  • Long live Roberta Williams for creating the greatest computer game ever!

  • Can you imagine sailing for 3 months because your saw a constellation in a magic mirror?

    BALLSY, Alexander. Very ballsy.

  • PEOPLE: BUY King's Quest 1-8 on GOG.COM It works with modern computers.

  • I need to play this again

  • @LurkingInShadowsBlog buy the KQ collection from Gog.com It works with modern PCs.

  • When I was REALLY little my dad used to help me and my brother play this. To this day I still love it, and the memories it brings, ^_^, even though the graphic are horrid, lol.

I want to make video games when I get older, and I want to make a remake of this!

  • King's Quest IV may be my favorite of the series, but KQ6 will always be objectively the best.

  • This was the first computer game I ever had. I think I was 4 at the time.

  • so much awesomeness ;_; [happy nostalgic tears]

  • Imagine convincing someone that you just saw a figure in the mirror and then had to go on a journey to find them on a mystical island. I'm sure that would go over well and would sound reasonable.

    Good game though

  • In the time when the cut scenes had better graphics than the game itself...

  • For puzzle/adventure games(a dying genre), this along with MYST is as good as it gets imho. This is my favorite though.

  • I have been in love with Alexander since I was little. This intro makes me all nostalgic and swoony!

  • Just FYI, this is the version that plays under Windows. If you play it under DOS, you get a different version that's basically the same, but not as quick with the transitions and has titles instead of the narration. The diskette version had yet another version with less motion and different voice actors. Also, I found that if you play the Windows version in 16-color mode, you get text describing what happens instead of the animation.

So that's four different versions I know of.

  • Love this game, i remember it came out for the very first time and i was really amazed with the graphics, sound, etc. The characters, storyline, plot music was all incredible. Best adventure/ game , series ever in my mind.

  • I played all Resident Evils, Silent hill, and other recent horror games, Yet that freakin Genie, the Minotaur, and Mordack still scares the crap outta me.

  • Holy shit. Alexander is the Beast from "Beauty and the Beast" when he becomes human.

  • @seamoretwillnant

    It's the same voice-actor.

  • @ozmodiar88 Obviously. It's Robby Benson.

  • I still don't know how he survived the crash but if you even go waist deep in water in the game you'll die.

  • @hk86 The same way he dies from a fall from less than 10 feet high.

The hero is invulnerable to harm until coming under control of the player. XD

  • lol, Alexander is like 40 yrs old by now.

  • @fishwizard7 Probably older than that even, considering he already had gray hair and was retiring in KQ4.

  • The sound that is played when the princess appears in the mirror sounds like the sound in phantasmagoria

  • The sailing scene always reminds me of taking a sailing trip with a group off the coast of Maine and seeing the many small islands.

  • Man do I ever remember this! I can even remember watching it for the very first time and being utterly AMAZED at how cutting edge it was!!! Nothing Gold can stay tho as a poet once said. So true.... ='-(

  • This game is old as I am which was 18 years ago.

  • love the opening music

  • What a great game. I could never beat it, i was only 10 at the time, but now its on! even the soundtrack is great, i like the shopkeep too

  • @danethomas - Oh man, you never beat it? You never felt the joy of having your OWN GENIE!??

  • Damn, I really need to playthrough this again one day. One of the best adventure games ever.

  • Sorry! I missed Alex sister's name. It's Rosella and not Rasolla. Sometimes my fingers are disrupted...

  • Graham is still alive. He appears at the end of the game with Valenice and Rasolla at Alex and Cassima's wedding ceremony. I think you playd the short version of the game. That's why you didn't see him...

  • If you do not kill Abdul Alhazred's genie, then Alexander's family will appear at the end of the game.

  • What happened to Graham? I suppose he died between V and VI but they dont metion it at all here? Why?

  • Nope

  • He never died

  • Cassima: alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander alexander

  • I've seen it run on DOSBOX and it works on vista. however you dont get the intro or any cool enhanced features, however it probably was the Disk not the CD version.

  • "the mirror? the MAGIC mirror?"

"no, mom. the bathroom mirror. YES the magic mirror."

  • @caamaster LOL

  • @caamaster that'd be fun XD

  • land ho! how rude...

  • Considering the bad experience Alexander had with pirates last time it's funny he has a crew of them now. Or maybe he's just keeping his enemies close.

It is really impressive what they did with this game. Sierra was my favorite game maker back then I think ^^

  • mother! MOTHER! come quick!

for the love of god i know! i was only standing ten feet away.

  • which mirror? THE MAGIC MIRROR?????

  • Or save yourself some time and use DOSbox, so you can play this on your machine.

