When I was an addict myself in San Francisco, on a Thanksgiving night in Union Square i still went and asked the finest restaurants if they would lend to a cause of my own to what might be left over if I could give to the poor. I was loaded up with BOXES, turkey legs and danish, loads of it. each homeless person I went to, I kneeled down and said "take your pick". I must of fed 10-15 people as there wasnt a whole lot, they kicked out quick in that area. still I enjoyed doing it.
Been there...now...over 8 years later...freedom from active addiction..miracles do happen...I carry it to the next suffering addict...everyday, every chance I get....
So much judgement in this world.. could u imagine the mountains they could climb if they just had love or someone who believed in them instead of critisizing all they know just to feel something? Pity we live in such a judgemental society where corporate conglamerates get richer and don't want to wrinkle their Armani suits by lending a hand. Sad. I pray for all of those who have lost their way. Beautiful song.
@luderick62 I don't think so brother ! If you listen very carefully, you'll hear sometimes ^^ Anyway, this music is truly unique, so powerful and so beautiful ! It makes me want to believe in humans...
This is one of my fav songs, I love this song. I sing it every time when I am alone and upset, I cry and cry. I want to be friend with those homeless and helpless and hopeless people. I wish I could do something for these homeless people, But my love and prayers are always with them. This song is the most moving song ever. God bless all of those homeless and Hopeless people. <3
It's a great song, and w/ the pics you added, I really can't express the emotional impact. I go back a few years and remember the impact of the Velvet Undergroud's "Heroin" which was very cynical and in an ironic way romanticized smack. Junkie Song is much better and more to the point, also it doesn't blame the victim, which is the same spirit as the pics you added. This humanizes people - it's a screwed up world that drives people to this, which includes child victims as portrayed here.
No words can accurately describe the beauty, the tragedy and the humanity of this song. I am deeply moved every time I hear it. Seeing what accompanied the audio was equally powerful and haunting.
beautiful like the salt from a tear when you taste the bitter sweet dripps that flow from your eyes as you feel lifes bite in every sadness that you see.
this song makes me extremely sad. the images used as well. but its one of those songs i could listen to over and over again. & for that i am emotionally drained.
Getting on toward 20 years up now, and my amends I make to people I can't make amends to is to give to street junkies whenever they ask. Every dollar I give is a dollar that doesn't need to be stolen, so it's making amends for when I had to steal to get by.
Good for you, been there too people don't realize how easy it can happen no one set's out to become a junkie I still have so much guilt, that is wat threatens my sobriety
@valburge I'm right there with you, 8 years clean of meth. on top of my world, hang in there, not sure about you of course but i myself was one of these pictures, if you were too, then the past is then, today is what counts, plan for tomorrow, cheers.
ok, you probably will not like this, but i am a recovering addict, not junk, but close---- but sympathy does not help--- take a close look here--- treatment and clinics, as well as a semi-legalization are required. But no one can kick alone--- so make a friend, and yes, it is painfull
i went to vancouver this year for a missions trip on the down town east side (east hastings) and this describes everything we were all feeling as we were helping
The day we accept the shared element in the people and things around us, compassion becomes a necessity. How can we not love something when we realize it is a part of us? Humanity seems to be waking up to the idea that we aren't separate from the world, 'bout time =D
Olu Dara on trumpet really hits this so hard, the song is beautiful and he puts it over the top, it's the antithesis of the trumpet that comes in at the end of "When a Man Loves a Woman" as a musical dork counterpoint, that's what I feel.
This song touches home. BGT's are from Vancouver and its Skytrain statiions. Big junkie and homeless population, especially in one area in the Downtown Eastside. But every city has its own area like this.
Good job WaitsWeights. But I'd love to see a video with local clips. I wish they'd do an official vid like that with this song. One of my favorites. So haunting and sad.
This is an absolutely heartbreaking video. I think you've touched some people, here. very well done. I might not get some of those images out of my head, though. That's the mark of a message that's been spread succesfully.
I remember living in a house with 3 junkies and they were awake and hitting up in the morning with the curtain open and the sun shining and China white all over the washer ...and I thought why is one of them banging in his leg? What 's he saying to the neighborhood ?He became a Christian 2 years later I do not know if he still alive ...If its Crack or junk sometimes their skin pops like some of those photos because the drug is to strong and burns their skin like blood blisters...
If you have children, then you're involved. You love them, you wish them the best, you love them despite the junkie they have become. And yes, junkies deserved to be loved. Perhaps more so than people who are straight and don't have problems with housing, health care, legal rights, and the accessability of medical help for their problems (methadone, etc.). We birth them, but we can still fight for them. You may not have asked to be born, but you can be healed.
grats you are diferent ! ..hope you enjoy it .

Past mistakes don't auto make you a bad person. Life is day to day and you decide who and what you are.
Nice tune from an excellent band, real reason I'm here.
