You'd think for more than 60k BMW could design a decent looking instrument panel. These look like something thrown together in about 3 minutes and then they gave up
@mi16t Yea, those are the retards that think they will look smart if they say "dont rev the cold engine" because they heard someone else saying it, but in fact, they dont have the slightest clue WHY its bad to rev a cold engine, and they dont know that NOTHING will happen to the engine if you rev it cold. Its an engine, its made out of titanium, aluminum and steel, not from marshmallows. Even if you do rev a cold engine, nothing will happen (unless you do it every morning for a whole year).
Actually you are a tad wrong. The reason why you allow an engine to reach operating temp prior to revving is to allow the oil to do proper and full circulation. Your piston rings, and other components need to reach a proper operating temperature as well, in order to properly function and not to either damage the cylinder walls, or the piston rings themselves, in a nutshell.
I wouldn't recommend revving a cold motor, especially not a M power motor which uses a 0w60 oil. :-)
Ah Jesus tonight, iXetsuei. It makes very little difference blipping the throttle on a car with a cold engine when it's in neutral. There's no weight on it making it very easy with no strain.
Oh good lord, idiot of the day here folks. Yes, even in neutral revving the car to a high RPM will cause damage to the engine, most of the time being permanent. It is much better when the engine is warmed up.
BMW's (I only know of M's having these) even have a variable redline, which when the engine is cold will reduce the redline of the engine to about 6000rpm, then when it warms up brings the redline back up to 8250rpm.
No, variable red line now restricts the engine to much higher revs on modern BMWs. If this video showed the M3 being held at the red line on a cold engine I'd agree but this won't make any difference. By the way, some of the 'lower end' models have variable red line too, even the diesels. I work for BMW.
just had a crisis, in my pants... fuck! now i have to clean it all up

its dumb to start up a car and being to revv like that. the engine is still cold and is oil deprived. you should wait 3 min and then revv away....

@subliminalcreativ
look at the temperature. i guess he start the car before he record this video. so.. its not bad for the engine
froko23 1 year ago
@subliminalcreativ I think your the one thats dumb, look at the oil temps. He clearly is past breakin and the engine isn't cold.
Purepromedia 8 months ago
@subliminalcreativ ummm... if you start a M3 E90/92/93 with a cold engine, the engine is limited as you can see here: /watch?v=FqwrJNiGu2E
the engine here is already warmed up also oil temperature is ok.
first think, then write

Don't forget all the engine gaskets as well, and the cooling system, transmission.

Nice job having it warmed up before you rev it, not a lot of people do that.

i love bmw's. but the only one thing that they need to work on is their start ups
and change the speedometer.
to make it look better.
