  • I bought one of these new. What a piece of crap. Probably why they are fairly rare today.

  • I don't speaking ill of any cars because there is always a fan of it somewhere, but Man, they really ruined the Mustang in 1974. It wasn't a pony car anymore. They ruined the Cougar too. The funny thing was it basically left the market to Camaro and Firebird, The AMC Javelin was the third best selling pony car in 74 outselling the Barracuda and Dodge Challenger.

  • disgrace to mustangs

  • I remember these as a kid. This is the year Mustang should not have come out. Total Garbage, shit filth

    "Bodeom TOTAL"

    FUCKING SHIT

  • I grow up on my dads 1974 mustang, i love it i cant wait to get the 5.0 engine on the car, i will put a pic of tha car, i have a 1996 mustang also with 5.0 engine, so stop talking shit about the mustangs.

  • If ford put a 4 cylinder in a mustag first y does everyone bitch about it being done in tokyo drift lol is it because it was a jap engine??? Its still a 4 cylinder

  • Epic fail Mustang.....

  • ahhh its hideous

  • 0:34 lolz

  • lol @ all the comments about how it was the auto manufacture's fault that they were making shitty cars in the 1970s. No, Ford wasn't "whining" about regulations, they were just following them while trying to compete well in the market. The market changed fast in the early 70s, from performance to luxury and economy.

Notice that the Mustang sold more than all of the other competition combined. It offered a 4 cylinder, most of the competition didn't. Coincidence? I don't think so.

  • Bob Hope would not have touched this car with a 10 ft pole. They probably told him he was advertising something else and just edited in the footage of him.

  • I hate those. By the way, that's not completely OPEC's fault. It was Ford whining about regulations. That's why the four cylinders got 22 mpg. It's also why when the V8 was brought back in '75, it had 122 hp and got 16 mpg.

  • What a disaster.

  • HFll once said "We're not in the business of making classics, we're in the business of making cars"! Well,he's right in a way.You may not like 'em now,but people really liked them when new. They weren't bad cars in an era of pure junk.As for not making classics,FoMoCo sure has turned out WAY MORE than their fair share, despite HF's statement to the contrary! Probably more than all other carmakers combined!Come back,Lee Iacocca...we need you to work your magic touch in styling again!!!

  • "Chevy doesnt even offer a 4 cylinder Camaro.." Well I should sure hope the Fack not..lol

Ahh the Ghia, the ugliest Mustang ever

  • @StoneCold75

At one time Chevy did in the early 80s, 82-85 I believe, with the F-Body Camaro; the 2.5L Iron Duke 4 ( awful engine!) with a 5speed.I hope those days never come back!

  • Being a Stangaholic (I own 5) I look at the Mustang II as the car that kept the Mustang name alive during a dark period for motor vehicles. If it wasn't for this car we probably wouldn't have Mustangs being produced today. The car would have died. BTW I do not own a Mustang II.

  • U G L Y you aint got no alibi! what a disgrace to the mustang name. (in my opinion)

  • By far the ugliest stang ever lol. Mustangs are the only car I want but if I could only get this..I'll ride my bicycle

  • This was Henry Ford II doing this to his father's company to make an extra buck. That's a sad American story.

  • Ahh....the Pinto-Stang. Certainly a slap to the face of the real Mustangs. Might as well just called it a Pinto. I actually got to drive a 1978 Cobra II once, the only thing I can say was it had the easiest steering of any car I've ever driven.

  • Ick. The Mustang II is the UGLIEST breed of Mustang I've ever seen! I've got a Mustang calendar, and January's picture is a '78 Mustang II. I'd rip the calendar off the wall, but the other months have cooler pictures.

  • Yeah it was a peice of shit, but it kept the Mustang name alive.... =)

  • Ya... but the Camaro wasn't an atrocious piece of garbage. I would gladly pay for a chevy over one of those pieces of crap, and let's not forget that this was the only generation save for today where the mustang cost less than the camaro.