  • The emulation for this particular game in DOSbox is quite good. Can't quite say the same for Warcraft, but it's workable for sure.

  • I LOVED this game. I still have it. I think I'll play it now.

  • I have this game and still play it, if there is some way for me to get a copy of it to you, your more than welcome to have it :)

  • Hey, is there any way you could hook me up too?

  • whoa whoa whoa... whoa

    3D graphics in 1992? That's simply impossible!

Well, maybe not, but in 1992... Come on, people. This had to be about as hardcore an eye candy as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. today or something.

    Amazing...

  • @ShadiacThylacine Who said it's *realtime* 3D. I'm pretty sure it's all prerendered and encoded as video.

  • Before I got the internet I played this game OVER AND OVER!!!

  • I used to love playing this game over & over.

Awesume intro and brings back great memories.

    Kings Quest rocks!!!

  • It's hard to believe that this game (without the dialogue) fit onto 9 floppy disks. Good memories :)

  • I remember when I finished the game!!! great vid!

  • I've always loved the music that's played when Cassima's in the tower.

I still have the CD of this game, though it's collected dust over the years since I can't download it to my PC :(

  • Some of the packaging for the game contained an audio CD featuring a song called "Girl in the Tower", which was written and recorded for the game. There was also a pamphlet encouraging players to call a variety of radio stations and urge them to play the single; this campaign was unsuccessful, as many radio stations threatened to sue Sierra. At least one CD version of the game includes this track on the game CD (rather than as a separate CD single) and plays it accompanying the closing credits.

  • thanks for that info!

It's not such a bad thing, except for the fact that the song was kinda bad ;)

  • I have that CD version with the added audio track. I didn't realize it was that rare. Now i feel special.

  • I remember this so clearly I was mouthing the words as I watched it. This is the updated version of the intro, right? We used to have the older one. : )

    Thanks for the memories!

  • I get chills when the "King's Quest VI" logo comes flying at the screen! Man, I wish there was some way I could play this game again. They don't make games like they used to. These games had a certain quality or life to them! *Sigh* Takes me back to my childhood when things were so much simpler than.

  • best game ever made

  • Kings quests are great

  • Cool game, one of my top 3 King's Quest games, I think. Graphics are beautiful, as is the music. And yes, what would be done without that magic mirror? We would only have 1/3 of an adventure.

  • Thanks for uploading this! I remember seeing it for the first time when I was just 6 years old and being AWESTRUCK!

  • That magic mirror sure does start a lot of trouble throughout the entire series. Don't you think?

  • I also have a midi file with all the music of KQ6 all-in-one. It is FUCKING awesome. I love that music! It is so beautiful and it reminds me of when I was 3 and I was wondering what was that game my dad was playing :P

  • Hey, I don't have this intro...! And When I play, there aren't voices, only text. I had it in French but lost it somewhere...

  • A version of the game was later released for Windows with vocal dialogue added to all the characters and the narrator, as well as talking portraits during interactions.

  • Actually I had an intro, but not exactly the same.

  • One of the best games ever made. I remember when I had to delete everything but DOS to install it, and it was damn worth it. :)

The best of the entire series.

  • Does anyone play this game on DOSBOX? For some reason the intro video doesn't work for me but the rest of the cut scenes do...weird.

  • BEST GAME EVER. so nostalgic over this music and video... =[

  • screw nostalgia, you can still play it!!!

  • I know, i beat it pretty recently a few months ago, but every time I watch the video I want to go back when Sierra was still making all these amazing games. Now the best we get is Halo and GTA, just the same shoot em up crap over and over with no logic and difficulty.

  • Yup, agreed. Check out the Wiki of Roberta Williams, there's a great quote of her ripping on the intelligence of today's games.

  • the wiki of what she said seemed a bit harsh. I understand her concern of mindless people who watch television who play today's games and enjoy them, but she really insulted the middle class too (calling them the average people). It's as if she only wants upper class people that can afford the best kind of computers to play her games, which I don't agree on. The majority of people should play her game, and eventually they will learn how to play with more logic if games are challenging enough,IMO

  • Does Anybody know where i Can Get The CD Version of this game

  • You can find it on EBay. I don't know if it's still manufactured. Try looking on Sierra Online.

  • This was the first adventure game I ever played.

  • Was my first PC game!!! :)

  • My absolute favorite adventure game. Period.

  • The intro doesnt work properly on mine either. It looks pretty cool.

  • Very nice

  • one of the best games ever

  • This is great! Thanks SO much! The intro never worked on my computer. It either wouldn't run or was skippy. It's so nice to see it at its best. <3
