The only other choice you have for better audio video quality for putting stuff up on the web is if you use an actual video camera. but as far as webcams go, the pro 9000 is still in the top 3
I was thinking of returning my Logitech C500 in favour of the Quickcam Pro 9000. It would have cost me about $30-40 extra from the Quickcam, so this just saved me some money for some other "toys" for the computer!
to the boneheads criticizing this guy.. Ive got the same camera and its a POS.. it doesnt matter where the gain is set. It doesnt matter what drivers are used..it has some funky echo effect on my voice that I cant get rid of and Im an expert with respect to building pcs
I bought this webcam but it would not install on windows 7. Also it won't physically attach to my computer. I think the design of the attachment is not very good.
Thank you captain obvious. I think someone needs to learn to use a computer and how to adjust the mic gain and that yeah you need light to see things with them same as regular film cameras need sunlight o a flash. As far as being able to get good results out of any webcam, that comes down to if your an idiot or know what your doing.
Thank you, I know how to adjust the mic gain, and I know how how these things work, as I am a trained engineer in electronics. If you think that getting good results out of any webcam comes down to being an idiot or not, than you are the idiot.

ehy man great rewiev! i have a question..when i choose 1280x720 HD video resolution, frame on video go very slow down. i go like aaammh...a bionic man t-t-t-t-t XD i have a i7 cpu and usage is only 2%!! and i have 6 giga of ram! any helps??
It slows down because the FPS is decreased as the resolution is increased. If you record a video at 640x480, for example, the FPS is 30. (30 frames per second) but when you go to the 1280x720 resolution it may drop to 10 FPS. I don't know what it drops to on this web cam so check your spec sheet. I use an Orbit cam and 640x480 is the max I can go while maintaining 30 fps. If you want HD while maintaining the higher frame rate you may need to get a good camcorder. Bottom line is: RESEARCH.
Thanks for the review... I picked one up today and the video quality is good but the microphone is horrible. It picks up the sound of my voice okay, but any variation or strum of the guitar and it clicks or goes static. Its too sensitive to most things and not sensitive enough to the rest. So far, I have not been able to fix this issue and I'm considering returning it to the store.
Well herp derp but he was trying to explain that when you are paying that much for a good webcam (used to cost around 200 a couple years ago), the microphone quality shouldn't skimp. Microphone quality should not be looked as a side feature, it should be probably one of the main ones next to the lens itself.
I JUST got one today, but mine is the newer "Webcam Pro 9000", which is the newer version of this webcam, and I am not having any of the problems/issues that you talk about. My video was so good that my nephew even saw my cat 10 feet behind me in my room and commented on her, which amazed me, I couldn't believe how well he could see behind me. And he said my voice/sound was great. Maybe like I said, it's because this is the newer version of this cam.
iI GOT THIS WEBCAM BUT MINE IS THE 2009 MODEL LOGITECH WEBCAM PRO 9000 AND IT HD EVERYHING WORK GOOD ON MINE BUT U CRYING LIKE A BITCH OVER A WEBCAM WHAT U EXPECT EVERYTHING THEY MAKE COME FROM CHINA U DICK HEAD
Thx for the review. This was the first review that didnt consist of yelling how great the camera is and what funny noses you cann attach to your face with it. I won't buy it now.
Thank you so much for this honest review. Reviews should always be this way. Indeed, I was ready to buy a logitech Pro 9000, but listening to your review, I will not. Mostly because I didn´t like that thing "up to 30fps", without specifying in what resolutions we have it. Currently, there are other webcams from philips capablem of 60fps or even 90fps, but I´m not sure they are still the best thing...
I completely agree...I just bought and returned that same model for notebooks and the brightness adjustment flickers while recording and the sound clips/clicks if you are too loud.
Corporate-think goes like this: "Oh shit, we've detected a problem with our Gizmo 12000, we better not put it into production. Oh wait, our investors will kill us, let's just put some text on the box which claims that the weakness is a strength and screw the customer rather than the investor. Problem solved!"
e.g. you buy some food with "TASTY!" in large letters. Steer clear, food is implicitly tasty.
Important thing about webcams, dont use their built in microphones they are and always will be crap, buy a decent headset instead. It's just like laptops that have built in microphones they are the worst crap as well, its there because its an inexpensive feature to throw in.
First off, I don't care about the microphone. I have another one that I use. Plus, I'd mainly be doing stop motion. Second, for the lighting, just shine 2-3 lamps on the area you're in. And It's not like you'd be making all your videos with this webcam. That's what a camcorder's for.
rightlight setting is not worth a fuck cos it puts the exposure way up. thats wht it goes slow in that mode, i still think he has his exposure up too high on this vid many thats why its out of sync /.
i bought a 9000 a couple of days ago, i agree with some of his points.
the issue i have with it is verticle lines when i try to put the brightness or exposure up to compensate for low light.. that sucks, i contacted loigitech... no help.
i bought this cam about a few days back after seeing all the great reviews, didn't come across even a single negative review until i bought it :(,the thing is i'm also facing the same problem with the mic,i've turned down the mic vol all the way down but it still crackles whenever i hit the high notes(they're not even that high to begin with)and sometimes even when when i don't.any solution for this?
well you need to set your sound settings to fix the microphone.and with the low light condition you need to adjust that also and fix the surrounding lights in the room
