Oh yeah, and I do agree that DOA is superior to Tekken in terms of fluid movements, smooth controls and feel.
But I just cant stand playing this game with my HRAP arcade stick.
Why should Free-Stepping be in a seperate button? It's like, I have to constantly hold down the Free-step button while I'm controlling the character with my balltop in order to move freely throughout the stage. Not to mention the other buttons I have to press. i.e, block, punch, kick, ect...
That's why DOA3 is arguably the best in the series. It used a much better circle strafing mechanic and the stages were just the best Ive ever seen in a fighting game. Plus for kasumi players like myself she was just pure power! It sucks that they took some of her power moves out of DOA4 =(.
@drsc YES! My only beef with the game is the f**king side step. Side step should always be a 1 button input, not hold this then do that, not in a fighting game where time is a factor lol. Other then that I have had a lot of fun playing this :D
@gamemaster14neo Tekken and doa can't even be compared. Who could think either were copying the other lol. DOA is about the chance game with it's counters and defense while Tekken is a momentum game that is based mostly on how long your offense can last and the timing to pull it off. Tekken has parries and counters and very good defense as well but just not with every character cuz not every style is defensive. Tekken has more to offer I think but DOA is so beautifully smooth. Both are great.
your WRONG i've personally used the trick, and played the volleyball mini game, part of the trick was removing the memory card, using controller 2 slot only, but can't recall the settings for time limit, difficulty ,ect.I've also offered $50.00 CASH for anyone finding and making the trick known ,just tell me where to send the CASH. note there will be a total of FOUR small boxes, where CG gallery box is when game is totally unlocked.
Offer me any kind of proof of this and I will believe you, but the only time I have ever heard of volleyball in doa2 was Itagaki said it was originally an idea he had for doa2 but he simply never did it and eventually made it into its own game.
i never thought that the japanese ver. of this game have a lower ris graphics compared to the US ver. of DOA2 hardcore i was so happy when i got the hardcore version untill it's scratched badly and stop working now it's no where to be found on games stores i only find the jap ver. but when i start playing it. there is no polishing on the levels and on the charecters and lower lightning effects no galleri mode and they have removed some cutscenes and levels and low number of costumes to unlock.
The original doa 2 game for ps2 didnt really have lower res graphics, sure they empolyed a couple of tweeks to make hardcore in the usa look better but the underlying graphic quality is basically the same.
They didnt remove anything from the japanese version they just added them for the usa version. the first version of doa2 on dreamcast had no unlockables.
The ultimate ps2 version of doa2 is DOA2 Hard*Core japanese version with even more costumes then the usa version.
wow i didn't know about these thanks. but i am sure about some stuff like when you fight in that level that you start fighting on a roof of a house than you can knock your foe out to fall in an alley that's in hardcore but you can't do that in DOA2 the jap ver. also there is no age setting in the japanese ver.
But of course since the japanese version is always the most ultimate, they did make a new version after the usa version and added stuff to it just so japan had the best version.
I will probably be posting videos of the Japanese Hard*Core version at some point. It has a Turbo mode simular to the street fighter games which was not in the usa version.
The Dojo level was only playable once the ps2 version came out, sure it was there on dreamcast but not defaultly playable (unless you know how to edit the game like you do). Basically all they did was add collision detection to the walls for the ps2 version.
man this was my fav DOA game ever no matter what others were ok

In doa3 and above all you have to do to free step/side step is hit up or down twice quickly.
gamemaster14neo 2 years ago
@gamemaster14neo
Yeah, I know. Sucks though because DOA2 is my favorite one in the series.
drsc 2 years ago
Really? I mean DOA2 was good back in the day but DOA3 fixed a lot of things people hated about 2 and refined the fighting engine quite a bit.
187Sozum 1 year ago
@gamemaster14neo Actually you just simply press up or down to Free Step. You don't have to double tap like in Tekken.

Is copy of Tekken

I honestly think Dead or Alive has far surpassed tekken. The gameplay in doa flows much more smoothly compared to tekken.
Saying doa is a copy of tekken is like saying every 2d fighting game with projectile moves is a copy of street fighter which simply isnt true.

It takes a bit of reference from Tekken but this game series has much more smoother gameplay. Which makes it a hell of lot easier.

does anyone recall the way to unlock the mini volleyball game in DOA2 hardcore
blackle4ps3 2 years ago
There is no volleyball mini game in DOA2 Hardcore.
Itagaki was thinking of doing something like that but decided against it, and of course it eventually became its own game.

how to do the counter hold in hardcore?
ssbb522 2 years ago
In post cases you press the hold button along with back up diagonal for high hits, back for middle hits and back down diagonal for low hits.