  • At least this car looks much better than the 1979-86 Mustang's (those were what I consider it being the ugliest Mustang's ever built).

  • I did like the looks of the Mustang II's I just didn't like the weak powertrain, this was definitely the darkest era of the Mustang's and the automotive industry in general, this was the only year that the Mustang didn't offer the V8 option

  • lol the steering wheel is upside-down

  • "the Camaro doesn't even come with a 4 cylinder engine"

    THANK GOD!

  • @waterkeeper03 They did in 1982 but they dropped the engine sometime around 1985-86

  • @DeLorean4 I would love to see that article. Unfortunately for the Mustang, I believe you!

I guess that was just one of those points in history where we hadn't quite ironed out the bugs with what was a 'sports' car, and what wasn't. Add that to the emerging emissions concerns of that era and you get one cluster fuck of a car.

  • "i didnt know that"

yeah you fucking did know you're advertising the commercial you obviously had been told that before going in front of the camera:)

oh ford, why did you have to eff up the mustangs in the 70's? ahhhh

  • The Mustang II, one of the worst decisions ever, I knew that.

  • no the best stangs are 87-93

  • @Cook2430 The cheap fox platform? Er...no.

  • 38 seconds in: " I didn't know that" is ridiculous haha someone should make a remix of it.

as for the car, death never came soon enough for the Mustang ll. Just as bad, if not as often remembered, as the Pinto.

  • @7gabe0mike7 I have an old article where the Ford Pinto was put head to head with the Ford Mustang and a few other similar hatchbacks. The Pinto was actually faster.

  • i thing that mustang is the worst low power is so ugli i prefer the chevy camaro

  • This was just a conspiracy from chevy to get rid of the mustang!!JAJAJAJA Ugly as shit!!!! They almost f*cked up the legend!!!

  • best mustang

    1965-1970

    2005-2011

  • @UnIuckyChucky you forgot about 86-93

  • @ROBBY639 nope mustangs are great carsa that year is not a great year for cars

  • not a real mustang its ugly as a Chev

  • All you have to do is turn to the 1968 mustang commercials that touted the original 64 as a classic and one not to be hampered with. Then the 71-73 blimp then this pinto thing. Makes me puke. I got my license in 1979 and only drove OLD mustangs until 2006. Only then did I buy a new one.

  • Id drive it. What?!? Its better than a riced out honda.

  • They were nice inside my buddy in high school had one with a 302 in it

  • I had a 77 Ford Mustang II ghia with a velour interior, done in turquoise and had an original 8 track , and a 2.8 V6. The car was a royal POS and i ended up ditching it after a year. THe only redeeming factor is that Jaclyn Smith drove one very similar to it in Charlies Angels. She looked good in it anyway.

  • idk why people say it was fords fault for ruining it ... its the governments fault ... thats why a large majority of cars right after the muscle car era was so shitty, they had to go through all these regulations

  • I like the design.

  • The cameros iron puke was the Iroc Z. It was just as bad.

  • the camaro didn't offer a 4 banger in 1974 because it wasn't a glorified POS Pinto.

  • its still better than some piece of crap mulletboy crapmaro.

  • @spectre30075 BS. The camaro/firebird were a much better car than the mustang II. the II was a glorified pinto.

  • @pdennis93 a glorified pinto is better than a camaro, 'neck.

  • @pdennis93 Sure was. If the Pinto burned when hit from behind, did the Mustang explode?

  • @spectre30075 get the fuck outta heeaaaa this is th worst mustang yuu fckn haterr CHEVROLET is american too and th 1974 camaro looked 10x better then this piece of shit out my asss

  • @yoiwuzheryo I know it's the worst mustang, you retard. I said I'd still take it over the camaro. Learn to spell. No wonder you like Chevy's so much. Got a mullet?

