This test is on a 2004 model GX with no side curtain airbags i believe. People who compare it to the civic and lancer need to know that those test are on newer vehicles equipped with side curtain airbags. Now since the Mazda uni-body hasn't changed since 2004 there haven't been tests done with curtains. I own a 2007 GS and it came standard with curtains. Now the 2010 was retested and it achieved higher overall grade from IIHS because it was tested with curtain airbags and maybe other factors.

All the plastic parts shatter, that happens on any car. The important part is thet the roof doesnt buckle and the door doesnt bend too much. This car does a great job surviving the impact.

Probably because even if you're going over 40, hopefully by the time you realize there's a problem you can at least slow down to 40 before impact. Otherwise you're really not paying attention.

I had just paid off my 2006 Mazda3 sedan when two weeks later a guy runs a light as I am going through the intersection. Hit him on the right front wheel. Had burn/bruise on my forearm from the airbag. The crash moved the engine enough it caused the insurance company to total it. I liked the car so much I went right out and bought a 2007 model in the same color with all the same features. An added benefit was the 07 model came with side airbags as standard equipment.

It looks good to me. The cabin was held together very well. The pillars that holds the cabin did not bend: which is a very good thing. (Last thing you want is cabin loosing its integrity). Now, cabin looked very rigid (you should look at what 3 or 2 star cars look like and how the cabin is all crushed i.e. Range Rover). But they didnt show the interior which the engine might have pushed gas and brake paddles back. But looked very safe from what I can see.

hmm... I own a 3 as well... mazdaspeed suspension and gunmetal oz's. That's all I feel it will ever need. They're beautiful and drive brilliantly. But, are you people fucking blind! The seatbelts totally didn't retract or even lock fast enough. That dummy's head was almost between the steering wheel and looked like it nailed the door frame. You better believe this is a concern I'm bringing up to my dealer!

That crash dummy costs $250k, and its loaded with inertial and kinetic sensors to measure the loads placed on it. A "good" rating from the NHTSA means that you stand a good chance of walking away from a 40 mph head on offset impact, the most difficult head on collision to protect against. Dont forget there is also an airbag between your face and the steering wheel.

hehe Yep it hurts :P But damn im happy with the Car :D Its normal around here where i come from... Let me give you an example... Lets say i want a BMW M3, it cost in Silly Danish price 1.400.500Kr... (1USD = around 5KR - dunno exact number but its around tht) so 1.400.500/5 = 280.100USD :)

I had just paid off my 2006 Mazda3 sedan when two weeks later a guy runs a light as I am going through the intersection. Hit him on the right front wheel. Had burn/bruise on my forearm from the airbag. The crash moved the engine enough it caused the insurance company to total it. I liked the car so much I went right out and bought a 2007 model in the same color with all the same features. An added benefit was the 07 model came with side airbags as standard equipment.

Hey guys i have a question, im looking to buy a Mazda3 next month, im gona pay cash and not finance so that should give me a good deal and knock off a few thou in the price tag. The Mazda3 GT is around $20,000 and with navigation it should come outa bit under $22,000. Any 1 have experience bargaining with dealers for a good price? Im wondering if i can buy this car for $20,000 even, including the dealer tax and all. Is it possible? What do u guys think?

It looks good to me. The cabin was held together very well. The pillars that holds the cabin did not bend: which is a very good thing. (Last thing you want is cabin loosing its integrity). Now, cabin looked very rigid (you should look at what 3 or 2 star cars look like and how the cabin is all crushed i.e. Range Rover). But they didnt show the interior which the engine might have pushed gas and brake paddles back. But looked very safe from what I can see.

hmm... I own a 3 as well... mazdaspeed suspension and gunmetal oz's. That's all I feel it will ever need. They're beautiful and drive brilliantly. But, are you people fucking blind! The seatbelts totally didn't retract or even lock fast enough. That dummy's head was almost between the steering wheel and looked like it nailed the door frame. You better believe this is a concern I'm bringing up to my dealer!

There is a delay built in to decelerate your body over as much distance as possible to minimize your chances of injury. That crash dummy costs $250k, and its loaded with inertial and kinetic sensors to measure the loads placed on it. A "good" rating from the NHTSA means that you stand a good chance of walking away from a 40 mph head on offset impact, the most difficult head on collision to protect against. Dont forget there is also an airbag between your face and the steering wheel.