I have this camera. I use it so the grand parents can talk to the grandkids. It works fine. The microphone can be adjusted and the lighting is adequate. Whenever I see people posting picky negative reviews of something I run right out and buy it because it usually means that it is a solid product. Its not brilliant at one thing but good at every thing. Like someone mentioned earlier...
Why not ? this thing costs a fortune so why not build one that has the lot ?
when you consider that you can buy a decient qaulity digicam cheap these days, i dont see the issue with building the ultimate webcam... explain yourself.
I'll explain then. One person's perfect picture is another person's bad picture. What you might consider bad sound someone else might consider acceptable. That's the problem with this type of review, in order for me to get your results I would have to run the same PC, screen, motherboard, videocard, etc, and even then I would still have a different interpretation of the results than you.
All I'm saying is people should take reviews with a grain of salt. Thats all.
I think the mic has remedial fixes, tweek the controls. They turn it up because many talk too low when using IMs. It has a sensitive mic, and it can be turned down. But kids talk quietly so mom and dad can't hear what they're up to!
It is a didicated cam, and better than most "web" cams. IF it could be used as a camera, it would be multi purpose, but it is only a web cam, better than most out there. Comparring with other multipurpose cams is like apples and oranges.
Nice review. I also purchase the logitech 9000 and don't like it much. The image is blurry. Does any of you know of another brand which is superior to this webcam?
yeah thats exactly what happens alright. you can't do a video to close to the mic it picks up everything when you sing .the quality of video differs too. the more i turn the mic volume down it picks up even more distortion
A webcam isn't the best idea to record TV with for many reasons, especially one that can't handle light sensitivity that well (most webcams). TV broadcasts continuously show different areas of contrast and light in different parts of the screen at one time, which will cause the webcam to constantly try to adjust to the lighting. It's not the same as a video camera at-all.
You're better off investing in a TV Capture card, which would allow you to hook a TV up to your PC to record that way.
Hi, I wanted to ask you if the focus can be set on manual or Can you disable the autofocus?, also can you rotate the image 180 degres, and flip it horizontally with the camera's software? Thanks
I just bought this webcam yesterday, The image quality is great, lighting is no issue at this since im in an office. However mic issues are a factor. What kind of mic should i use if i were going to sing and record my voice?
First thing. Vokalists dont use webcam microphone and logitech software to record their voice. Second. If you dont happy with80$ cam quality you have to look at HD camcorders at least for 800$.
i own one of this webcam.its not the greatest webcam for sure.lighting condition is poor.even in bright day light image looks dark.its the only thing i am not happy with this webcam.i think quick cam sphere is the best one in the market
I agree just having bought one. Use a different mic and found that the motion was a problem...Still tring to geta good picture uploaded to You Tube! But I think I am pleased with the improvment in picture quality!
Indeed, the mic is bad. Actually, I really don't understand why would they put a microphone in the camera? All computers have an analogue sound card which is much better than a mic on a USB interface!
Typical problem with digital products. Manufacturers lie or don't tell you important information and when you take it back you get the old "the problem is your PC not our product".
I wonder how you can make the vid so 'smooth'; the frame rate is amazing. I've tried playing around with various settings, yet, the video still jitters a bit; this is the total opposite.
Really usful info, still not sure what to buy! I want to use it for making videos doing painting demos for my website, currently I'm using my old spacecam 500 and its really blurred.
Good review. They are just using a good lens to try and sell this camera. The best webcam for low light is the Philips Toucam Pro II or Philips SPC900NC.
with video quality like this who needs to use its crappy mic. can't you just bypass it? the light issue you could work around. anyway,I guess it has its cons.
i think its a good point about the low light sensitivity, you held up an old camera and it performed better, i would think it was because of the yellow rubber outside the lense. very interesting how the rubber could affect how well it performs in low light. just my theory. maybe a person could rig up their existing webcam and test it out, it could be revolutionary.
I just installed mine but all the pictures are blurry if there is any movement in the video frame. I have tried auto focus and manual focus and seems to be no difference. I want this to show products to sell on my website but all the movement is very blurred. So, not sure where the problem is. I have 2gb ram and vista op system. Any ideas??
Try adjusting the exposure downwards. You may not be getting the full 30 frames per sec. JJC...forgotten the rest of his name...does a good vid about checking this using windows movie maker.
the greatest webcam on the market now is the philips spc 1300, but philips promised a usa market release months ago but instead have been stupid and uninformative about that information while selling it in europe so theyve lost me as a customer.
The clipping you are experiencing is caused by boosting the audio from the microphone too much. The older webcam's mic is less sensitive and perhaps has a greater impedance as well it is therefore fine with your current audio settings.
Try turning off the "__dB Boost" in your audio mixer.
I agree with you, especially about the sound. I have a quiet voice and have needed to used a headset mic with this webcam. So it's not just loud voices it can't handle.
I've also had the same light problems. To get the 30 frames per sec, you need the exposure right down, which makes the pic dark.
I have this web cam and have had none of the issues you have had