  • @spectre30075 BRO! thats the point itried to prove! its a piece of shit, n prbbly fuckin like 9/10 ppl would take a camaro 10 years before this turd. and chevy is far from redneck douchebag

  • @yoiwuzheryo You're only proving my point. The more you type, the dumber you look. Chevy is as redneck as it gets. I personally hate the crapmaro, it doesn't matter how much you happen to love it. Deal with it, fuckface.

  • @spectre30075 aiight listen. GTFO! ! iz a kollige stoodent amd i is also be a redneck dat iz durmb,

    FUCK YOU...now go to bed.

  • @yoiwuzheryo Enjoy banging your sister, fuktard.

  • @spectre30075 sick life

  • @yoiwuzheryo yes, that is what you have.

  • This car is the Ugliest Mustang of History!!!

  • There will always be people who don't give a fu-ck about gas mileage or price.

    God Given Right

  • @365degrees Pride cometh before gas mileage.

  • @365degrees ...Did I say that?-lol

  • The mustang II was a great car,it was built in a time when smaller cars with better fuel economy were the trend do to sky rocketing oil prices.performace took a back seat in the mid to late 70's.quit bashing the II's.they were great looking and continued the mustang name

  • Im going to agree with you for the II's continuing the name but the exterior, just didnt seem nice for me.

  • My first new car Bright Red 2+2 Black Interior, 4 Speed, 4 Cylinder. $3,505 Sticker Price, Owened it for 8 Years, 100K Miles / Sold it for $1,000. Not bad service for such a lame car!

  • Bad times, it was nearly another 10 years before the Mustang had decent power again.

  • Yeah, I would have to say the next time the MUSTANG had the ability to kick the pavement would be 1985 when they offered the 4-barrel H.O. 302 rated at 210 HP. For its time, it was untouchable!

  • The year they ruined the Mustang.

  • haha 4 cilinder engin back then was big lol:P

  • your gay. "I didnt know that".....

  • Comment removed

  • @TheLizardKing1967 That's not OPEC. The American car companies were perfectly capable of making good cars, but instead, they chose to whine and make despicable garbage. Yes, I do also hate OPEC by the way.

  • @TheLizardKing1967 i didnt know that! lol

  • Comment removed

  • @TheLizardKing1967 no its supposed to be quote from the commercial

  • There was a Mach 1 option for '74? This is the first I have heard of that.

  • ooooooooooooo the year 1974. the black year of Mustangs........ we tend to be really quiet about that year.....

  • "Camaro doesn't even offer a four-cylinder engine" Yeah because they aren't a bunch of fags.

  • The Camaro actually did have the 2.5 Iron Duke fron 82-92. They're very rare, im sure most of them have been swapped.

  • actually it was 82-85. they dropped the POS "Iron Puke" after only a couple years in the 3rd gen because it was so underpowerd that the V6 not only out performed it but the V6 also got better fue mileage because you had to really abuse that crappy I4 to accelerate.

  • thank god someone else said it too...

  • @stephenswickedcool It was a gas crisis people wanted gas mileage they didn't care about power.

  • @stephenswickedcool but you are.

  • but you sure are.

  • I don't want a car that Bob Hope thinks is cool.

  • I had a '73 mustang Convertible with a 351CJ. The car was awesome.

The '74 Mustang was a piece of shit.

  • "small car headquarters" LOL!!!

  • Just be glad it became small and nimble instead of following it's sister the Cougar...huge, slow, and ugly. If it had gone that way there would have never been cars like my 2003 Mach 1 today.

  • The Mustang II should be crushed....all of them

  • The Mustang II was their worst model. Even worse was the Cobra II, a poor cousin to the Shelby Mustangs of the '60s.

A car that Carroll Shelby would NEVER build!

  • You are right on about the COBRA II. That car was a dishonor tot the COBRA name.

  • yeah I Agree nothing compare with the Shelby GT500 of 67,68'

  • Yes, and may that NEVER happen again to the Mustang!

