I think he was backstage with a woman and the police told them to break it up. He insulted the police officer and then got sprayed with mace. He was arrested onstage during the show for attempting to incite a riot by telling the crowd that a policeman had sprayed him with mace backstage.

he was making out with a woman backstage and the officer (not knowing who he was) told him to stop. he refused and the bastard maced him . when the officer found out who he maced he apologized, but that pissed jim off more (what, because i'm famous you don't mace me? implying that even if he wasn't he shouldn't be maced). so he got onstage and told the story to the crowd, which the powers that be couldn't abide. so he was arrested and told, quote, "you've gone too far."