AnatolyGuitar 3 years ago
what kind of mics do voalists use is my question, my webcam has great quality anyway.
aznone8seven 3 years ago
i own one of this webcam.its not the greatest webcam for sure.lighting condition is poor.even in bright day light image looks dark.its the only thing i am not happy with this webcam.i think quick cam sphere is the best one in the market

I agree just having bought one. Use a different mic and found that the motion was a problem...Still tring to geta good picture uploaded to You Tube! But I think I am pleased with the improvment in picture quality!

I don't have problems with low light but I have sound problems :(
bestiaccia 3 years ago
Indeed, the mic is bad. Actually, I really don't understand why would they put a microphone in the camera? All computers have an analogue sound card which is much better than a mic on a USB interface!

When it's too dark, manually set the RightLight Settings.
1. unclick the "Use Automatic Rightlight Settings"
2. Set the "Low Light Boost" all the way to the left. The video will smoother.

ugly old man shut the hell up.
you don't know anything about technology so you shouldn't be talking.
and the mic is really good on the webcam, look at all the others posting a video with this webcam.

Typical problem with digital products. Manufacturers lie or don't tell you important information and when you take it back you get the old "the problem is your PC not our product".

Where you buyed this great webcam (Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000)??
EliaForce1984ita 3 years ago
Hi,
I wonder how you can make the vid so 'smooth'; the frame rate is amazing.

The best webcam for low light is the Philips Toucam Pro II or Philips SPC900NC.

joeyissoweird 4 years ago
Logitech Orbit MP is better.
sirfatalx 4 years ago
with video quality like this who needs to use its crappy mic. can't you just bypass it? the light issue you could work around. anyway,I guess it has its cons.
erictmellow 4 years ago
i think its a good point about the low light sensitivity, you held up an old camera and it performed better, i would think it was because of the yellow rubber outside the lense. very interesting how the rubber could affect how well it performs in low light. just my theory. maybe a person could rig up their existing webcam and test it out, it could be revolutionary.

JJC...forgotten the rest of his name...does a good vid about checking this using windows movie maker.
muskndusk 4 years ago
the greatest webcam on the market now is the philips spc 1300, but philips promised a usa market release months ago but instead have been stupid and uninformative about that information while selling it in europe so theyve lost me as a customer.
utubesucks2003 4 years ago
cool vid are you having sound problems like me?
Whenever i record the sound is off from my face
jayharley1 4 years ago
The clipping you are experiencing is caused by boosting the audio from the microphone too much. The older webcam's mic is less sensitive and perhaps has a greater impedance as well it is therefore fine with your current audio settings.
Try turning off the "__dB Boost" in your audio mixer.
conrad1415 4 years ago
Simple, if you don't want a high-quality webcam, don't buy it
Personally, I think technology will eventually upgrade everything, eventually the high-quality lenses will become a standard
Also, I the mic and light issues are just preference issues on your system
NiGHTSChao689 4 years ago
I agree with you, especially about the sound. I have a quiet voice and have needed to used a headset mic with this webcam. So it's not just loud voices it can't handle.
I've also had the same light problems. To get the 30 frames per sec, you need the exposure right down, which makes the pic dark.
