  • Thanks a lotttt.. It works...save mony and time :)

  • I just spent an hour using an exacto knife on my key, and it has still not opened.

  • I just saved 147Euro, Thank you!

  • can i use energizer battery "not rechargeable" CR2025 or not?

  • I want this video on my G9D+ unit.

  • Dude it works! I have a 2001 BMW 530i and I replaced the battery and re-programmed the key according to your instructions and IT WORKS! You saved me from giving the stealer (dealer) $160.00.

  • Your video is a favorite on Malaysia

  • Thank you for posting this video, you just saved me $200. You are the man!! Totally appreciated.

  • @Maddogdrums You're welcome.

  • wow..!! wat a good info vid..!! i´m gonna try this.!

  • fantastic info, saved myself a whole lot of bother & £, must add that on mine the fault was not the actual battery but the top battery terminal was broken off the circuit board hence breaking the current, so i soldered it back in place, put a new battery in, glued it up & followed the procedure for the reprogramming & hey presto it works a treat, so thank you very much Kopisession for an exellent easy to folllow video

  • so i have to get a bmw key from bmw? with all the electronics? or can i get a standard electronic key adn have it programed like that?

  • @twatsiclle If you are going to get a key at BMW, they will program it for you and that's expensive like what I have said on the description. but if you have a device for programming a key, you can do it yourself. Not all keys have the same circuit board. so i prefer to read or search on the net for some information because I only have limited knowledge about that BMW key circuit board.

  • can i do it if only have one key?

  • can i do it if only have one key?

  • @MrUnknown8989 yes.

  • Saved me $200. This worked perfectly. Make sure you get the correct replacement battery. It's a Panasonic vl2020 3v. And when reconnecting key, make sure to hit lock 3 times quickly.

  • thanks this video realy helped me many thanks!!!!

  • thanks this helped so much on my e46 m3. saved me tons of money!!!

  • you're the best thanks you!!!!!!

  • awesome! this video saved me from a major disaster!

  • can i do this with another key from another car? and program into it?

  • @ginjopowder I'm not sure with that.

  • Cant believe this worked! U saved me $400!!!!

  • Many thanks to your video. By following your step by step instructions my remote now works perfectly. Outlay: $22 for new battery (2 in a packet) instead of $645.00 for a new key which the BMW dealer wanted to charge!

  • what type of battery did you install in the video? I could only see duracell package. The battery in my key is a panasonic VL 2020 3volt rechargeable. Does the battery have to be a recargeable type?

  • @SaVioRxSc0pEz actually any VL2020 3volt battery will do even it's not rechargeable

  • That worked Great! Thanks.

  • hey man i found on ebay a battery rechargable for this, but it is vl2020. I do not if this can fit to my 2000 x5 key. Can u give me a hand with that?

  • Worked like a "Gem" first time. Thank you.

  • i bought the car with the key not working. thort it was the battery and enquired in a few motor stores which all pointed me in the direction of bmw. spent ages searchin through forum which all said the battery cud not be changed. saw this video and the comments below prompted me to try reprogramming. worked 1st time on the 1st method. thanks very much... saved me at least 100 pounds as im sure bmw would have just made me get a new key.

  • @hintman thank you for watching. hope the battery will last long. I still using my battery since the video was created.

  • thnx!!!

  • While this video is very nice, most people who have dead batteries DO NOT need to do this. If you don't use your key for a long time, the battery will die. When you use the key again, the battery will charge but the key has lost its programming and doesn't work. So the person thinks the battery needs to be replaced when all you really need to do is to reprogram it just like the end of the video shows. Saves a lot more time than this video.

  • @bsenright Thanks for sharing but in my own experience, my key battery is rechargeable but it's not working anymore even I use it everyday it cannot recharge anymore. if you ask me why? I'm not sure how the battery died. what I know is even the battery is rechargeable it still have its lifespan. so if you choose to use it over and over again to think that you can recharge it then you'll consume more time than spending $4 on battery and about 10minutes working on that problem.

  • Thanks for the video worked out nice and smooth...saved me 150bucks ;)

  • Assume tutorial. Worked great for me. Hardest part was to cut the key fob apart and to get under the metal tab that is soldered onto the battery. I used a putty knife to get the tab up off the battery so that the needle-nosed pliers could grab it. From there, it was easy to pop off the solder by rolling it like it says in the video. The #1 method worked for my 2001 330xi keys in reprogramming. Thanks so much!!

