Very informative video. The fitter really explained what you should feel, I got my shoes wrong for so many years. Needed to watch this 10 years ago! ;)
@Amy28904 just make sure you get a pair that fit. If you need to get more comfortable wear them around the house. No pointe work just walk around in them ;)
Hi im going on en pointe at the end of the year and i was wondering when you go to get your pointe shoes fitted do you have to go on pointe?? ( on your toes ) xxxx
I read in the comments that robbie went off pointe for 6 mos. I got taken off pointe too.I just have not been put back on yet! I just wanted to comment because of the similarities. She very talented!
@balletchic11 ya when we switched studios she did not just show up with her pointe shoes on she waited for that teacher to put her on and even after that she only had about 20 minutes a week for a while. It's okay to take it slow. Many things to work on in flats! ;)
Hey you guys PLEASE checkout my channel: Rayraymharper I only have one video so far but I promise I'll upload more videos. I dance on my channel I'll start filming my ballet/pointe and more tap! Maybe even some of my own choreography. Thanks! :)
@MrStella1919 I think they did about 20 minutes a week for the first 6 mos and then robbie actually went off and back on about 6 mos later. It wasn't hard core but she easily could have waited another year.
Today I just got fitted for my first pair of pointe shoes (YAY!) and was wondering on any tips to break them in. And do you know how long they typically hurt because mine are really hurting me. I got Academie Mirella Pointe Shoes. Thanks so much and I love your videos so much. You are such an amazing dancer!
@Forevertitanicfan No they really shouldn't just hurt- I mean they aren't comfortable I guess but if they hurt you might want to keep trying diff shoes. Do you wear toe pads?
@Forevertitanicfan ok you need to find a show that fits with your toe pads - so you need a wider box or something, not sure. Do you try your shoes on with toe pads? Use the thin ones called skinny dips.
@Bethhlouisthedancer its the same thing with my teacher!! But most of my class started younger (I started at two) so we waited until we were 13 and finished grade 7 to go en pointe. I take it that you did intermediate foundation afterwards? I need to ask because I heard somewhere that you have to do grade 6
i like this how was it wen u got your first pair of point shoes i watch your videos all the time like they are so interesting i reall y like it u make me wanna get out of the chair and do wt u do u know i do ballet to i love it just as mucch as u love it it is so intersting im not on point yet but the class im goig to is a2 ballet class i mite be starting point their i ben doin ballet for a long time bye and thank you for your great videos
Too Young! In England You Have To Be 12/13 years of age and passed grade 5 =) (With The Royal acadamy of dance) ... but when i took grade my grade 3 i got them and i was nearly 12, but strong feet for my age. Also, your feet have to of stopped growing before you go on pointe otherwise you damage your feet :S
@Bethhlouisethedancer As far as I know, there are no requirements for pointe in RAD Graded exams, as there is no pointe work, only in the Vocational exams?
My first fitting took 2 hours.I am a 7.5-8 in pointe shoes and my feet are super duper wide and my feet are really flexible so i like soft shoes. it took a reaaally long time and tons of shoes to find the right one for me. I wear the bloch balance european((: i've been on pointe for 4 months.
@mydancetv Oh thx :D well, Yesterday i just got them fitted and it took like an hour but for me it was like 20 min ^.^ i kinda liked fitting pointe shoes
i dont know about you guys, but when i get my first pair of pointe shoes you best believe im making those poor fitters measure every inch of my foot and explain to me everything they are doing. pointe shoes r serious athletic equipment and they are really pricey. no way am i keeping the first or even fifth pair they have me try!
@Diehardwickedfan There's nothing wrong with making sure you get the best shoes possible for your feet, but be aware that sometimes the first pair you try on ARE the best ones :) Or the second, or the third...
@xAndreaBananna Yes they are actually really good and less prone to injury than super archy feet but not as insane looking - can't have your cake and eat it too I guess. =)
@mydancetv Yes, I totally agree. You don't necessarily need a high arch you can continuously stretch them and strengthen them and they will be beautiful(=
@tweetjelover They are progressing nicely. They are at diff studios now but Robbie is working on her technique and on pulling up. She only does about 20 minutes a week right now.
hehe i remember getting my first pair when i was bout 10 i was so excited ..though i had really small feet then and the store wasnt sure they even had my size...my first pairs were freed of londons =] btw congrats on going on pointe!
It varies a lot depending on what kind you're getting....good ones start at around $50 but other pairs can be well over $100....expect to pay about $75. That's how much mine were :)
i have bloch i want to try russian pointe. iv had my bloch pointes for about one and a hald yeara now and i thibk theyre finally dying. any suggeations for good pointes??? im 12 and i started pointe last year.

im 13 and im getting my pointe shoes this weekend:) i know my old ballet school put all their girls on pointe at age 10, no matter what. so i changed schools beacause that really isnt safe to be on pointe if your ankles arent strong enough. thoughts?
they seem too young to get Pointe shoes their feet cant be done growing you will spend so much money on shoes in the years to come. they cant have enough ankle strength if they have only been dancing for 4/5 years i have been dancing for 10 years and am just now being evaluated.
If everyone went on pointe when their feet stopped growing, some people (like me) wouldn't be on pointe until they were around 16. Most dancers begin pointe before they're feet are done growing, it's pretty normal.
hey im getting my 1st pointe shoes on the 23 oct im wondering do i have to wear my leotard and tights to go get them or just my tights plz answer ty :)

it's fine. you just have to wear tights so that you know how they feel with them on so you know that you like them completely. just so you don't go to the class, put them on, and say " Oh crap."
really though you're fine. but don't go up in them at all without pads. my friend was on for years, then went for one class without them. they started hurting so bad that she went to a doc and she had three broken toes.
