to know it...

  • @Fadur1 Sounds like Double Dragon. Classic.

  • @RyloreVanguard yeah man it is.. but after my message i found it already!!!!! i was crazy of that game in my youth and inserted always my last coins(money)in it!!!! The same with this karate game!!!!!HAAHAH!!! I wish you had this games on PS3 in the PS Store!!!!!:)))

  • @Kevin39LV8 Too true. At least the arcade version was fairly decent.

  • not the angry videogame nerd, but i liked it

  • In his victory dance, it looks like he's doing jumping jacks.

  • Player vs Player version has an ending!

  • my eyes hurt like hell after watching the victory dance Q.Q

  • Bloodsport!!

  • "One middle finger out of five" lol

That's my first time heard that one.

  • Comment removed

  • This is all there is to this game.

    "Be-gin!"

    *Pow!*

    "Point!"

    Repeat scrpit.

  • umm maby it's the computer but is the red guy purpel

  • Aww early child hood memories lol

  • Why did you delete that Karate Champ update video?

  • @shotbastard I did it in favor of this review.

  • @AllieRX87 Karate Champ arcade is the best!

    NES is not. totally wrong.

  • that victory dance is so gay, literally

  • the arcade version*

  • this is ALOT better than the nes version

  • Zero: WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR!!!!!!!!

  • bummer, I ordered this one thinking it would at least be a good port of the arcade version (in terms of graphics, it looks the closest)

  • @aquakiller8 .... NO :D

  • wtf?

  • lol have you heard of a machinima called The Leet World?

you seriously sound like the guy called Leeroy on that show LOL

  • I grew up with this game, and I agree. It's pretty bad, but as a kid I kept playing it over and over again. Nice review and good history on it too. Personally, I would get rid of the cussing and yelling in anger. Only because it sounds forced. Makes me feel like it's an attempt to be AVGN. Just do your own thing.

  • The judge from Karate Champ reminds me of the Chairman from Iron friggin Chef.

  • Comment removed

  • When he does the victory dance in the NES version, it looks like he's trying to fly LOL

  • I haven't played the arcade game in twenty five years, but I still remember a good move. If you are the left player, left stick up, right stick down. That makes you flip over your opponent. Then, to left stick right and right stick left. That does a twisty kick and knocks him down for a full point.

  • Good sound, bad game

  • I never played the arcade version which was so much different, but I had the NES version. The NES version used to crack me up, when you knocked down your opponent and you'd hear an "Mm-MMMMMMMMMM?" sound. ROTFLOL

    X-D

  • God the Victory Dance is so GAY!

  • The victory dance can be annoying, but it is SO hilarious.

  • This was one of my first NES games I got in 1985. At the time, I loved it - cause I was really young and didn't know any better.

  • (to n1njaglare)

    Fuck off, asshole!

  • Comment removed

  • lol its 1982

  • i remember this game... it did suck... it also had this weird glitch where if you hold down and select (i think) your character would flash and seemingly be somewhat invulnerable, but since the hit detection was so bad, i'm not so sure about that... bit of trivia, you can see the arcade game (the case at least) in Ferris Bueller's Day Off when the girl spits soda in Rooney's face

  • Of course u can also see it in Bloodsport

  • I had this game

  • "one middle finger out of five"

    i lol'd

  • great game in the arcade

  • I used to Karate Champ in the Arcade and I hated the NES version so much. Recently though I got MAME and now revisit all the games I used to play in the Arcade but yeah, NES version blow serious ass.

  • When the arcade version had different controls than the one joystick and 2 buttons, it never worked well as a nintendo game.

  • lol good review thanks for not bashing the origional arcade version

  • LOL I used to have game 20 years ago. I could never beat the freaking flower thingy flying at you

  • get the fuck of his back!

damn you worthless shit slugs who insult people who put videos GREAT videos on youtube for attension

  • Well, I guess the game was good for the time, well we all know who brought back the idea of the white karate guy and red karate guy.... CAPCOM!!!!

  • lol @ hit detection n victory gripe

  • hey

    what was your high score!!!!

  • To me, the hit detection issue would be something like an invulnerability trigger so that there are no double hits, and whoever gets the attack out first wins.

  • Any game is awful if your a noob that dose not know how to play the game and is using an emulator.

  • First of all, I've played the original NES cartridge version when I was a kid. Second of all, I had good reasons as to why this game was bad. Awkward controls, poor hit detection, and the absence of music to go with those annoying problems makes this game really really boring.

If I was a noob, I would've said it sucks because of the difficulty, but I didn't, did I?

  • Dude you need to take into consideration the limitations of the NES compared to the actual arcade cab. Both the NES version and the arcade version have an ending. The hit detection is suppose to be like that. It is made like that because you have to use exact precision. That is what makes the game difficult...for a noob. It is apparent that you made your mind up about this game. Why even review the game if you suck at it? It is not the fault of the game.

  • He's right. I know for sure there is no ending in the Arcade version at the least.

Can you play this game without sucking?

