jonathan Butler is in a class by himself Akon is not a R&B singer to me sometimes I wish that particular singers like JonathAN bUTLER WOULD COME BACK TO BLO9W ALOT OF THESE R&B SSINGERS OUT THE WATER
I haven't heard this song in years until I saw the video on VH1 Soul. This just took me back to my childhood. Sad that they don't make good jams like this these days =(.
Oh I remember this song way back ..... JONATHAN - you have come a long way from Cape Town....You still do it for me..... Sebe ( long time from Swaziland)
i never forgot jonathan butler. This was my favorite by him. This shit they play 2day is a joke. All of it, r&b, hip-hop. I dont even listen to it. And the greatest time ever was indeed the 80s. Hands down.
Over 20 years ago, I was working as a bellman one late night at the Omni Hotel in Detroit. Nobody was in the lobby, when all of a sudden this song started to be played on the piano. It was thee, Jonathan Butler! He was staying at our hotel. He even sang the song. It echoed throughout the whole lobby. It was AWESOME, until stupid security kicked him off the piano. I apologized on behalf of the security guard. Mr. Butler said it was okay, he was just doing his job. He was one cool dude.
@SoulAoc ~ Sad but true. Im not sure what the music industry is lookin for when it comes to true vocalist, musicians or artists as a whole. But there seems to be a lot of wannabes gettin record deals. WTW?
My name is Sarah, and I LOVE this song, it reminds me of a time when I was younger, stronger and knew the power I had in my body and soul ! Life knocks some of the stuffing out of me, but when I listen to this and some of the other early '80s songs I remember many of my dreams that kinda got smashed along the way :(
@sa8rah1 -Sarah my name is Sarita which is Sarah and I'm 40 years old and remember when this song came out girl what ever it is u are going through listen to your mind not your heart and keep reaching ur dreams the fire has not died girl.
it is nice to hear a great artist sing a song that you can understand the words to and sing along. I fell in love with JB's music a long time ago. He still sounds as good now as he did back then..Keep up the good work and don't stop the music. I agree with the other comment the radio stations don't give JB enough props. His music is versatile, it's good for listening to, for bringing up good memories, and for dancing too. Their aren't too many artist that have that capability today
very cool, smooth out song. This was one of the first singles I bought when i was a teenager. played it almost everyday for about 3 years. lol. hope Johnathan Butler is still busy.

@ularpadat Dats whats up. We need some realness in our lives. JB came in at da time in da 80's when all da R&B Heavyweights we're on point with thier skills like MJ, Prince, Luther Vandross, etc., And JB is 1 of da most underrated/slept on R&B artists of all time. While Akon is in a weakest era of R&B music. Da weak era of R&B dat Akon is in it makes the Scat era look like if it's as great as the 70's R&B.
John Butler is from South Africa. I was fortunate to get an original copy of his fist CASSETTE release while stationed at Okinawa Japan in 1987. He has been putting it down, since 84. George Benson is listed as an inspiration to his style of mainsrteam music. You have to hear his original music, to get to know him.
This is a nice R&B/jazz track from this talented guitarist/singer, has a smooth groove, nice musical arrangements, along with melodious, and soulful vocals, quality 80's R&B/jazz music.
A truely gifted South African brother who can produce soulful funk as good as the Americans. Discovered his genius during the 80's always been hooked. A very underrated genius..
I Agree. He is the best African Male R&B singer ever, and Sade is the Best African Female singer ever. The worst african singer ever is Akon. If Akon was to try to battle Jonathon Butler in a Sing-Off Battle, he would get decapitate, destroy, incinerated, out class, out blast, and out thrash this Akon bum in a Sing-Off Battle. Butler would rip the rest of these so called R&B clowns of today. He would run circles around those bozos.
@islandbee Thats what I said. That Akorn Da Child Abuser ain't even in Jonathan Butler's league. And I said that bum Akorn cannot sing or hold a note.
@vinceblake76 Yes. I was just really agreeing with you. But you cannot compare a rotten apple to a fresh orange. A real comparison would be to George Benson or someone of that caliber. Even though GB is not directly from Africa.
@vinceblake76 I wouldn't say that EITHER are the best. Jonathan Butler has a wonderful voice, but there are so many who were incredible: Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Howard Hewitt, Luther Vandross..... the list goes on and on. As for Sade being the best female. PULEEZE! Man, what about Aretha, Angela Winbush, Chaka Khan.....man. Come on. I understand supporting Jonathan because he is good, but give me a break.
@vinceblake76To appreciate an artist doesn't mean talking or looking down on another, the way you've done here; it really doesn't make sense. Most artists and lovers of music do have their preference, they don't make negative judgement on the work of others, they simply show respect and give honour to whom honour is due.Obviously, you prefer Butler to Akon and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but that doesn't mean that Akon is nutcase: the calibre of artists he has worked with says it all
@vinceblake76 The problem is not Akon per say, its that modern R & B, has went to crap. Most of these modern R & B singer can't sing that good and try to infuse much hip-hop and rap into the music. Can Jamie Fox hold a candle to Luther Vandross...no. Can't Usher hold a candle Teddy P., no. They all have limited talent but the sad thing is the stuff still sales and they fill up stadiums with this junk.
@vinceblake76 Woah what about Michael Jackson, Alexander O'Neal, Mic Murphy, Al.b Sure, Babyface, Jermaine Jackson, Bobby Brown, Luther Vandross, and Teddy Pendergrass.
And Sade is good, trust I'm a big fan, but there's others like Chakakn, Pattie Labelle, and Whitney Houston, etc.
@Chillednfunked Interesting that you mentioned that. I have a song from him called 'pata pata' which sounds like it's from a different culture but now that you've indicated he's from Africa that explains it all.