  • first of all there ARE 4 banger camaros.

as mentioned before theyre known as the iron dukes.

secondly the mustang IIs do handle well and the cobra II will be a collectors item precisely because no one is bothering to save them.

  • look at all the missinformed clowns. here;s a clue for you morons who want to bash the II.The car rode, handled, AND outsold almost any other mustang. ANd yes they did put a 4 cyl in a crapmaro, an Iron Duke 4 banger

  • Yea your right about them putting an iron duke in a Camaro--- but someone who has never seen them driving around with a 4 banger is hardly a Moron. I assumed that based on what I've seen in the past--- so I guessed wrong big woop.

If you want to get in a pissing contest on who knows more about what, go ahead and make my day!

  • who is this guy atdlusdriver?

  • @AMIgrad06 One other thing about mustang II's, they were built off the pinto platform (the rolling bomb), but at least it was the 1st mustang with rack and pinion steering.

  • The Mustang II's were probably the worst Mustangs built. It's hard to believe that 4 years earlier there were red hot Mustangs being built. Sad.

  • Think about the gas shortage, higher insurence & the 55mph speed limit imposed by the federal gov.Back then.

At least they looked like mustangs!

    Unlike the 80's Euro virsions.

    I've got a couple

& the one will do 120 mph or so.

  • Thank hell they didn't put a 4 Banger in a Camaro!!! hahaha

that commercial is funny as shit!

  • Chevy always puts more H.P. in their Camaro than Mustang and still can't outsell it. That's funny as $hit

  • That's a very weak point to make; I don't know what they costed and who bought what; I don't care.

Sales statistics don't mean jack, otherwise that means the toyota carolla is better than us all---

If you like Mustangs, great, they're cool cars. I'm just glad they didn't cheese out and put a 4 banger in a Camaro!

  • atdlusdriver: Sales statistics don't mean jack. I'm just glad they didn't cheese out and put a 4 banger in a Camaro!

I'm just glad Ford didn't cheese out the Mustangs like Chevy did the Camaros in 2002, but I guess sales statistics don't mean jack....Yeah right!

  • Taking the Camaro out of produciton in 02 is better than making a 4 banger Camaro.

If you're all about sales stats than go for a Toyota, they out sell everybody.

As for Camaro's and Mustangs, regardless of their sales stats (popularity) I choose to like those cars because I just like them. I'm a chevy guy, so naturally I like Camaro's better.

My point still stands: You don't put a 4 banger in your flag ship american sports car... What if Corvette's came with 4 bangers, see my point?

  • did you know GM had the rights to the wankle rotary and planned on putting in the corvette. the dumped it and mazda rolled with it imagine that.... as a ford fan, i do not get why chevy guys view a ford clip and say go on about how things suck

  • no i didn't know that--- i thought they were just planning on putting the rotary in the Monza's--- but as for the corvette--- they might've had plans to do that, but they never actually did it! so my point still stands---

As for the Camaro, I didn't know they put the ironduke in them back then--- I guess they got me there.

  • @atdlusdriver ........they almost did. when the Corvette first came out there was NO 8 cyclinder version. It had a 6 cylinder inline called the Blue Flame, I think.

  • @SchwartzeBaron its all good man, I actually like the Mustang II's a lot. I'de never own one cuz I'm a Chevy guy. But, they're just like Henry J's. Everyone will pass them by until they see one thats all Hot Rodded out--- then they say "what kind of car is that?!" and they have no clue--- you can't do that with a Chevelle or a Charger, cuz they're already badass to begin with--- Its more fulfilling for me to build a car that is completely unique---- Thats why I'm into Monza's.

  • @atdlusdriver The early third gen camaros were advalible with a 4 banger, producing 68 horsepower.

  • @sabbath7 My 93 Z28 was rated 275hp. The mustang didn't reach or exceed that rating until the 05 model year (not including special models like the corbra and mach 1).

