  • Uliana is great and I saw this variation with different ballerinas, but to be honest I must say that Zakharova's variation is the best one, cause her expression, perfect technique and gracefulness.

  • Totally different from Guillem's interpretation. Uliana subtle & delicate, Sylvie obvious & exhibitionistic. I dislike Sylvie's forceful hand claps. In total, prefer Uliana.

  • @nailbroth The Paris Opera version of this variation his supposed to be strong, exotic and powerful. Nureyev wanted the hand clap to be strong, he wanted to show the change of character of Raymonda. The young girl becoming a woman.

  • Guillem's is a daring firework of zest. Uliana's is clever and full of mystique. Both interpretations are genius.

  • @IssaKivilaakso this kind of talk is just plain silly, because ballet is, and always was, about interpretation. You are not obliged to like something, but you should be grateful that you live in an age where so much is available.

  • At first I didn't really like her interpretation of this variation, but I've seen the vid on youtube "Uliana Lopatkina Lesson---Raymonda" where she explains the movements and emotions behind it and she completely hits the nail! Truly a recommended watch.

  • Fortunately in America we have bigger ballet studios where we can jump and work with the space. As a result the body becomes stronger and powerful. I hate to go to small studios in Europe. That's really a problem for ballet.Not all in America is bad ;D

  • Lol Actually In russia They dont clap Because its Considered Rude In the Nureyev Version they clap also in america but not in russia see over videos of russian ballerinas as for artistry u cant get better then her and well power whats there to be powerful about her she is getting married this is a dance to acknowledge the presence of the court one can tell from other gestures she is not dancing to show she is the head bitch

  • I agree! Sylvie was full of hauteur; she really held those positions and worked those bourees for all they were worth. This ballerina is fine, but she seems content to just be "pretty". Always fascinating to see different interpretations.

  • raymonda est un personnage typiquement humain...est une femme. et comme vraie femme sylvie l'interprète. elle est sublime. uliana est belle mais elle est comme...vide. sylvie est raymonda, celle vraie

  • L'interprétation de Lopatkina est un peu fade certes, mais chez Guillem il n'y a pas d'interprétation du tout. Il n'y a que de l'exaggération, des mouvements toujours trop précipités, des poses trop cambrées. Elle est visiblement frustrée qu'il n'ait pas la possibilité de développer sa jambe jusqu'à l'oreille comme d'habitude. Donc elle dévisage le public de la même manière stupidement défiante et égoiste. Bref, elle récite un rôle dans une langue qu'elle ne comprend pas.

  • Vous aviez de raison. Je sius de meme opinion-Uliana Lopatkine just repete mouvement abituelle de Soviet ballet interpretation, sans acune pensee et logique. Silvie donne boecoup plus de Raymonda.

  • i still think that sylvie guillem is a better dancer than uliana-she has no drama in this dance. it almost seems as if sylvie guillem is more alive, not flimsy as=nd delicate. well she is flimsy and delicate, but she just seems to have a stronger and firmer move than anyone else. on the whole i thought it was ok.

  • I am a great fan of Sylvie Guillem. I think her beauty, feet & legs are divine. I do not think it is right to compare one artist to another. They are just not the same. I heard Carla Fracci say one time when asked who was better, Erik Bruhn or Rudolf Nureyev.

    Her answer, "They are both different". They each brought something different with them. It is not right comparing one dancer to another.

  • Lopatkina est légère et douce, mais elle ne raconte rien, c'est très joli mais c'est presque muet. Elle se répète, elle ne va nulle part. L'interprétation de Guillem est infiniment supérieure parce qu'elle est formellement parfaite et que la perfection formelle passe au second plan derrière la poésie. Guillem nous montre quelque chose : une femme en train de séduire. Lopatkina ne nous montre rien d'autre qu'elle même en train de danser.

  • Guillem, elle interprète le rôle, toutes ses qualités techniques, sa perfection formelle, sont investies dans l'incarnation d'un personnage, l'expression d'une réalité humaine. Et elle n'est absolument pas symboliste. Il n'y a aucun reste, elle est toute entière à sa danse de séduction. En comparaison, Lopatkina, elle, verserait dans un symbolisme mais dont on aurait perdu la clé.

  • J'aime beaucoup cela dans la danse de Guillem, elle ressucite des significations oubliées. Elle fait remonter la sève dans une danse qui tend parfois à se déssecher en exercice plus ou moins réussis de pose et de joliesses. Guillem est profondément artiste, bien plus que les autres.

  • De l'Art. Impossible de comparer avec Sylvie Guillem, qui n'a ni le même style, ni la même approche. Personnellement, c'est à Lopatkina que j'attribuerais l'adjectif "divine"...
