She sang all the three Brünhildes in Sarbrücken when she was twenty and something... Well before her Sieglinde with Furtwängler. Amazing, she managed to survive and to last so long! She's unic! Thanks for this rarity, I didn't know it existed.
She sounds amazing and YES IT'S A PITY WE HEAR ONLY ABOUT 44 SECONDS OF SINGING! I'm certain she could sing the entire Immolation Scene. And it's a shame this movie is not accessible!
I have never managed to find this movie, and it hasn't turned up on TV in years. Made in Germany by Republic Pictures, it was originally 2.5 hours long, and was the Royal Command Performance film of 1955, but Republic took fright and cut it to 93 minutes, wrecking a weakly-scripted film of some dignity. Time for restoration, I think! Leonie did sing the Walkure Brunnhilde (in the same week as Gilda!) in her early years.
Anyone know where I can rent or buy the movie Magic Fire ? Is it on Netflix ? I'd love to see this movie...I love opera themed movies...Leonie Rysanek sounds like a good Brunhilde but this was only a brief little bit...who know if she could handle all of Brunnhilde...she was more of a dramatic-lyric soprano
