Vivien has been quoted in numerous books written @ her, saying Robert Taylor was her favorite leading man. He had the reputation of being the nicest man in Hollywood. It's a shame Vivien didn't stay w/films as the camera loved her. She only made 19. Vivien tried and wanted so desperatley to be Olivier's equal on the stage. Inteteresting: the only film the Olivier's made together-'That Hamilton Woman'-Vivien received top billing.
@libralady1010 she was more talented than Larry but the great leads are written for men so she really didn't have a chance but she still played two of the greatest heroines ever: Scarlett and Anna, and her turn in Ship of Fools was extraordinary, no offense to Olivier fans but teaming with Taylor was a much better choice, probably the best couple ever
@vindinArges Oh definitely! No one was more photogenic.Larry wanted her on ' HIS TURF,' so to speak and had her convinced that films were sub par to the Stage.Granted the Stage is great training and some actors come across better on Stage-Larry-than Film.Viviens' strength lay not only in her perfect, extraordinary looks but also her facial expressions. She could ' get the point across,' w/out saying a word.Am not so sure Larry could that. And you're right: She DID have more talent than him
great tribute.....so touching..
It makes me cry....
I love Vivien and Robert :)