  • Major props Mr Kopi. This video save me some money. Bought two batteries for 10 Dollars and was able to do it myself. Did not even have to reprogram my keys. They just worked. But i must admit, one key can only open by remote control but cannot close all doors so i still close it manually. WHY?? Let me know it u can. I will give this key to my wife as back up cos she rarely rides my BMW. The other key opens and closes via remote control, and i am a happy man. Thanks bro.

  • CAN ANYONE tell me, If the only buttons that I am pressing, lock/unlock are the buttons that are just on the KEY, or am I using the LOCK/UNLOCK button on the car as well (the lock unlock button on the center counsol

  • what's the name of the song? thank you

  • ty. hey my key had power and it did not want to open my door locks but it did do trunk so I was stuck in car for a while it would not open not even with the normal way in pulling levers to get out I COULDENT GET OUT! but i gues fixed it self in 10min and i was out but can anyone tell me how to avoid that problem and correct way to do it if happens again? Please! thanks!

  • Thank,s a million worked a treat saved me alot of euro,s:):):):):):):)

  • great worked for me just need to replace the catch mec now shoud have done this 6 months ago when battery whent caput cheers .............

  • When I read this I thought the reprogramming part was a joke and would never work. But option 1 definatley did work! Nice one fella, keep up the good work.

  • the mans a fucking genius. didnt expect it to work but did easily. The battery (2025) only cost me 1.99 GBP

    cheers

  • Thanks a lot, great video and most important of all it worked!!!

Was about to fork over $200+ for a new key when found out this tutorial.

To those who like me was confused about "turn to ignition 1", it is a slight turn of the key where the clock and service miles comes up on your display. Ignition 2 would be where all the electronics are turning on, but not the engine. And ignition 3 is the full on engine.

Also my battery in the key was 2020, but I bought 2025 and it worked.

  • 1st method worked for me after trying it a million and 10 times, it's amazing how we don't follow instructions even when it's right in front of us lol.

For those with the older keys (circa 2000) you can look at the red light when you hold down the unlock button, when it starts blinking fast, that's when you hit the lock button 3 times, then hold and release both. Kudos

  • Just reprogrammed with method#1 my key for 2000 BMW 528i. Great advise! THX.

  • WORKS 100%, THANX

  • Hello,

I just bought an 2002 e46 coupe. One key doesn't work. I can start the car with it, but the remote features don't work. How long do i have to drive the car for the key to work again(assuming that the battery is still good)? I've tried driving it for 30 mins.

  • awesome video Kopisession - great music motivates me to DIY :)

  • Does it work for the 2003 bmw 325i?

  • hi, my fob stoped working last week then my lock barrel fell out, leaving no option to lock the car. i tried bmw today and was told there was no way the key could be fixed and only they could do the work costing £140, so when i came across your website and option 1 worked i was thrilled thankyou very much.

  • Instead of using the CR2025 that is not rechargable, how about using a ML2025 that is?

  • Could the charging of the replacment CR2025 lithium non-rechargable battery by the BMW ignition cause it to explode?

  • BMW quoted me £130 for a new key on Thu 4th November 2010. I just changed the battery in the key and it cost me £1.65. The reprogramming of the key worked perfectly as well. Thanks a million, works perfect.

  • dude thanks so much.. i tried over and over i thought my battery is dead.. but when i saw ur video i tried 3rd step once and walahhhhhh doors open and close now.

but 1 thing i cant open and close from far. and driver door doesnt open but it closes if its open.. can u help>

  • this is a good video, it worked on the first try. thanks

  • Wow thanks a bunch, worked very well on my wife's '04 325 ci. I was also able to save the band around the old battery. I didn't have to reprogram it, the new battery remote worked and started the car and the other remote worked too. Just a little advice to those doing this, be VERY careful when opening the remote with a utility knife, just go slow and go over the same spot numerous times without letting the knife go to deep. Good luck

  • THank you! IT WORKED

  • major props! this video is awesome, saved me some real cash! thanks a lot!

  • @jamescreameriii Thanks! hope everything works well. I still have mine working.

  • Yes, excellent guide. If you have both remote keys, under 2nd programming option - after programming the first key, you need to hold the unlock and press the lock 3 times. Do not put it into ignition and turn into position 1.