  • There is an end to every arcade game. Have you ever heard of a kill screen? Try harder man. And yes I can play this game with out sucking. Or at least I used to all the time. I have moved on. It is the kind of game that requires finesse. You have to play it a lot to really get it down. And even then there will be punches thrown that appear to be just bad collision detection. It is a part of the game.

  • Nope. Neither versions have an ending, BUT, the Player vs. Player mode's social factor was good so that they didn't need an ending and the original game's Tournament idea is what keeps the game going as well. Both Arcade versions have a purpose, while in the NES, what ARE they fighting for? And about the hit detection, no it's not the NES limitations' fault. Yie Ar Kung Fu, Karateka, and TMNT: Tournament Fighters are MUCH better ports than Karate Champ on the NES and they don't have that problem

  • Ok this is the way I see things. You are saying there is no end. Do you not know what a kill screen is?

Listen man. You seem like a nice guy and your editing is good. If anything we should be supporting each other as youtube game reviewers. I could debate you more but it will just end in you giving examples of things that do not really apply to what we are debating and you thumbs downing my comments. When you want to make your Wii videos look good with synced sound hit me up.

  • Yes I know what it is, and it's technically a Game Over screen. In Karate Champ, that only happens when you lose. If you keep winning, however, it never ends, and this also applies to the Arcade version. However, the lack of ending isn't a problem in the Arcade version because both Arcade versions each have a purpose like I said before like winning a Tournament or saving a different girl each level. The NES version, however, doesn't do that.

  • No dude. A kill screen is what happens when the arcade game runs out of memory. Like when you reach the 256th screen of Pac-Man. Or here I Will just copy and paste the first line of the Wiki article.

A kill screen is a stage or level in a video game (often an arcade game) that stops the player's progress due to a programming error or design oversight. Rather than "ending" in a traditional sense, the game will crash, freeze, or behave so erratically that further play is impossible.

  • I strongly encourage you to do more research on kill screens. I apologize for calling you a noob in previous comments. But hey, if any one you should know people will not agree with every review you put out. I wish I had some footage of the ending for you. But I don't. I am busy with other projects.

  • Oh yeah. I see what you mean and I've seen those before online. I consider that a glitch and it happens in all 8-bit Arcade games, but I doubt that feature is included in the NES version. To me, the NES version seems infinite like the game Duck Hunt, but the difference is that Duck Hunt was 10X more fun to play and it is designed very well. Karate Champ (NES) with its stiff controls and poor hit detection just feels...boring.

  • Or how about Classic Mario Bros. (not Super) for the NES, the port of the Arcade game. Maybe the Arcade version has a "Kill screen" as you like to call it, but the NES version is infinite and you start over again, but that was WAY more fun to play than Karate Champ. Maybe Yie Ar Kung Fu is the same way with infinite playing, but it's a more fun fighting game with better responsive controls and hit detection.

  • In the NES version, it's two guys fighting....for nothing. And if you keep winning, you go back to the first level. They should AT LEAST say "Congratulations!" at the end, but they didn't if the NES version has no main purpose of the two guys fighting.

Again, a Game Over screen (AKA kill screen) doesn't count as an ending.

Unless the NES version is designed to make you lose on purpose.

  • Dose it really HAVE to be more then 2 guys fighting? That was the important part to me. I have never been impressed by stories. Not my thing. I just like to play.

  • And both Arcade versions of Karate Champ didn't require exact precision.

  • I was talking about the NES version.

  • This shit was boring!

  • You kinda sound like scarface when your yelling.

  • Voice cracking when u were pointlessly yelling

  • thats a bad ass victory dance. something that all Karate experts should do

  • 5 stars, you actually did some homework on this! I'm an arcade Karate Champ fan from way back. I was a kid when it was new in the arcade!

  • Karate Champ on the NES, more like Karate Chump!!!!

  • I still own this game, kick ass music though, gotta give it that.

  • nes is good

  • What ARE they fighting for? I'd really like to know! The most annoying thing about this game? THE MOTHER FUCKIGN VICTORY DANCE! GIVE ME A FUCKING GUN TO SHOOT THIS GUY!

  • i never could beat this game.

  • arcade game, ok

    NES version sucked!

  • man why just everyone make fun of this guys voice just leave the subject alone!

  • just shut up and find something else to complain about. something that's worth complaining about that is.

  • i wasn't complaining, you were complaining. that shows how much you know.

  • sorry dude im not tryin to start an argument

but go somewhere else if ur gonna talk about the dudes voice

  • hahaha, gotta love Data East...

  • I was glad to find out someone else was as pissed as me when NES released their lazy version of this game. I was disgusted when this was released.

  • also the red guy is purple.AND LAST THE REFER REE LOOKS HORRIBLE!WHEN HE MOVES HE STOMPS STOMPS LEFT AND RIGHT LIKE HES MAD ABOUT SUMTHING

  • allie, wheres Superman, Virtual Hydlide and Street Fighter?

  • I felt those reviews were weak. I'll do better ones in the future, but if you want more details on that reason, go to my blog.

    allierx87. blogspot. com

  • You have'nt answerd my messeges in the mail, i hope you have'nt changed you're mail adress. Chaklawin: Watch my newest LP of indiana jones' greatest adventures for the super nintendo. Hope you'll enjoy, my friend. Chaklawin. :-)

  • Sorry. I haven't checked my email very often recently. I'll respond as soon as I can.

