  • @bluepool100 Actually the procedure itself usually doesn't hurt at all as the patient is generally anesthetized. What's more, about 90% of conventional and microdiscectomies are successful, which is to say, the patients usually feel immediate benefit.

    What "hurts" is the condition that made them see a surgeon in the first place. If left untreated, the pain can be unbearable, and often lead to permanent nerve damage.
