I had a 77 Ford Mustang II ghia with a velour interior, done in turquoise and had an original 8 track , and a 2.8 V6. The car was a royal POS and i ended up ditching it after a year. THe only redeeming factor is that Jaclyn Smith drove one very similar to it in Charlies Angels. She looked good in it anyway.

actually it was 82-85. they dropped the POS "Iron Puke" after only a couple years in the 3rd gen because it was so underpowerd that the V6 not only out performed it but the V6 also got better fue mileage because you had to really abuse that crappy I4 to accelerate.
Just be glad it became small and nimble instead of following it's sister the Cougar...huge, slow, and ugly. If it had gone that way there would have never been cars like my 2003 Mach 1 today.

@sabbath7 My 93 Z28 was rated 275hp. The mustang didn't reach or exceed that rating until the 05 model year (not including special models like the corbra and mach 1).
The problem wasn't the "economical 4 cylinder" it was the totally lacking Mach I that made the Mustang II unacceptable. If they had a 225 hp V8 in the "high performance" car and a good fun V6 in the Ghia the car's reputation might be different today. A gas sipping 4cyl option is one thing, but I think the V8 that year only put out about 139hp. That's just sad.

Milled .025 heads and decked the block. Solid lifter Motorcraft cam........Traction-Lok rearend, C-4 redone by Mr. Norm himself. Nothing handles like it from that era and for a long time afterwards because of the fantastic steering. Gone because they yanked the steering

secondly the mustang IIs do handle well and the cobra II will be a collectors item precisely because no one is bothering to save them.

Yea your right about them putting an iron duke in a Camaro--- but someone who has never seen them driving around with a 4 banger is hardly a Moron. I assumed that based on what I've seen in the past--- so I guessed wrong big woop.

@AMIgrad06 One other thing about mustang II's, they were built off the pinto platform (the rolling bomb), but at least it was the 1st mustang with rack and pinion steering.

The Mustang II's were probably the worst Mustangs built. It's hard to believe that 4 years earlier there were red hot Mustangs being built. Sad.

If you like Mustangs, great, they're cool cars. I'm just glad they didn't cheese out and put a 4 banger in a Camaro!

I'm just glad Ford didn't cheese out the Mustangs like Chevy did the Camaros in 2002, but I guess sales statistics don't mean jack....Yeah right!

Taking the Camaro out of produciton in 02 is better than making a 4 banger Camaro.
If you're all about sales stats than go for a Toyota, they out sell everybody.
As for Camaro's and Mustangs, regardless of their sales stats (popularity) I choose to like those cars because I just like them. I'm a chevy guy, so naturally I like Camaro's better.
My point still stands: You don't put a 4 banger in your flag ship american sports car... What if Corvette's came with 4 bangers, see my point?

did you know GM had the rights to the wankle rotary and planned on putting in the corvette. the dumped it and mazda rolled with it imagine that.... as a ford fan, i do not get why chevy guys view a ford clip and say go on about how things suck

no i didn't know that--- i thought they were just planning on putting the rotary in the Monza's--- but as for the corvette--- they might've had plans to do that, but they never actually did it! so my point still stands---
As for the Camaro, I didn't know they put the ironduke in them back then--- I guess they got me there.

@atdlusdriver ........they almost did. when the Corvette first came out there was NO 8 cyclinder version. It had a 6 cylinder inline called the Blue Flame, I think.

@SchwartzeBaron its all good man, I actually like the Mustang II's a lot. I'de never own one cuz I'm a Chevy guy. But, they're just like Henry J's. Everyone will pass them by until they see one thats all Hot Rodded out--- then they say "what kind of car is that?!" and they have no clue--- you can't do that with a Chevelle or a Charger, cuz they're already badass to begin with--- Its more fulfilling for me to build a car that is completely unique---- Thats why I'm into Monza's.

@atdlusdriver The early third gen camaros were advalible with a 4 banger, producing 68 horsepower.

@sabbath7 My 93 Z28 was rated 275hp. The mustang didn't reach or exceed that rating until the 05 model year (not including special models like the corbra and mach 1).

The problem wasn't the "economical 4 cylinder" it was the totally lacking Mach I that made the Mustang II unacceptable. If they had a 225 hp V8 in the "high performance" car and a good fun V6 in the Ghia the car's reputation might be different today. A gas sipping 4cyl option is one thing, but I think the V8 that year only put out about 139hp. That's just sad.

I still have my 1975 coupe with the engine tatally modified to 60's specs. #02 bored out to 306. 66 4V heads ported and polished. 10.5:1 flattops, 3-angle valve job, roller rockers and screw-in studs. Milled .025 heads and decked the block. Solid lifter Motorcraft cam........Traction-Lok rearend, C-4 redone by Mr. Norm himself. Nothing handles like it from that era and for a long time afterwards because of the fantastic steering. Gone because they yanked the steering

Its hard to believe that this car outsold the Camaro, Firebird, Cuda, Challenger, and Amc Javelin combined. Cuz this mustang was uglier than all of them combined.

The Mustang got ugly after 1073, and it stayed ugly until 1994, and those weren't too much better. It didn't get it's cool muscle look back until 2005.

Totally agree with you there. I think thats basically what happened to the rest of the muscle cars. Until now, and I mean obviously they're resurrecting them NOW (correctly at least lol) because of the economy and what not.

burgundy,black interior..wkd hard , shoveled , raked, mowed at 15,paid for it on my own,16-dropped a motor-lovely V6,kept her pretty, I forgot about her, had to park her in 87,went into the Marines.
SPRINGS-called, wrote letters, before internet & they had to be from a 1974... some day I will have a mustang fully loaded, till then I'll continue to pick races w/ them in my benz....

I purchased a '74 Mach I in 1981, kept it for 17 years. Boy what memories. I miss that car almost as much as I would one of my daughters.