The original battery in my key was 2020, which is not available anymore, the direct replacement is the 2016. Also thicker 2025 fits in fine.

  • did he cut the key my bmw 325ci 3 seres is not working and dont know if it recharges if eanyone knows please tell me

  • did everyting in d video perfect and tryed the programming methods but key stil wont work....any ideas?? thanks

  • Hi, Thank you so much for this useful video. Need some more advice. While cutting the cover, i damaged the board as one of the tiny part on the board came off. What should I do......

  • I opened my key put a new battery but i cant get it to program right the doors open and the car starts but the remote is like a rock no matter how many time i tried to program it, it wont work.

    please help

  • I have a 2003 bmw 330ci, they guy at dealer said its a resistor inside the key and not a bettery, I'm not sure, is it right? And good song whats the name of the song plz?

  • Why to go. I followed the instructions for a 325 xi 2001 and it worked flawlessly.thanks for a great video. I did 2 keys and saved big time. Bic

  • Hello, I am trying to program a single key after I replaced my key battery. I am going to try your third option. When I insert the key and switch to position 1 (step 2) do I have to remove and re-insert the key 5 times as well or just switch it from position 0 to 1 five times then remove? I assume all doors have to remain open during the procedure?

  • wow thanks a lot i was about to go to the dealer to have the battery replaced cuz i didn't know you have to cut the outside thing.

  • I did not have to replace the battery in my 2005 BMW X5 key, since the battery in this model recharges while in use. Your first option for reprogramming worked great! Thank you ! ! ! I need to get another key. I'm thinking that I should go to a dealer and buy a spare key without the electronics. Then send the spare key to a supplier on ebay who can make a new key that includes the transmitter electronics. Then program it using your option 2 in this video. Do you think this would work?

  • @deananywhere I'm not sure if the BMW dealer sells a key without electronics inside.

  • @deananywhere dealer does not sell the shell by itself they order the whole thing, it comes cut and the chip that makes the car start is programmed as well, the only thing that you need to do or they will do it for you as a courtesy is to program the remote on the key, if you buy the key on ebay it will be cheap, but

  • @deananywhere you still need to take the key to a locksmith to cut the key, and you will need to program the remote yourself but..... the chip on the key will not work on yor car, meaning that it wont let you start the car. im a locksmith and i try to do it for my bmw and didn't work so i recommend to order the key to the dealer.

  • @deananywhere like any rechargeble battery ,the battery from new bmw that are rechargeble die,so you have to replace them once in a while.

  • Great video. You saved me a lot of money. Thanks.

  • I don't understand the part about holding the unlock and lock buttons at same time?

I have one door lock/unlock button in the center console located next to the hazard....is there another unlock/lock button I don't know about? I just bought the 99 bmw 323i sedan last week.

I don't have any buttons on the door except for the mirror control.

  • @gmoty2 you need to press and hold the UNLOCK key while waiting for few seconds and just hold it then while holding the Unclock key, tap/press the LOCK key 3 times then you may release the UNLOCK key. the door of your BMW will lock and unlock by itself. IF that happens it means you made the procedure correct.

  • @gmoty2 this is referring to the controls on the FOB remote key

  • I tried all reprograms you descrived in video and locks and unlocks but it wont start my car now, any advise?

  • @donbandolero programming the key is not related to your problem. check first your spark plugs it might need a replacement or the battery of your car needs to be change or your starter solenoid got a problem. try jumpstarting you car first and if it starts to run then the battery is the problem. if you dont hear a clicking sound on the hood while igniting the key, it means there's a problem with the starter.

  • hi kopisession where did you find the cost about $120, thanks!!

  • @songohan002 i found that site in google search results. I don't know the specific website.

  • You don't need to solder the (+)( -) just place the battery in there and put a thin layer of something on top and when the cover goes the battery doesn't move

did it 2 mins ago works fine

    thanks

  • @munib1000 yep that's why I did put the "optional" I know somebody who did solder the (+) and (-) and he used a Coin Cell Battery with Leads 3V 20mAH 2 PIN HORZ/VERT with some modification. But in my case, in this video I didn't solder it.

  • Fantastic Tutorial..... Thanks!

  • @GSSDaveCanada you're welcome.
