Being part of Britain is nothing to do with the name e.g The Faeroe Islands is partially part of the British isles but has never been part of Great Britain. Indeed the reason Great Britain is so called is because is it the largest of the British Isles. However there does seem to be a large number of ill educated people who think it is some sort of jingoistic political term
