"Fin Sweet!". I am now using this setup for calendars, contacts, and email. This allows for some very sweet additional functions in the iPhone calendar app. Such as adding the U.S. Holidays calendar to your iPhone. Never miss Valentines day or Mother's Day again. No need to configure alerts and automatically updates for every year. I have even created a Family B-Days calendar via Google Calendars with customized alerts that I share with my family. Now no one forgets anyones B-Day.

I have a gmail account and mobile me as well. I am struggling because i use folders in mac mail and I like to transfer some emails to these folders to refer to later. The problem that I am having is that when I put the email in a folder from the computer, the email stays on the phone. To get rid of it, I delete the email from the IPhone and it deletes it out of the folder. How can I get the e-mail off the phone but keep it in a folder. I did delete the gmail cacti & put it thru exchange.

Question...if I set up the push e-mail function for gmail, do I still have to set up the gmail seperately? In other words if I do my thing like you did under Exchange, do I still have to go back and do a very similar thing under g-mail?
a biiiiiiiiiiiigggg thank you and to google....!!! oh my sweet lord... i just love this push notification... i saved lot of money by cacelling subscription.. thank you thank you thank you...
Thanks! I was using Yahoo before - but not now. Can you do video on how to reply back on my iphone but not with my gmail acct but from the account the original email came to before being forwarded on my gmail?
Thanks man the video really helped, just switched over from a Blackberry to the 3gs and was contemplating going back . . . until I saw this. God job :-)
How is the battery? I think this might drain your battery fast? I read on the att site and asked their reps that you have to have the "Enterprise" data plan to use exchange. Are you on the regular plan?
Battery does suffer a little, but only due to Push Notifications being enabled. YOU DO NOT have to have the Enterprise plan. ATT lies. I don't have the enterprise plan at all...
They should... Just make sure you setup an IMAP account. I'm pretty sure Gmail defaults to that. Read up on the differences between IMAP and POP if you're un-familiar.
Hey. You don't need an app or program. If you have a Gmail account or IMAP email account. If you don't know the difference between POP and IMAP I suggest you check it out!
Finally google does what every iPhone/gmail user has been begging! This kills every paid app in the AppStore that is "push" gmail(even though they suck).
In short, yes. The idea of PUSH anything, is once something hits your inbox you instantly get it on your phone without manually checking or fetching every set amount of minutes.
Great video Tim. Around 10 am today my doorbell rang and it was the FedEx guy, I got my iPhone! After watching this video I set my gmail and it's working perfectly. Thanks you so much.
i found out about the multiple email address thing really quick, i use google apps for all my me@mydomain type email addresses, so i would have eventually setup 5 email addresses, with the new google sync, oh well. IMAP is still pretty good, the couple minute delay never causes problems.

just as a heads up there are a few known limitations, so make sure they're not features you need,
google: "google sync known limitations" to find that page.
also, if you have multiple accounts, you can only set up one exchange email address on the iPhone.
so choose the one you need push from.
mnathanielc 2 years ago
yeah... good lookin. I said there were a few things I missed, and the one exchange account was one of them.
I advise everyone to read up on that link I put up too.