  • Lol. I'm not sure if the victory dance looked more perverted or stupid, but somehow it's both. XD

  • Robocop... I remember seeing this game in a pizza parlor when I was like six (I don't know WHY I remember that...). It didn't interest me. Then I saw Armake's review of it; it looked like the worst beat-em-up I had ever seen in my life!

  • NES really fucked it up!

  • No. Data East did.

  • Didn't you say they also did Robocop, god he walked like he had a turd up his ass in that game!

  • Yup. lol

  • AVGN's got to review Robocop in the future, it's so bad!

  • What's with the "Windows Update Notfification" sounds throughout the video (for example at 0:14 and 3:12)?

  • I had WiiConnect24 on.

  • Do you have an E- mail? If you do please send the address. Please.

  • I'll send you a PM right away about that.

  • Hay allieRX87 i played this game on MAME too!

  • Dude, you should try International Karate on the commodore 64 and its sequel IK+ on the Amiga, (Data East took them to court over copyright infringement) but they are all time classics, esepcially IK+ , Incredibly addictive.

  • You suggested that I watch a more recent video, and I have a would like to give some constructive critism:

    1) I enjoy your choice of games, def. a selection of more rare/not-popular to play games

    2) I still think your vol. control needs work

    3) Maybe do something more creeative to make your videos stand out/...there are 1000's of cursing/angry gamers...just like xerox

    4) Script out your comments...then your flow will be better

    5) Just a few tweaks and I think you will have better videos...

  • 2)If you mean my microphone, well that's the best I can do. If I put it too low, you wouldn't hear me. If I put it too high, it'll sound like static.

  • 3)Actually, I have done that. It's just that in this "Classic Review", I wanted to go back to my roots so that I won't grow stale and find new ways of being funny. If you wanna see me actually be funny in a review, watch my Transformers: Convoy no Nazo epic 3-Part review. I also have something really funny planned for my Sonic Genesis remake.

4)I do even though I kinda mess up at times, but it's only a review, not a movie or a TV show.

  • I do all my best to do reviews. Yes I use the cursing/angry game format, but I feel it's the best way to bash on bad games. If it's a good game to talk about, then that review would be completely different.

  • With what mame emulator version you used to play the karate champ arcade game show in this video? And please post me bullteins/ sent me videos so i could know when is your next video is coming/ uploaded to youtube. Thanks for bieng such a goo d friend, Allie and don't worry i'm not removing you from my friend list and by the way please go watch my new jackie chan kung fu action review for the PC engine. OK. Seeyo, Chaklawin

  • 1) I use MAME to use arcade roms.

    2) Sure, but if you subscribe to me, you'll know another way when my latest video is up.

    3) Sure. I'll check it out later today.

  • i have this game if anyone wants 2 see me review it let me know

  • Wait, what can you say about Urban Champion? Peace! :-)

  • Urban Champion was a good fighting game. It came out before the NES version of Karate Champ, but after the Arcade version. It was very fun to play and had cool music too. And unlike this game, the controls and hit detection work like it's supposed to.

  • you rock

  • The controls are sooooooooooooo fucked up

  • This game is amazing in the arcades, I would know because the arcade down the street from my home still has it.

  • Lucky you.

  • Good remake!

  • best. victory. dance. EVER!

  • direct port from arcade to nes? thats kinda alot to ask arcades were super high and ahead of their time and nes was smaller and didnt have much memory

  • It's not because the arcade was more powerful. Think about this. There are faithful arcade ports on the NES like Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Pac-Man, Galaga, Double Dragon, Contra, and even Data East's own Bad Dudes. This, however, was not faithful to its arcade counterpart. Not even the Player vs. Player version.

  • very good point

  • glory to the classic reviews.

  • this is delicious

  • A little bit dissappointing because there is no "BULLSHIT!!" clip. :P

And you didn't seem as pissed off as when you reviewed the Transformers Convoy no Nazo game.

Or should it be Convoy no NAZI?!!!

Still nice review, and a nice introduction to the Karate Champ games (well for me at least because I never yet played the game).

Instead of Karate Champ, the NES version should be called "Karate BULLSHIT!!!". LOL!!!!! XD

  • Well that's because the first review to include the Bullshit clip was my Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis review, although I had the "Crack Is Bad" clip on the Kamen Rider Club review.

  • By the way, would it be okay if you could poost the full version of the "BULLSHIT!!" clip?

  • Ummmm...ok.

  • By the way, sorry for spelling "Post" wrong. "Poost?" :P What a typo!!

  • LOOOOOOOL "poost"...

  • Much better than the original version of your review.

I wonder where did you mistakenly hear that the original arcade game had an ending, because I couldn't find any info on that whatsoever.

  • Great Review

  • I saw this before...Good flashback review

  • Wait a minute. Didn't I see this game for the NES?

  • lol

  • i got this game for a 1.00 a yard sale
