@Baritone45 Let us bring a different comparable musician into this, who can be compared to both Maynard Ferguson and Tine Ting Helseth. Wynton Marsalis. He plays in the same styles as both MF and TTH. Yet he plays this much better than TTH, to the point where his rendition is widely accepted as the standard. However, just because MF didn't choose to play often in this style doesn't mean that he is unable to. In fact the three classical performances he did are reviewed to have been amazing.

as a jazz trumpet player, can i ask if it matters if she can play jazz? It's really funny classical players always feel like they need to be able to play jazz to be a complete player (not just style but actual improvisatory mastery) and I just dont understand why? Thats like a painter trying to master sculpture as well. Just do your thing, you know?

Granted, he would be remembered for any one of those three things, but to have mastered them all, it makes him a genius.
