I am pretty sure that was a HUGE blow to his head (he was hit by a suspension coil); not to long ago I changed the suspension on my car and put in coils too, the same style as these race cars, and the weight of only one of the coils was at least 15 lbs, now imagine being hit with it at 200+ mph, poor Massa

The coil that hit massa weighed around 1.76 lbs (=800 grams), and that's still a lot at a 170 mph

i think they calculated it and it was something like

the hit from that was like being hit by a 700kg VW Beetle straight in the head for 0.4-0.5 or something seconds... scary stuff...

helmet saved his life... i saw a documentary on them, they're bulletproof and you can slam a spike in to them with 50kg weight from 1m and no dent will be made