  • i like all mustangs 1964-2009

  • The problem wasn't the "economical 4 cylinder" it was the totally lacking Mach I that made the Mustang II unacceptable. If they had a 225 hp V8 in the "high performance" car and a good fun V6 in the Ghia the car's reputation might be different today. A gas sipping 4cyl option is one thing, but I think the V8 that year only put out about 139hp. That's just sad.

  • FORD POWER!

MustangII, The Only Car For Me!

    78 & 78!

    GET"R"DONE & HAVING FUN!

  • a suped up pinto all it was

  • the best handling mustang of all times ( and the cobra 2 beats the 1967 shelby GT500 :) )

  • @trilpen ....dead on. I still have my 1975 coupe with the engine tatally modified to 60's specs. #02 bored out to 306. 66 4V heads ported and polished. 10.5:1 flattops, 3-angle valve job, roller rockers and screw-in studs. Milled .025 heads and decked the block. Solid lifter Motorcraft cam........Traction-Lok rearend, C-4 redone by Mr. Norm himself. Nothing handles like it from that era and for a long time afterwards because of the fantastic steering. Gone because they yanked the steering

  • Mustang II sucks... "I didn't know that!"

  • junkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunkjunk

  • Failed,Failed,Failed,Failed,Failed,Failed, and Failed! Boy what a piece of crap that car was!

  • Its hard to believe that this car outsold the Camaro, Firebird, Cuda, Challenger, and Amc Javelin combined. Cuz this mustang was uglier than all of them combined.

  • I'll pass on this one. Nothing more than a Pinto. Even Charlie's Angels driving them couldn't make them look cool. I'll stay with my '92 5.0.

  • 1992 is plastic junk

  • The Mustang got ugly after 1073, and it stayed ugly until 1994, and those weren't too much better. It didn't get it's cool muscle look back until 2005.

  • Totally agree with you there. I think thats basically what happened to the rest of the muscle cars. Until now, and I mean obviously they're resurrecting them NOW (correctly at least lol) because of the economy and what not.

  • Are you crazy, the foxbodies were, in my opinion, the best exterior Ford ever made to the Mustang.

  • Not mustang after: 1973

  • a few blocks away from my house there is 1 for sale for about 19,000

  • Bult from the Pinto platform/chassis.

  • CAMAROS WAY BETTER THESE I DIDNT EVEN KNOW EXISTED so to quote wat they are saying,, I DIDNT KNOW THAT-THESE CARS EXISTED

  • burgundy, black interior..wkd hard , shoveled , raked, mowed at 15,paid for it on my own,16-dropped a motor-lovely V6,kept her pretty, I forgot about her, had to park her in 87,went into the Marines.

SPRINGS-called, wrote letters, before internet & they had to be from a 1974... some day I will have a mustang fully loaded, till then I'll continue to pick races w/ them in my benz....

  • "i didnt known that" like the mach 1 ,1975 they drop in a 302 v8 "score mustang ll bordom 0" 1977 ?not sure what year they used that slogan or bill cosby "ford wants to be your car company" funny how after 34 years i still rember them . we had75 mustangs,75 novas, 75 firebrids , as driver ed cars dealers figured when we turned 16 we'd ask are parents to buy us one mine didnt then we had the tuna boats 74-75 galixie, catalina for freeeway driving

  • One of Ford's "Better Idea" cars of that period which also included the Granada, Elite, Maverick and Pinto; and Mercury Cougar XR-7, Monarch, Comet Bobcat and the German-built Capri. Ford Division also offered "MPG" versions of their smaller cars in mid-1975 and 1976 specifically for high gas mileage including Pinto and Mustang with the 2.3 liter four-cylinder/four-speed; and the Granada MPG with 200 six-banger and three on the tree

  • I love the Mustang II ! My family bought 3 of them in 74 and we kept them for about 15 years!!! A real staple in my life! ~Alx

  • I purchased a '74 Mach I in 1981, kept it for 17 years. Boy what memories. I miss that car almost as much as I would one of my daughters.

  • The II does feel like a family member.
